Weight Loss Thinking of going off white flour products and sugar Jul 09 2009
20:39 (UTC)

Thanks to everyone for all of the great advice and tips!  I will definitely use these over and over.  I am really enjoying eating this way, surprisingly.  It's helping me eat way less and not justify that one or two or 10 cookies or bar of chocolate because it has sugar in it, and I don't eat that stuff anymore.  Before, I'd say that 200 calories won't matter or that I'd run it off or something, but it just doesn't work, because I'd keep eating and be even worse off and have to "start over" again.  I'm going to give myself some leeway here and there, but I'll always be able to jump back on.

I've also had less headaches!  YAY!

Thanks again.

Yes, I was talking about white flour products, not plain white flour.  And I don't really plan on being neurotic about it.  For example, some salad dressings have sugar, and I probably would still have those.  Peanut butter too.  Sometimes a little bit of protein on an apple will get me through the hunger pangs.  I'm talking just kind of a bread and sweets thing, and probably also white rice and potatoes.

Thanks for any advice and tips.

We have this program, although I'm not following it by the book at the moment.  But when I was, I looked through the materials and found somewhere where it said that the workouts burn 600 calories each.  I wouldn't be surprised, because in every single one of them, I'm huffin' and puffin' and sweating like crazy, and I don't sweat much.  Of course it would depend on your current size, etc., but that's a good start.  You could try it for awhile and see if you're getting the results you want with that amount of calories.

Bring it!

I ALWAYS use the individual ingredients of an item, if I know what it is.  Otherwise, I will look it up.  That almost always only applies to food from restaurants.  Everything else I eat can be figured out from the nutrition label.  Good job on the weight loss!

Thank you all!  Yes, elfkittie, I do have an Aldi, and have found some great things there, but it's kind of far away, and sometimes I just don't have the time and end up going to an all-inclusive place like Wal-Mart because I have kids with me, etc., and I can't always get everything I need at Aldi.  I just need to make it a point to go there every week w/o kids to get the "good" stuff.

Thanks again!

Not that I know of.  What's a name of one of them?  Maybe there is and I just don't realize it.  hmmmm

If you mean like Sam's or Costco, then yes, but I'm not a member of those places because we don't have the room to put all the bulk supplies, so it's just not worth it.

Thanks spoiled_candy!  The kids are fine and growing like weeds.  You're right about eating healthy being expensive.  I find that using the slow cooker is hard to calculate calories because there's so many different things in it, and unless you measure each thing you put in.....there's really no way to know the calories.  Unless you get one of those frozen thingys, which is more expensive anyway.  I love slow cookers, though.  Maybe I'll start doing some chicken in there, that might be good.  Anyway, if it were just me, I'd probably make the same 2-3 things every night so that I could keep it simple and low-cal, but it's just hard with 6 people.  Thanks for the encouragement.

That's absolutely not fair!  It IS incentive to exercise more, though.  I must admit that many times I've gone running just so I could have a bowl of ice cream without it being detrimental to my backside.

Sorry I didn't post my weight Saturday.  I've been really pissed off, so I went on scale strike.  I'm trying a new angle this week, and will post my weight this Saturday.

I haven't looked the product up or anything, and it looks interesting, but my concern is that you're only eating 1350 calories a day, but working out for an hour.  That just doesn't seem like enough food.  I'd be hungry too!

I'm sorry you're in so much pain.  I know exactly how you feel.  I had horrible pain with two of my pregnancies, and even got pancreatitis, which is when a gallstone gets stuck in your pancreas.  Trust me, you don't even want to go there.  I was jaundiced, which meant I itched all over, and it also hurt to breathe.  It sounds like you have gallstones and you'll be better off to get it out.  I had mine out and haven't had any problems since with pain or eating or gaining weight, other than of my own doing.  The surgery is simple and recovery is pretty uneventful too.

Good luck,
Becky

waterwalker, please don't beat yourself up about your week.  I know it's hard starting over and starting over, but at least you're not giving up completely!  Just see it as a lifestyle change and not a diet, and it will help with the big picture.  This has helped me tremendously.  I used to "mess up" and just throw in the towel for the week or the month and then be worse off than when I started.  With the "lifestyle" mentality, you just pick yourself back up at the very next meal and continue like you were with your healthy lifestyle.  You can do it!

I'm sorry I didn't weigh in Saturday.  To be honest, I was just too discouraged to do it.  But then I looked here, and realized that I'm down from last week, even though it's still up from the lowest point.  So, I guess that's a victory.

My weight this week is 191.3

Hey guys, I try to check in too, but don't always post.  I'll try to do better.  I've had a pretty good week, but yesterday I kind of threw some things to the wind and just mindlessly ate.  Sometimes I have to do that, though, or I just lose it for months at a time and gain.  I didn't go way overboard, but I'm sure I went over.  I think it's TOM coming up, because I can't get enough chocolate.  I should know whether it is time, but since we're done with kids, I don't keep track.

Anyway, I'm trying to be exact today so that I at least have a loss tomorrow.

Good luck everybody!

ok, I'll be first.  I'm up 1.2 lbs to 192.1.  This is less than I thought, because I just got off a 3-day food party with no exercise.  We had people visiting, and there was pizza and brownies, and then we went to an amazing Italian place last night where I had baked ziti with sausage.  So, I'm thinking only 1.2 lbs is a victory.  This week will be much better, you have my word!

Good luck to everyone else!

Hey guys, sorry I haven't posted in several days. It's been crazy at my house....I have 4 young children.....anyway, I think I might need a new scale.  I was so frustrated this morning, I usually step on it 2-3 times just to make sure the reading is correct (it's digital), and today each time was different, like WAY different.  It's so frustrating too, because one day last week I was down about 3 lbs from where I am now, so I'm wondering if the low weight was a fluke.....but I stepped on it 3 times that day too and it stayed that same low weight.  I don't know.....I hate scales!!! But it's the only thing that keeps me accountable for what I eat, so I can't throw it out.

~snowfence~ Congratulations on meeting your goal!!!  That's so awesome.  You are an encouragement to us all.  I needed to hear that statement about bingeing and that it is always there and that this is a lifestyle.  We don't have to give up just because we screw up one day.  In the big picture, it's not a big deal.  As the guy in my exercise video says, "Do your best, and forget the rest!"  That's my mantra.....

Peace,
Becky

I had a big loss last week, so at least I'm still down a few pounds, so YAY!

Hey guys, just bumping this up for today.  Hope everyone's doing well.  I had a pretty good day yesterday, went out for breakfast and didn't eat all that healthy, but went right back on track for the rest of the day.  I usually will just write off the rest of the day if I get off track, so that's progress!

Hope everyone has a great day!

~celestial~ I'm so sorry about your mother-in-law.  I'm glad you were able to be there, though.  What's your husband's band's name?  My husband is also in a band, a rock band though, and not heavy metal.

~talkdoc~ that is SUCH a great idea, so here's mine:age:  36height:  5'5"start weight:  highest a little over a year ago when I started CC - 212
current:  191
goal weight:  130

background:  I have 4 kids and still find time to eat......a lot!  I love food, especially chocolate, and it's impossible for me to just "watch what I eat" and lose weight, because I usually end up "watching" it end up on my hips.

CC has been invaluable to me, as I initially lost 30 lbs last year on it, and then got a little burned out on calories and maintained awhile, and then gained 8-10 over Thanksgiving/Christmas.I'm working out with P90X at the moment, and I also run sometimes.

Ok, I guess my 3.7 loss was a fluke, because for the past 2 mornings, I've been up .4 from that and both days I have been on plan.  Which is fine, because it's still a 3.3 loss.  Hopefully I'll be back down there and lower by Saturday!

Have a good week everyone!

~Iam7~  - does that mean your deficit is 1050 or you're only eating 1050 cals?  I would encourage you to eat more.  I know it's exciting to lose 7 lbs in one week, but it's not really all that healthy to continue to do that.  Just my two cents.

Congrats to everyone!

~bluewater~ losing 4 lbs one week and then 1/2 lb the next is TOTALLY normal too.  When I have a big loss like that, I can pretty much bet on losing an incremental amount, or none at all.  It's just our body's way of staying in homeostasis - or maintaining a constant state.

I guess I'm first to weigh in.  It's unbelievable, but I'm at 190.9 today, which is like a loss of 3 lbs!  It's TOM for me, so I think when I first weight on Monday, it was because of that, so this is probably normal for me, but still!  I'm taking it.  I've been very good this week, working out and journaling everything!YAY!

Hi guys,So far so good for me this week.  The scale is inching down, but I won't post anything official until Saturday morning.  I really really need this challenge.~waterwalker~ I know it's very frustrating to have your heart set on something only for it to crash, but I'll echo everyone else's encouragement to not let it get you down, there's probably something better out there.  Good for you for not binging and feeling even worse later.  When I get down, I usually resolve and plan to have a really big treat, even if it means I go over, and then stop.  That way it's not too much of a disaster and I get my comfort food and can get back on track.  This usually involves chocolate for me!  Anyway, we're rootin' for ya!

smartgirl - I would suggest getting some sort of exercise DVD or video and doing it 4-5 times a week.  It's definitely safer until it stays light longer.  Also, some public rec centers have a walking track that can be used for free.  I don't know where you live, but most are pretty safe.

Good luck!

Yay! I'm excited about being part of a smaller "group".  CC has gotten so huge, which is great, but a smaller accountability group really helps.  I got back on the wagon yesterday (Jan. 7) from several months of back and forth, so this is a good motivation for me.  I just got burned out.  Now I have 12 "extra" lbs to lose that I gained from going back and forth - UGH!  I stayed pretty on track yesterday and so far today is good too.  Keeping track of it on CC is really key for me.  I'm going out for coffee tonight with a friend, so I need motivation to not get some dessert-type thing.  AHHH!!Thanks,Becky
