| Hey hey, let's be tolerant here. In my opinion, the comedic value is totally not in this lady's weight--it's in the complete and utter disconnect she has between her little fantasy porn world and the health-conscious reality. She is gorging herself to make her body sexier to random guys who pay her to get off on photos of the body she created by INTENTIONALLY binging. [On mayonnaise, apparently.] I mean, the absurdity of the article was pretty hilarious to me. It's not like I don't have any sympathy for her--she obviously is a bit weird in the head. But, uh. I've gotta laugh a little at the way that she has completely objectified herself, even if it does make me roll my eyes. She's saying she WANTS to gain weight so she can feed internet strangers' kinky fetishes?! She may be confident, but her self esteem is obviously pretty warped. "MY FAVORITE BREAKFAST IS TOAST ABSOLUTELY SMOTHERED IN BUTTER." Wow. |

| Hahaha. That's adorable. It's like you're living in a scene from a musical. :D I occasionally get endorphin highs that cause me to look for any and every excuse to do something physical. I'll finish running and then I'll start jumping in place or dancing or lifting my dogs like dumbbells. :\ It feels gooood. |

| I'm in, I've been off calorie counting for about eight months and just started up again in the past weeks. Trying to get down about 20-30 pounds within the next three months. My weight is fluctuating a ton so it's hard to see any actual results on the scale which is kinda discouraging, but I know I am slimmer. Working out isn't the big issue for me, it's just controlling myself and not snacking on food all night after I've already eaten all my calories, haha. |

| I'm 5'9, and even though I can SWEAR I see it when I put on water weight, I know it's all in my head. :P Nine months ago I remember fluctuating 3 pounds one day and when I saw my boyfriend the first thing I said was, "Do I look fatter?" Oh God, talk about a completely tactless and awkward way to start a conversation, hahaha. |

| Weight Loss | SATC movie... samantha's weight | Jun 24 2008 17:58 (UTC) |

| I think it's funny in 30 Rock because Tina Fey is so obviously NOT fat. I am pretty sure she wrote in those lines herself to poke fun at the "standard" that society seems to expect from women. I thought it was uncalled for in the Sex and the City movie because Samantha obviously WAS kind of pudgy, I mean, more so than she HAD been, so there wasn't the same ironic humor there as there is in "a fat guy named Tiny". Not to mention they hit us over the head with it relentlessly and her friends seemed completely unsympathetic about what they were saying. |

| Weight Loss | Didn't eat enough calories today. What to do? (I need an answer soon) | Jun 24 2008 09:12 (UTC) |

| haha if you aren't hungry, don't eat. take it from an anxiety-disordered obsessive-compulsor (har har), nail-biting over numbers is not going to do you any good in the long run. obviously don't make this a habit but I think the most valuable thing to get out of all of this is knowing when we FEEL FULL, knowing reasonably-sized portions, and stopping before we eat TOO MUCH. it's not about numbers all adding up to a precise amount at the end of the day. |

| Weight Loss | Who's on antidepressants? | Jun 24 2008 09:04 (UTC) |

| Celexa made me feel awful. I was tired all the time and I started binging and felt no motivation to do anything physically or even mentally strenuous. Apparently the perpetrating side effect was "increase in appetite." NO :[ I was taking it as an anti-anxiety medication because I'd have weird breathing panic-attacks when I went to sleep that made me feel like I had to yawn all the time. It was not a happy trade-off. :[ I'd talk to your doctor about all these side-effects first and see if you can get onto another medication. Ask about how they may be affecting your metabolism, etc, because I honestly don't know. In terms of motivation, well, it's up to you! And we are here to help. :] I used to be in the same boat--my anxiety really prevented me from being able to go out and exercise, (and make a fool of myself, in my prior self's opinion), and man, it was just crippling. Don't feel weak at all for not wanting to get off the meds! My aunt was on prozac her whole adult life, and I remember her saying, "I'd rather stay on these pills until the day I die than go back to feeling the way I used to." So if you want motivation, revel in the fact that you can find happiness in so many new things now! Try to get up and be active as much as you possibly can--watch your calories as closely as you can without getting obsessive, (I know how we anxiety-types roll, dawg), and remember that there is no rush. Take it slow, this is a process. You will get there! Yay!! Clap clap clap. Good luck ;] |

| Weight Loss | Oh My...IN excess of 4000..... | Jun 24 2008 08:33 (UTC) |
2 |
| Wait wait wait, looking at your daily schedule, there is no way you are burning 4000 calories a day. :) Honestly, all those activities are probably overestimated/underestimated/etc--just know that they aren't accurate. I remember one time I logged everything I did in a day and it brought me to something like 5200. Whatnow!? I'm going to guess that (as someone else said) you just aren't really creating too much of a deficit because you're overestimating your burn, and that is why you're not losing. |

| Even if you aren't addicted to them, it sounds like you (or whoever you are referring to) may be abusing them. Talk to a counselor or something--you want to nip this in the bud before it gets bad. This kinda thing can kill you if it goes on too long. :( | |||

| Weight Loss | Adding Fish back. | Jun 24 2008 05:37 (UTC) |

| I agree with mrsdagle--definitely gotta be an issue with the sodium in the fish, or something completely and utterly unrelated. Weight fluctuates a lot, sometimes I'll lose or gain 5 pounds from one day to the next. Make sure you keep track of exactly what you're eating for a couple days and see if your weight doesn't slope back down. |

| Motivation | why do people eat so BADLY?? | Jun 24 2008 05:31 (UTC) |

| This was actually one of the things that inspired me to start losing weight last year. My college roommate (assigned to me, I did not know her before coming to school) had some of the most disgusting eating habits I had ever seen. She would get to-go boxes from the dining hall and fill them with cheeseburgers and snack on them all day. She'd munch on cookies and candy and she hated fruits and vegetables. I used to eat oatmeal every day for breakfast and I remember her saying, "How can you eat that? I only like it with cream and marshmallows in it." lol wow. I was never as extreme as she was, but seeing something that I feared could be a reflection of my future self kinda scared me straight. I lost about 30 pounds that year, and by the end of it, she was starting to learn from me and make some changes too. I did it all completely healthily, and I don't quite think she picked up on its intricacies, 'cause she never talked to me about it, she just tried to mimic what she saw me doing--but she definitely stopped doing the 3-burgers-and-fries-a-day thing. Those first six months though, it was so hard to sit there and listen to her chow down on junk. I still remember the sound of her chewing. :| |

| Weight Loss | Boyfriend vent. Any advice? | Jun 24 2008 00:16 (UTC) |

| Just suggest something else without bringing calories into it. It can be tiring to hear about dieting/calories over and over, so he might just be burned out and trying to get you to obsess less. Also, even if he can afford it, going out to eat every single day can be kind of extravagant. You guys could put away a couple dollars a day and put it toward a soft serve maker--then you could make low-cal natural frozen yogurt together and turn it into more of an interactive event than, "Let's go buy stuff together." Do stuff together, just don't base it around food. I feel exactly the same way as you--my guy and I used to eat out together ALL the time, and it drove me insane. Recently we started going on picnics together or cooking together--it's made it more of an activity than just sitting down and ordering. |

| Weight Loss | Unexplained Weight Gain? | Jun 23 2008 03:37 (UTC) |

| I'd write down what you're eating--there might be more calories in what you are consuming than you'd expect. A lot of stuff that is packed with good nutrients, like nuts, or avocados, is also really high in calories. Also, how consistently have you been at this new weight? Measure/weigh yourself for a few days to make sure you aren't just bloated or holding water. I've gained 5-10 pounds of "mystery weight" before too. It is no fun. Here's to solving the mystery. |

| Weight Loss | Calorie Burn Paranoia! | Jun 11 2008 21:56 (UTC) |

| Haha yeah, it's pretty frustrating. I usually half my calorie estimates from those machines if I'm really paying attention to them. Like you said, it all depends on what you're doing with your arms, how you're breathing, how regularly you participate in the exercise you're doing, etc. It's good to pay attention to the balance between how much you burn and how much you eat but try not to fixate too much on the exact numbers, it just makes you neurotic. Trust me, I know. :] |

| Weight Loss | Paiyouji Tea | Jun 11 2008 21:50 (UTC) |

| 20 lbs in two to three weeks? wait what? did they eat anything besides tea during this time? honestly, there are hundreds, if not thousands, of weight loss "teas" out there. most of them are just variations of green or oolong tea. a lot of people feel these teas genuinely do help them lose weight because they're so good at curbing your appetite at a time when you might otherwise snack on food. I lost about 20 pounds during my freshman year of college and I think I do owe a lot of it to green tea. I made it a routine to have a mug or two every night and it kept me satisfied at times when I felt like heating up a bowl of oatmeal or grabbing a handful of popcorn. really, there is no miracle weight loss supplement or ingredient. there are placebos which may encourage you to work harder or eat less, but really, it's up to you to change your body. |

| Weight Loss | Calorie Burn Paranoia! | Jun 11 2008 21:38 (UTC) |

| Exercise machines are famous for overestimating calories, you're right. Instead of obsessing over the numbers for exercise, just give yourself a set limit of calories to eat, and a set length of exercise. A pretty standard formula for losing weight (for females) is to eat 1500 calories a day and work out for 30-60 minutes every day, maybe upping your calories by 200-300 depending on the intensity of your workout. It's important that you eat enough and don't starve yourself, but don't get too obsessive over the numbers--I feel like these forums contain a lot of hysteria over "starvation mode". If you feel like you're not eating enough, (tired, lightheaded, excessively sleepy), then start adding calories at small increments. |

| yikes, that's gotta be frustrating. have you ever told them you feel this way? just a casual, non-threatening, "hey guys, let's not make this a competition, and let's support each other instead, because we are doing this for us." maybe it would knock some sense into them :) if they bring it up then change the subject casually and politely. if they won't drop it then tell them you would rather take a break from talking about weight so much. if they still keep talking about it and it bothers you to the point of extreme irritation, just let them know that you want to talk about something else, and maybe put some distance between them and yourself until they move on. |

| awesome, great luck to you! I think of myself as starting fresh right now too. I took almost 8 months off from paying attention to what I ate and I put on 5 pounds. not a huge amount of weight but it slapped some sense into me and I finally realize that even though other people may have fast metabolisms they don't need to worry about, I definitely need to make sure I don't eat too much, even with the amount of exercise that I do. I just can't make excuses anymore. sounds like you are starting over in a lot of aspects, and that is a great opportunity to really take control of your life and make better decisions than you did before. good luck! |

| Weight Loss | Slurpee | May 21 2008 03:13 (UTC) |
|
| I think it's probably around 50 calories per 16 oz serving going by the median of what google results say. I think Crystal Light itself has around 10-15 calories per serving, and I'd expect the Slurpee version would be more concentrated. Sorry it's not a concrete answer but I hope it points you in the right direction. :) |
