Weight Loss *%$@# Plateau!!!!!! Feb 16 2009

my 2 cents:

1) if you are working out hard, workout harder, introduce HIIT, it works wonders.

2) eat carbs just for breakfast and as a snack before your workouts

I obey these 2 rules and when i do not see the results, i just push harder, and get out of plateau as soon as possible, i use my carbs wisely, i eat them for breakfast (wholewheat bread or muesli), and before my workouts i make a powerful snack 30 mins earlier (1 table spoon of sultanas, 1 tea spoon of blackcurrant jam and 1.5 table spoon of greek yogurt (full or no fat doesnt matter).

Push harder, the human body shuts off with no warning, but it turns on the same way, give yourself a reward day once a week, i do so on fridays when i do not count calories and eat whatever i want, i also do not do excercise on fridays either, and from saturday to thursday have 4 meals a day. it works wonders, check my progress at www.menshealthchallenge2008.info ... we are doing a challenge with some guys, there is plenty of advice in the thread.

HOPE THIS HELPS!

Weight Loss Sabotaging myself... Feb 16 2009

hey ameliaco,

you are probably not eating enough, thats why you have such sudden cravings, my advice is to eat when you feel hungry, reward yourself once or twice a week depending on your goals, and dont feel guilty about it. if you suddenly binge food, could be emotions or feelings, lately i have learned to fight my cravings with excercise, so basically if i wanna binge, i workout, it seems to work.

Weight Loss Calories burned vs. calories comsumed Feb 10 2009

>>>Can someone please answer this question.  if you eat around 1230 cals p/day >>> and burn 550 working out, how many cals are you actually consuming?

you eat 1230.

you burned 550 working out.

Depending on your age, weight and how active your day to day is, you can calculate  how many calories you burn on a normal day, for women about 2300 a day, for men about 2500 - 3000 a day, but that really varies a lot depending on your muscle mass, fat etc .... but im not gonna go into all that. so lets say you burn 2300 on a normal day (it also depends where this calories come from, 1 gram of carbs has 4 calories and 1 gram of fat has 9, protein has 4 cals per gram.

So back to your quetsion: 2300 (you burn normally) + 550 (working out) = 2850 calories - 1230 you ate = 1620 is the calorie deficit, that is about half a pound of fat. 1 pound of fat = 3500 calories, so if you can create a deficit of 3500 calories in 1 week, that is 1 pound you lose.

hope this helps.

Weight Loss Water Weight? Jan 20 2009

my experience with this is easy, if you dont exercise and eat your normal food and fluids during the day, you are fine, your food contains all the water you need to get you through the day, but, if you workout hard, u must drink water to keep yourself hydrated, i always drink water before, during and after my workouts, another simple thing is this: 1 calorie is the energy required to increase the temperature of 1 liter of water by 1 degree celcius, so this is what i do: I drink 6 pints with iced water every day, that is 3 liters, iced water is about 1 or 2 degrees, the body brings that up to 37 degrees, so for every liter i burn extra 36 calories, that is 108 extra calories burned a day, just by drinking water. if anyone can prove me wrong, i challenge you!.

for me those 108, that is 756 extra calories a week, not bad, just by drinking water. and for those who dont know, 1 pound of fat contains 3500 calories, so those 756 calories extra a week, mean 39312 cals a year, which is 11 pounds of fat ... right there, just by drinking water.

Weight Loss water anyone? Dec 21 2008

Hello,

lets first talk about calories and what a calorie is: 1 calorie is the amount of energy required to increase the temperature of 1 liter of water by 1 C degree. so from that point of view, this is what i do:I drink 5 x 500 ml pints of water every day (with plenty of ice in it), that is 2.5 litrers, letes make it 3 liters. if i drink the water at 1 degree C, then my body uses 37 calories increasing the temperature to 37 which is the temperature it leaves the body at when you pee. so for 3 liters is 111 calories extra burned a day, plus you keep yourself hydrated and, in my case, when i drink water i dont feel as hungry.

Weight Loss I never quite understood The Biggest Loser Method Dec 21 2008
20:01 (UTC)

hello,

I am a huge biggest loser fan and i watch the show all the time. this guys do crazy amount of exercise, very high intensive exercises as well as resistance exercises, they create a daily calorie deficit of about 5000 to 7000 calories, thus the huge amounts of weight they lose, i am sure they also dehydrate themselves before the weigh ins, a 1 hour cardio session will take 1 kg off your body easily (most of it is water, but there is a lot of energy involved). The biggest loser method is the same method as any other fitness instrusctor will tell you, they have 5 to 6 meals a day, each one of them containing about 300 cals, i dont think they do 1200 a day, it must be more, with plenty of carbs, otherwise they would not be able to pull 4 hours of exercise every day, they have oatmeal for breakfast, and drink water all day long, they should be on a 2000 cal/day. In the glorious first week when they lose those huge amounts of weight, half of that weight is just all the stuff in their gut, with that size they can hold up to 1 stone of who knows what ....... plus the first week the body responds quite fast and burns a lot of calories. so with all and all the show is not that bad, they burn those extra calories the hard way, and they learn how hard it is to slim down once the damage is done. It is of course a tv show, and as such, it has some drama in it, but i am sure the gym sessions are extremelly hardcore ...... beyond anything you can imagine.

Weight Loss Kick me please!!! Jan 03 2008
12:47 (UTC)

hey there, there are 2 things that keep me off the booze and bad eating. is easy, hate and fear .... yes, it sounds silly and too simple but it works.

Hate for the person I had become in the past, hate for the many things i never did becuz of being a fat ass who did not really care about his health, hate for the stupid consolation words "i am like this and i cant change, this is just the way i am" ... WRONG! ... u can be better, u can have goals, u can do whatever the heck u want, that is u right there, on the line, wondering why u need other people to encourage you, when u r the only one able to change what u do and the way u live.

Fear ... o what would it be of us without it, fear to die, fear to fail, fear to be unsuccessful, my personal experience tells me that dead is something inevitable, but is something that will come eventually,  i just want to make my life better and even though i will die some day as we all will, just the fact of knowing that by being healthier i can save myself some extra 10 years...... oh mama im down for it !! ....

And talkin about booze ... wine is awesome, it helps to clean ur arteries, is not bad at all, i usually drink a couple of glasses a week. If you consider urself too weak and cant control urself, u can look for advise, there is nothing wrong with that, one thing is look for help, another thing is look for a way to live ur life through somebody else .... that is just wrong. I hope this helps !! i am on the same journey, i have been up and down so many times that i cant tell nomore .... fat, slim , fat, slim again, it sucks ..... but without these journeys my life would probably be so boring ..... so keep up and dont give up, never give up or give in .... U R STRONGER !!!

 PEACE.
