I'm sorry about not posting last week, dh got a new computer and it took him forever to get it set up with the new system.  I have done horribly over the last two weeks.  It is 178lbs again, but i have started back to my eating plan.  I started with a 50 minute walk today and plan to get on my elliptical later this afternoon.  There is a new fitness club near the hospital where i work and dh got me a 6 month membership so now I really have no excuses about not exercising after work do i.  I plan on checking them out this week.

This has been a bad week for me, but miraculously no gain at 172lbs.  I'm hoping this week will be better.

You are doing really well dev, you deserve a pat on the back.  I really don't know if i will make my new years goal.  I had a really nice birthday though.   I really fear the scale this coming week but plan on eating healthy til then.  My rings are tight so i know it probally is the sodium i had at the restaurant.  I had white pasta,  the first time in about 6 months and a slice of cake.  I felt i deserved it since i really have stayed on my way of life eating plan for the last 11 months.

You look awesome!  What size are you in now?  Go for another 10 and see how you feel, and go from there til you feel good about how you look.  Don't let the number on the scale tell you how much to lose, let your body and the way you look in the mirror tell you.

I have never done the zone diet, but eating good fats is healthy within reason.  It can make your bad cholesterol much lower and have your good cholesterol rise(that's a good thing.) I myself follow south beach which uses the good fats as well.  Tell your parents you are doing fine with your plan and you will support your brother on his journey on losing weight by exercising with him ect.

First of all talk with your doctor.  I'm a rn and it could be dangereous if you don't follow your docs advice. Steroids can make you feel weird and cause your heart to speed up and your glucose levels to rise.  It's only for a little while so slow down the exercise if it makes you feel strange.

Good job greyskies, you are still losing.  This time of year is rough.

It's important to drink just the water, or at least non carbonated no caffeine drinks.  I work in a hospital and the nutritionist told me you need to drink whatever you are in pounds divide it by 2 in ounces of noncarbonated beverages.  The carbonated makes you retain more sodium and harder to lose the water weight.  Drinking your water will also increase your metabolism which is why you tend to lose more on the days you are good on drinking your water.

You are probally gaining muscle while loosing the fat.  This is what we call a nsv(non scale victory).  Remember muscle weighs more than fat.  If you have been dieting for a while and exercising, that's what i think is why you are at a standstill and plautauing.  Try either kicking up your exercise, water or eating plan.  What exactly is your day meal consisting of, give me a sample of what you had yesterday.

I've been following the no refined carbs for the last 11 months and will not go back to the way i was eating.

Breakfast: 2 eggs, 2 slices turkey bacon, 1 slice of 11 grain bread(It has to be at least 7 grains for me) with a small amount of promise margarine

snack: a apple, 1 tb all natural peanut butter with no sugar

lunch: lean chicken on a bed of dk green lettuce, such as spring salad-no iceberg, 1/2 ounce of lowfat cheese multigrain croutons(just a handful) and a low fat dressing.  I choose low fat versus no fat because they tend to add a lot more sugars.

snack- celery and laughing cow lite cheese

dinner: lean meat such as chicken or even beef, sweet potato, mashed cauliflower

snack: I usually don't eat but when i do it's a yogurt or sf dessert

Here's my answer for your exercise question.  I am addicted to my elliptical, just love it!!  I've seen really good results and it really has shaped my body(though i have a long way to go) i believe  than walking or the treadmill.  I also use 8 lbs weights on my arms for toning. I use it 4 times a week alternating with floor strenghtening exercises.

Maybe you could arrange for one of the trainers at your gym to give you some ideas on what machines might be best.  They can also make sure you are using the machines correctly.  I personally like to do weight training with cardio.  Weight training should be done every other day and really will help you lose fat and gain muscle.

I can understand how you feel, you want that weight gone now!  The important thing is to follow a healthy plan, such as losing 2 lbs a week.  I wanted to lose 100lbs last year on jan 1, i probally could have done better but i lost 70lbs and though i do look and feel pretty good i want to lose more.  The slower you take it off the better chance you have at keeping it off.  Two lbs a week would have you over 50lbs thinner and even though that is not your goal you would be well on your way.
