Weight Loss Personal Trainer Nov 20 2009
09:58 (UTC)

I believe in the power of an intelligent, knowledgeable, personable trainer.  I have used one because when I started my journey, I had never set foot in a gym.  I needed to learn how to lift properly.  I needed that accountability of showing up at the gym on certain days.

For me, I found the experience to be very positive, motivating and educational.  I would recommend interviewing the trainer ahead of time.  It has to be the right match.  You have to like the person and TRUST the person.

Good luck to you on your journey and I hope you find the right match.

Good luck to you.  May I suggest that you tweak something?  I am a huge believer in the power of thought and self-motivation.  Your title of this thread has a fragrance of frustration and self-doubt.  May I suggest that instead you turn your statements into positive, strong, self-loving statements?  For instance...instead of 'here I go again'...how bout simply "First Day of My New Lifestyle"?

Attitude is so important. And phrasing things in a most positive way helps your mindset and actually benefits the overall mind and body connection.

Good luck to you on the first day of your new lifestyle!

Hey Everyone,

I was looking for a week long detox to kick start my weight loss again and Holland and Barrett recommended "4321 shape up and detox" it's a 10 day detox drink, has anybody heard of this or does anyone have any advice on it???

Calorie Count's mission is to promote healthy and sustainable weight management. Please help our moderators follow this vision and respect the following guidelines.

  • Promotion of starvation diets or habits that exhibit signs of an eating disorder ("pro-ana", "pro-mia", etc.) is prohibited.

Please do yourself a favor and nix the detox.  It is not healthy.  Healthy is what CC is all about.

Im sure you have learned this on the boards before....

Do your body a favor and eat properly, drink plenty of water, watch the salt shaker and exercise.

My personal thoughts are that you should strength train to shape your body.  You are talking about a little bit between your legs that you dont like...train the muscles and tighten it up.

Dont tell me that it cant be done as I have personally experienced it.

Hit the gym and change your body!  Surgery is not the right answer for such a little amount of weight.

Not sure what you are eating,  but you could add some nuts (like almonds) to your routine.  They are a good source of protein.  You could also try to add a protein drink into the mix if you are struggling to reach your calories for the day.  I do rely on protein bars (love the met-rx ones).  They provide a good source of protein for me and when I am on the run at the office, they also provide convenience.

Well said hedgren.

It is all a matter of mind and body.  The mind is so powerful.  Be wary not to sabotage yourself.  In the meantime, while you are choosing a therapist, head over to the library and look up Geneen Roth.  She has written some excellent books on emotional eating.

Good luck to you and remember....believe in yourself.

Weight Loss cardio vs. strength training Oct 23 2009
07:13 (UTC)

You need both.  I adore strength training.  I love pushing myself and seeing the amount of weight lifted increase.  I do cardio, but struggle with it.  You do cardio for your circulation and your heart.  I look at strengthtraining as molding my body, shaping it.

Just as a warning, I'm going to complain a little bit.

This summer I was running every day, eating well, and I was at 113 pounds. I felt great about my body. I also had a fantastic boyfriend whom I loved very, very much.

About 6 weeks ago, my boyfriend and I broke up because of complicated circumstances. I was horribly upset and crying all the time for quite a while. I'm definitely not over him yet, but hopefully I'm getting closer.

In attempt to make myself feel better, I took solace in food. I stopped working out and ate a lot. All the time, I was eating. In 6 weeks, I gained 8 pounds. I feel massive and disgusting, and I don't feel any better about the boyfriend situation. I just undermined myself and made everything worse.

As of today, I'm back on the wagon. I ran a little over 3 miles today with my dog, and I've been eating good foods. I think I feel better already.

I'm still working to get over that boy, and I hope things start to get better. It's funny how much this affected me... I just want to be over him already! gah. Well, eating right and working out will provide a nice distraction...

Am thrilled for you.  Dont get me wrong....and I have no idea how old you are....but do you realize how many women are emotional eaters?  Here you have realized that the bf and you were not working out.  For whatever reason, you have parted.  It took only three weeks for you to then realize that you cannot fix your problems with food.  Congrats!  Totally seriously, congrats!  You could have done true damage to yourself and packed on 25 lbs or more...you only did eight.  Remember this in the future.  Allow yourself to grieve the relationship and concentrate on what makes you feel complete as a woman.

I really miss summer too.  I dislike being cold and having my body/bones chilled.

As far as you getting up and changing that motivation....ask yourself this....How did you feel after you exercised?  Was your body energized?  Was your outlook for the day positively increased?

Focus on the benefits of the gym (or whatever exercise you like).  Focus on how it makes you feel.  Then ask yourself, how in the world you can possibly deny your body and mind that fantabulous feeling?

Motivation Help to get back on track Oct 13 2009

You dont need to straight up run on the treadmill, but you certainly can walk on it for 30-45 min a day right?  I would venture to say that putting fast foods in your body is your biggest 'sin'.  Perhaps you could concentrate on switching out those fast food chicken tenders and learn to cook chicken breasts.  They are actually quite tasty.  Peanut butter is a good source of protein, but realize too that you need to balance your day with vegetables, protein, and fruits.

Motivation At the end of a good day, there's still a feeling of guilt... Oct 13 2009

Rethink those inner thoughts.  What do you have to feel guilty about?  Did you eat properly?  Did you exercise that body?  Did you drink enough water?  If so, then banish the negative thoughts and put positive vibes out into the universe.  You will be happy you did.

Everyone gets a negative vibe now and then...it is what you do with it that counts.  Allow yourself to have a guilty nanosecond and then pick yourself back up and change the attitude.

Toss a smile on your face.  Be thankful that you are six feet above ground (and not six feet underground).  Count your blessings, focus on gratitude and ditch the negativity.

I vote for more 'bedroom-related' activities.  That said, other activities could include taking a dance lessons.  It would get you and the spouse out of the house for the evening, you would learn to Salsa, Tango or whatever and you would get great exercise.

Having been in a situation w/ stepchildren, I feel for you.  It is a very difficult thing and even MORE difficult when your spouse doesnt back you up.

My advice to you would be to sit the man down and tell him in no uncertain terms that you have to be a team.  Otherwise, you may as well start drinking or something to soothe your soul.

Good luck, it is a tough road to hoe.

Spinach is practially zero (depending upon how it is cooked).  Cheese, would depend on what kind and how much.  And Pizza dough..again, how much.

Please utilize the tools on CC, especially the recipe analyzer to see the caloric content.  It is quite a good tool.

so am i the only woman here who not only isn't bothered by her man watching it, but is also turned on by it herself? not all of it, but some. i'm not into the kind of thing where the woman is obviously uncomfortable, degraded or looks really young. but when it's two obviously very consenting adults i've got no issue with it.

never once have i considered it a slight on me if my boyfriend or ex bfs watched it. only if he started turning down the real thing in favor of his laptop and his hand would i be bothered.

 No, you aren't. :)

 3rded.

 4thed or 5thed or whatever.

Many women not only are not bothered, but enjoy erotica/porn, whatever you want to call it.  It is up to the couple to decide how they want to enjoy things.  What floats one person's boat, may sink another's.  Age has nothing to do with it...but sexual freedom (freedom from inhibitions) may have everything to do with it.

If you want it bad enough you will become motivated enough so that nothing will stop you.  Consider hiring a trainer for a few days a week.  Get used to working out on a regular basis and you will feel renewed and energized.  If you have it available to you, try lifting weights.  They are especially good for women, strengthen the bones, tone the body and drop the weight.

Good luck, it is attainable at any age.

Well if you have to be so up or so down, this is a nice way to do it.  Congrats on the fun shopping trip!  Glad to see you enjoying yourself.  Return the clothes if you must and then remember that you can always reward yourself with a certain dollar amount to be spent on new wardrobe as you lose (if you want).

Congrats.

People ask me if I ever get sick of chicken breast....nope.  To the OP, there is nothing wrong with eating the same foods over and over.  To me, it is simplicity.  I dont have to put extensive thought into it...just thought into how I am going to do the spices.

That honey-do list is perfect for your lifestyle and Im sure the Mrs. appreciates it as well.  Home gets fixed up and hubby gets buff....how can she lose?

Congrats!
