| Fitness | how can I get exercise with a knee injury? | Jan 30 2008 18:42 (UTC) |

Yikes, I feel your pain! I did my ACL snowboarding a few years back. In addition to the leg exercise(s) you should get from your physiotherapist I would recommend getting a dip bar. Just work out your upper body while your lower is recouping. That and juggling. lol Although, I found retrieving the balls once dropped exceedingly painful. Sending you strong get well soon vibes!

| Fitness | Workout routine -- too much? | Jan 29 2008 16:02 (UTC) |

I'd make sure you give your body at least 2 rest days per week. This doesn't mean don't do anything. You could still do a long walk or some other low impact activity, cycling and swimming come to mind. If you're going to go ahead and work out 7 days a week, I'd stagger your workouts, something like upper body monday, lower body tuesday and swim on wednesday. Or something similar that works with your schedule. But if you do go for the 7 day routine I'd HIGHLY recommend taking 3 or 4 consecutive days off (or low impact activity such as walking / swimming) every couple of weeks to let your body recover. Hope this helps! rawgh |

A finger of scotch to get the evening rolling and glass of wine or two. Nice buzz, no hang over. Plus, if you keep yourself hydrated and spread the drinks out over a couple of hours, fewer dents in the car. R. |

I suppose if you absolutely HAD to argue it shouldn't be a requirement, you could argue that PE can, and / or should occur outside of school hours as it isn't one of the 3 R's. One could argue that PE is a waste of tax waste of tax dollars et cetera. However, you then open yourself up to the "saving health care dollars" arguement. Tough assignment. I suppose on principal, you could just concede the resolution. lol Hope this helps. R. P.S. How on earth writing and arithmetic earned their "R's" is beyond me. |

Hi Kay: This is a fairly popular topic on the site. I tried to post a link for you but it didn't work for me. I'd suggest looking around the forums and I think you'll find the info you're looking for . . . I just can't seem to find it at the moment . . . I'll look again. lol OK, sorry about that. In the Forums, under weight loss, page two, tittled "I feel like crying". Dealing with plateau's . . . Hope this helps. R. |

I'd personally take rockamortis's advise. Late afternoon snack, push dinner back to 7 - 7:30 then tuck yourself into bed for 10pm. You get plenty of rest and you can't eat while you're sleeping! (Well, you can try but it can be really really messy!) R. |

You might try indoor rock climbing. Total body workout, burns a ton of calories and it shakes up your routine. My personal favorite! (I have less than perfect knees too.) R. |

| Hey thanks todd I'll look into it. Just incase anyone is keeping score I did it again! lol Same place on the way home. : ) No black ice this time, this time it was corn snow. The front wheel went sideways both feet flew out of the clips sending me and the bike sliding (gracefully) in separate directions. All I have to say is damn spandex is slippery stuff! lol Oh, and I got my wish . . . there were 3 people there to see it happen. lol : )

| Drinking problem. lol I love it! (nicely put there leinad) Well done braving the cool weather there jc! It's really not so bad if you dress right. The first days commute was fantastic, no rain and the sun even came out for my ride home! Sublime. This mornings commute however was filled with ups and downs . . . on the upside I saw a beautiful pair of Cardinals flitting between the trees beside me as I rode through the Don Valley trail . . . on the downside . . . ME. lol Black ice just sucks! lol I would liken my experience to that of a whitewater paddler executing a "Windowshade" (Windowshade - A lightning quick involuntary upstream roll, usually into rocks or shallows) it was over before I knew what was happening. Quite comical really! lol One minute I'm upright and having fun, the next I'm lying on my side completely horizontal one foot still in the "clamps". lol My only regret: None of you were there to share the moment. (Laugh at/with me.) : ) Keep on spinnin' lads - rawgh
P.S. I hope you're feeling better tj! |

| Hey behanna & jc, thanks for the tips / info. I'll definitely be looking into making a purchase for next season so again, I thank you both.
Man leinad, that's some brutal headwind! Guess you'll be eating well for a day or two! As for the weather . . . tomorrow they're (whoever "they" are) calling for 15 C now (that's shorts weather in my book!) and then 3 days of 9 C!!!! I'm going to enjoy the first commute of the season even if I have to ride in the rain. Which if I understand correctly, I will. lol Oh well! Ride on ride on! rawgh - the happy canadian : ) |

| Happy Spring all! Just for fun the weather decided to play a sick joke on us Torontonians today . . . it's -10 C outside. Oh happy day! lol On the up side, it's supposed to be around 18 C by thursday. I can't wait to get outside. I finished up my first week (100 miles) today and I've come to the conclusion that stationary bikes make lousy friends. : P
