| mgoyder - my scales didn't work either, so consider using a tape measure on neck, largest points of chest, waist, hips, thighs, ankles, upper arm and wrist. It will help to see these go down until you can replace the scales or drop enough so it works :)
day 7 for me :) Eating well and logging food. Going out for exercise! yeeps! |

| loosing, I hear you. I have spent a lifetime overeating processed manmade foods; italian, mexican, chinese fat filled deep fried, yummy. And the desserts.
I have a hard time stopping after a few bites, so I try not to eat them and then I feel angry and deprived. Did you go through this? And how did you get past the urge to quit? |

Your meal/snacks seem to be heavy on protein compared to mine. Are you doing a low carb plan? Any specific reasoning or medical need on that? |

| Weight Loss | Does saturated fat make you fat? | Aug 28 2007 02:16 (UTC) |

| melkor, I think it's disengenuous to dismiss the saturated fat guidelines. those articles are not even close to mainstream thought on fats (like from mayoclinci or harvard or any mainstream resource). It's true that the thinking on fats has changed from eliminating all fats to including fats in the diet. But everyplace (aha, ada, etc) recommends limiting saturated fats to 10% or less of daily calories. the newest guidelines are 7%.
here's an article about the new 7% guidelines and the effects of sat fats, and another article about 1 of the negative impacts of sat fats |

| Variety is the spice of life!!!!
at some point, you may get tired, so don't be afraid to change things up and explore other alternatives. oatmeal is beyond excellent for removing cholesterol from your system and it sticks to your guts like almost nothing else I've found.... so it's a fav of mine too! just don't burn yourself out on those sandwhiches and the oatmeal.... and for your sandwiches, are you using good whole grain breads? pile on the veggies! looking good to me! |

| i'm on a thurs - wed week, so weighins for me are on thurs.
i'm on the west coast, but not a major city like San Diego.... I'm on day 5, week 1, and finally today was a little easier mentally. I had a really hard time yesterday. I felt like crying, my brain was having major fits and I felt like I just wanted to eat, and eat some more. I wasn't physically hungry. I was emotionally hungry and felt like I was deprived and did NOT want to do this (in my heart) even though I know in my brain that I really need to. but that barely mattered to me yesterday all afternoon and evening. I barely made it through, and I felt like my brain was having a temper tantrum like a 2 yr old. It was AWFUL. Today is better, and I keep telling myself: I will be ok. It is enough food to nourish my body. I will survive. I will be healthier because I am doing this. |

| crash diets and exercise only might work for a day or 2 until you go right back to eating/exercising like before.
shoot for realistic. you can lose 1 - 2 lbs a week safely and don't over-exercise. you can hurt yourself. Too much exercise is not as effective as finding the right amount to challenge your muscles without injury. It is important to allow your muscles to build and improve without injury. |

There is no question that your metabolsim slows if you cut calories too severely, studies have shown this to be true, your RMR can slow to about 15% if you cut to say 800 calories a day.Shiptona, that is exactly what people mean by starvation mode from what i've seen around here.... thanks for explaining it so well. It is dangerous to lose too fast... unless a doctor wants you to because other things are more dangerous (like preparing for a surgery or the risks of being tremendously overweight) my thoughts. except I thought it was slow about 15%... (shrug), either way, your metabolism slows from undereating. and yes, it's possible to actually starve by cutting to 50% of what you burn.. |

| feel better jansa!
sugar ~ parting is bittersweet sorrow. enjoy your last moments, and maybe work on a care package of memories you could send her for Christmas? (anything other than food) shouldn't be too long before your sadness lifts, but may take a few days. try not to comfort yourself with food, k? speaking of food, i head straight for the kitchen for every reason. so, I am struggling not to binge. And I'm about day 4 on logging food and for luzing again, and I am having a mental struggle. I feel panicy that I can't eat enough. Even though it is enough food. So, I printed out all my food today. Going to put it on the fridge and stick to it. andrey, i shoot for a 500 calorie deficit but when I freak, i try not to eat more cals than i burn. I have a hard time cutting back calories. |

| I guess I don't understand why people are pushing all this eat back stuff.
If your deficit gets too large and you are losing too fast, then you need to eat more. So, keep your deficit between 500 - 1,000 cals a day to lose 1 - 2 lbs a week. Don't eat less than 1,200 cals a day. and don't freak if you undereat 50 cals one day, just eat a little more the next day. Starvation mode occurs over days and weeks of undereating. |

| you don't have to eat back calories unless your defict gets too big because you burned too many cals.
keep a 500 - 1,000 calorie deficit to lose 1 - 2 lbs a week and don't eat below 1,200 |

You have asked a lot of questions recently. A lot of people have given you very good information. Do you have questions about what people are telling you? Are you afraid to believe the answers? Are you scared to try it? |

| I'm having trouble today. This is my 3rd day and I'm trying not to overeat. But today is harder because it feels like I'm restricting. Which makes me want to binge. I feel panicy. I will look for that book. |

| Wow Texas! Thanks!!! I felt like I was reading all the things I've thought and forgotten!!!!
Sometimes it's just so discouraging to think about luzing the whole 1/2 of me I need to lose. Feels down right impossible & I get so discouraged! I guess this means some serious changes, and I don't know how much I'm really willing to change/give up. Because I know I really need to. I know I would be healthier, but dang it, there are things I really adore! Like puddles of melted cheese and mounds of unmelted ice cream ~ lol ~ the thought makes me drool even though I never ever eat them together! (giggles ;) Beth ~ I'm also a DC addict. They may have to pry a can from my tightfisted clasp.... so why are you concerned about aspartame? Welcme Knast :) |
