I'm having trouble finding my recipes. I don't see an option under Recipe Browser to look at my own recipes. I found one of mine by searching recipes for my name but I can't find anything else. Help!

Edit: I figured it out. If you go to Foods, the tabs show:

Overview |  Food Browser  |  Recipe  Browser  |  New  Recipe  |  Unit  Converter

If you click on Recipe Browser and then click on any of the recipes in the list of most popular recipes it shows you, the missing tabs show up. In addition to Overview | Food Browser  |  Recipe  Browser etc. you also have Tagged Recipes | My Recipes.

Now that I know how to get to my recipes I don't mind but someone should probably fix that.

Don't call your husband cruel. Cruel would be making fun of you for being overweight. Telling you he isn't attracted to you anymore isn't cruel, it's honest.

Sounds like you're feeling really down and ill to boot. Try to get lots of vitamin C, that might help you recover faster. Good luck!

Weight Loss My Boyfriend Jul 17 2007

People have different triggers to getting healthier. Some people start eating right and then slowly get into the exercise aspect of being healthier, and some people start exercising, get into it, and then change their diets to get better results with their workouts. Maybe your boyfriend is the second type? I wouldn't bug him too much, but if he likes to go to the gym that's definitely a good thing. :)

Well, here's my own recipe for Sweet and Spicy Hoisin Pork. It's still high in sodium unfortunately (1000 mg), you could use lower sodium soy sauce and maybe cut back on the hoisin sauce I think.

I agree with the above poster who talked about oyster sauce. That stuff is great with beef, oh boy.

Edit: 1 serving of this stuff is a huge amount, don't be put off by the calories, you could eat a smaller portion easily and be full.
Foods how do you store blueberries and raspberries? Jul 17 2007

Just keep them in the container, they're good for about a week. The only thing about blueberries is that you should wait to wash them until right before you eat them. They have a delicate protective cover that comes off with gentle washing and you want that on there as long as possible, I believe to prevent spoilage. I don't know about raspberries, they're probably good for about the same amount of time.

If you don't eat them all you can freeze them, I love frozen berries in protein smoothies.

I doubt they add sugar to it, as seldon says they would have to put it in a list (right?) but it really doesn't matter if they do. Natural sugar in juice form isn't really natural anymore, not without the fiber.

(I do drink juice sometimes so I promise I'm not bashing it!) :P

Weight Loss Large arms: Will they ever be smaller?! Jul 16 2007

Weightlifting is terrific for fat loss. You will lose much more fat per pound of weight lost than if you don't lift weights. Don't give it up for cardio, that's bad advice. Cardio will burn off lean muscle mass along with fat. Eat at a calorie deficit and lift heavy weights. Try HIIT for cardio if you are fit enough to do it. If you aren't comfortable with this, research until you are!

Lifting light weights for lots of reps does absolutely nothing and is also bad advice. 'Lean muscle' is just a buzzword. There's just muscle. It gets bigger or it gets smaller. The best way to make it bigger is to hit it with heavy weights for low amounts of reps (less than 12). The best way to make it smaller is to ignore it.

If you'd be happy with having smaller, still flabby arms then stop hitting your arms with the weights. Or you can focus on losing bodyfat. You may have genetically muscular arms as well.

I'd choose the one with less sugar period, even if you have to deal with Spenda.

However in reality I would just eat an orange. Juice isn't all that great for you no matter what you do. :(

I gain weight every month around that time, then lose it later. Look at the chart in my profile if you want. It shows the last couple of months. Those bumps in the green trend line (where I gain several pounds) are right before TTOM.

(weight is up today from drinking last night ignore the last entry!)

Weight Loss a question about sugar? Jul 16 2007
02:56 (UTC)
Well, for example, it's much better to eat fruit than to drink juice. If you have the same amount of sugar in the fruit and in the juice, the fruit is still better because you are getting the fiber that is meant to be consumed with the sugar. It slows the absorption a bit and you need the fiber to help with your digestive tract.

So honeydew isn't bad, but I wouldn't eat like table sugar or anything. Don't know if that helps. :)
Weight Loss having trouble increasing calories.... HELP Jul 16 2007

The reason you see people eating more to lose weight is because they have eaten too little and screwed up their metabolisms. When they eat more, their bodies eventually realize that they aren't starving and will start letting the excess weight go. It can take months of eating more calories depending on how long and how severely they have been undereating. You, however, have no excess weight. You are already unhealthily thin.

You will gain weight eating any more calories than you are now. It sounds like you've been severely undereating for a while, and it may take months and months of you eating 2000+ calories a day for your body to recover from the horrible damage you have done to it.

The trick of eating more to fix your metabolism and lose more weight isn't going to work for you since the weight you want to be is way too low for your body to handle. But you still need to eat more.

I suggest you see a doctor who can help you with what seems to be an eating disorder.

Edited to add: I know you don't want lectures, that's why I tried to just give you a some short, simple advice in my first post. It would be best for you to immediately start eating at a proper calorie level, but that's very hard, I know it. 100 calories a week is less of a mental hurdle if you know what I mean, so that's what I suggested. I feel very sorry for you and wish you the best of luck.

Try eating one hundred more calories a day for a week. Then the next week add one hundred more. Keep doing that until you get to a healthy calorie level (at least 1200 if you are female).

You're very, very thin already. I wouldn't try to lose any more weight if I were you.

Weight Loss falling off the bandwagon Jul 16 2007

I try to not beat myself up when I don't do something I should. I just move on to the next day. Otherwise I put myself in some kind of vicious cycle.

Success in weight loss is almost a mental trick. Do whatever it takes so that you don't feel too deprived. Exercise must be a habit, something you just do every other day. It takes a while for the habit to form, a couple of months for me (I take longer than 21 days haha). Just keep going.
Weight Loss What is your eating plan? Jul 16 2007
02:23 (UTC)

In the beginning I planned a day or two ahead but now that I'm used to it I don't anymore. I log each meal as I go, and sometimes I still set up dinner while I'm eating lunch or something. I have pretty regular eating habits though.

The only thing I actually try to watch is protein to make sure I get enough (80-90 grams for me). Since switching to whole grain foods and eating more vegetables I haven't had a problem with fiber.
Weight Loss The "starvation mode" myth thread (lets see some evidence please) Jul 16 2007

dm84, anorexics tend to eat very, very little, on the order of 100-300 calories per day. The body is forced to shed fat at that point (along with muscle, organ tissue, etc). I think we're talking about the range of 600-900 calories or so as far as 'starvation mode' goes.
Weight Loss The "starvation mode" myth thread (lets see some evidence please) Jul 15 2007

What is the purpose of this discussion? I understand what you are saying, but I don't think this is the appropriate venue for it. This is a weight loss site, not a scientific journal. Nobody here is a scientist and nobody is going to be able to do anything other than link to articles, which to be honest I think you should be searching for yourself if you are that concerned about the subject. Don't you think it would be more productive to do your own research and perhaps just tell us your results?

Logically, telling people to eat over 1200 net calories a day isn't harmful at all, so even if starvation mode is complete bull (which is isn't, united gave you all the information you should need) it's not hurting anybody. In the real world, this discussion is not going to prevent harm to anyone.

And in fact, this discussion could actually harm people. I agree 100% with other posters that questioning 'starvation mode', whether the science behind it is correct, is completely counterproductive with the goals of this site. Believe me, some people will use even a hint of questioning something like this as complete validation for eating 400 calories a day, no matter how many times you point out that you don't believe in that and would never do it.

Really, just don't, it's not good.
