Oooh okay... the funny thing is, the other thing I suggested "Citrucel"... is a gentle fiber supplement mix drink (its really good actually, like tang/oj)

Anyway, long story short- its hard to say because I eat a lot of fiber on top of my protein intake, but basically, no problems at all! :)

That is a beautiful story and really inspiring. My mom has recently took up running again, but in the beginning had to stop too because of knee issues. Your story really made me smile. Thanks for sharing. I wish you the best along your journey! :) Congratulations!

Egg whites / Protein!

I've learned having a good amount of protein with every meal has REALLY made me lose that "I'm hungry" feeling that I used to have all the time!

Also, Citrucel is amazing. I only have 1 serving a day (rather than 3) and it has been wonderful! In the morning, before my long runs, I'll have cirtucel mixed with 1/2 a scoop of protein soy powder... totally great little something for pre-run!

I'd drink a BIG glass of water before any of that. I've heard it 16oz of water in the a.m can boost the metabolism... also... there's times I wake up "starving" but after some water, I realize I'm not as hungry as I thought (but I still have breakfast right away).

One more huge tip... I would have had the oatmeal concoction with an egg, or 3-5 egg whites...

Basically I believe WATER and PROTEIN are the solution to end that "still hungry" feeling :)

going to the gym for 2 hours this morning, even though i really didn't feel like it. after a day of school and stress i found myself at home feeling guilty about not doing my run today and then i came across a major headache... instead of using it as an excuse to not run... i drank a bunch of water... let it set and ran 3 miles.

amazingly, i feel great now! :)

cardio, of course helps with the burning of fat.

but for definition, id suggest something as simple as get on a step of some sort (like a stair)... tip toes on it and do raises

i'd suggest doing 3 sets of 25. i bet you'll not only feel the difference, but within time, see it.

that with running really helped me!
Fitness Self training for a full marathon...how am I supposed to eat? Apr 08 2008
22:03 (UTC)
Well, some cereal is mostly carbs... but for runners... carbs are great. I would recommend playing around on RunnersWorld.com, there is a lot of useful tools there.

I was running about 30-35 miles a week, intaking about 2000 cals a day, and found I was really undereating. The general guideline I seem to continuously hear is if you're running 20-25 miles a week, you should be eating 2,300-2,500 calories.

Also, you may find it more beneficial taking a day off. It's very important to give your body a break. With exercise, it is a lifestyle- and there is no way you should or probably will run everyday for the rest of your life. I'd also recommend breaking your runs up. For instance if you run 6 miles in a day, do 3 in the A.M. and 3 in the P.M. Keep your body guessing, but at the same time, continue the the same amount of miles. I really would bet that the "weight gain" is something else, perhaps water retention. (Make sure you're drinking LOTS of water, I'd say at least 2 liters a day).

Again, I am not an expert. So check out Runner's World. For personal experience I can say I thought I was gaining at first too when I began running. I wasn't though. Stick to it. I really think you will be pleased in your body change as well as becoming able to run further/faster. Try not to get discouraged :)

Fitness (another) elliptical question... Apr 02 2008
22:07 (UTC)
thank you! a trainer told me my max was 150-160.

when i run, i usually assume to burn 100 cals for every mile, so I was just doing the same with the elliptical, even though I feel I'm getting a much harder workout on the elliptical.

I don't eat anything before my morning runs. If you do eat, I'd wait a little bit before running for digestion reasons, or have something light...

If I feel hungry and am planning a long run (7 or more miles,) I usually will have a 1/2 banana, and some nuts... or 1/2 a yogurt.

I think its annoying when I see a girl weighing herself throughout her work out. Cardio...scale...cardio... scale

I'm always tempted to give a lecture on water weight.

Ooh I also can't stand when men grunt or clear their throats of mucus. I know sometimes they can't help it, or even know their doing it, but it is still annoying!
Fitness Potential benefits? Mar 19 2008

I'm trying to trick my body, because I'm worried it has become to familiar to my routine. As a result, my weight has not fluctuated at all, but I've seemed to have become "softer" (aka put on some fat).

I'm hoping to still hit 30mi a week, as I'm planning to run some races this spring/early summer.
Fitness any tips for a beggining runner? Mar 14 2008

Running is addicting! I didn't start till my basketball (college) career ended.. and I was at a "now what" point...

Since starting at 21, I'm 23 now, I've been hooked...

My tips would have to be stretch! Before AND after... and always LISTEN to your body. If you're thirsty, in pain, whatever... listen to it... don't try to "run through it" unless you KNOW it's really 'nothing'.

:-)

My most important advice- never let running be a chore or a burden. As with any exercise, enjoy it! If you don't feel like doing it... DONT... but then again, if you don't feel like doing it- run just 1 minute (I have a feeling after that first step you'll mood will change) :-)

Good luck!

omg... that ice cream concoction sounded disgusting.... lol but to each its own!! :) cravings are funny i remember one time i was pmsing...i literally devoured 1/2 a jar of better n' peanut butter w/ vanilla yogurt & thrown in almonds...

not bad? oh... before that, for breakfast, i had 10 homemade cookies & some pumpkin bread lol.... needless to say , the sugar cravings were going wild.

the cramps went away... but i had a massive sugar hangover. no fun.
Weight Loss is oatmeal bloating? Mar 14 2008

Hi!

Is the instant kind? Then... YES!

If you have other bloating issues, Look up "Celiac"

Switch over to the slow cooked Oats :-) they're better for you anyway, because there isn't as much processed junk, etc...

Otherwise, it shouldn't be bloating you :)

I hope this helps!

lol... my "rude comments" were early...& 32123's comments were about them.

they were in response to joanne811's comments...

I replied "132 at 5'11'' sounds healthy to you? i dont mean this wrong, but by looking at your profile (experience), I know you know that is not a 'healthy' weight...maybe it looks good but it isnt healthy. "

i thought it was kind of rude after i read it, and i didnt mean it to. i just meant someone familiar with EDs would know about unhealthy weights and therefore 5'11'' 132 is unhealthy. i didnt want it to be taken the wrong way so i erased it.

wow... bitter much?

"a skinny man's frame"... "a closet anorexic"? i mean, really? wow.. lol you gotta be kidding me. i'm not offended because i just sense a strong overall bitterness/type of resentment from you. oh well. not my problem

My post in the first place was to point out that this site was giving UNHEALTHY suggestions...

and just to add, I don't think I'm paranoid of my weight... I don't even own a scale. I do know that my weight effects my running, but that discussion is for the fitness forum. (also, I'm preventing from actually defending myself, because that'd be just silly).

again, as stated in my original post- I went on the site simply because the show was on and I was bored/curious...also I was just hoping that people who DO have weight issues and may have used that site were not believing it to be accurate.

My doctor told me that ideally at my height, the weight should be 150-170.

I don't know. I was 134 before, and the same size(s) I am now, just no muscle... which I think was totally unhealthy. Eh, who knows.
