I don't get it. Everyone on this thread seems to agree that breastfeeding a baby is perfectly normal and natural... so why the caveat that a cover-up must be used?

I don't care if a woman doesn't use a cover-up to breastfeed and personally think using one simply perpetuates the silly idea that breastfeeding is shameful and should be done behind closed doors.

What's wrong with asking people to at least try to be modest?  Yeah, it's just a boob, and yeah we are whipping it out for a good reason (to feed a baby).   But regardless of the reason, we are still whipping out a boob and I think it's apropriate to at least try to make the attempt to be modest in a public place when regarding certain body parts...regardless of the reason for uncovering them.

At my uni we HAD to take health class, general PE (which was more focused on lowering body fat, upping endurance, etc) and then a free class (yoga, tennis, etc).

I think a nutrition class should be mandatory as well.

 ^This!

I think part of the problem is that alot of American schools don't do this.  College is supposed to be about getting a well rounded education.  I'm surprised how little some Colleges and Universities focus on this subject.  Mine did not require even ONE PE or health class.

no. I'm 125 pounds, but even then I dont look like it either.

But you aren't getting what we are trying to say to you.  You are at an excellent BMI.  and if you were older, we'd probably tell you to go for more weight loss if you wanted to.  But the fact is that you are 16.  Your body is still growing.  You may not see it on the outside, but your brain, organs and insides are still developing as well.  And most of us have been here long enough to realize that dieting at a young age such as yours is not always a great thing.  If you were overweight, then yes, dieting would be advised.  But you aren't overweight and therefore, dieting any further may not be the best thing for your growing body.

Not everyone is meant to get to a low weight.  However, it would help us if you could tell us how many calories you eat daily.  This would help us to figure out if you are cutting calories in a manner apropriate for your age.

Edit:  I see that you have posted in the past that you are barely eating 1500 calories and that you think yourself fat and ugly.  This suggests to me that you might have more issues going on than just wanting to lose a couple more pounds.  Have you talked to your family about your self esteem issues?

Thank you for replying, now I know I'm not alone. I really don't want to gain back the weight I worked so hard to get rid of. I try to have a snack every few hours and I bought low calorie hot cocoa so I can get my chocolate fix but sadly today I still ate a ton of chocolate and bread! I have zero self control!

 *sigh*

You are STILL not answering our questions.  We can't help you if you refuse to give us any real info.  What are your stats and how many (average) calories are you eating on a daily basis?  Undereating when dieting can eventually lead to bingeing when the person tries to raise their calories back up.

Stress can be another cause of binge eating.  Eating an overabundance of sugars or carbs can cause binge eating in some people.  There are so many things that can cause bingeing and we can't help you until you answer the questions that have been asked of you.

Original Post by run4eva:

It is so complicated.  I will try to explain my personal cycle.

Obsession with perfection/thiness->Over-excercise and undereat in the attempt to achieve that goal-> Extreme hunger results--->restrict even further in attempt to thwart a binge, as one extra bite could start the waterfall --->Cannot control hunger anymore.  Eat extra.  Eat a forbidden food and continue to eat as you already have perceived loss of control. Feel worse as you eat more, tell yourself you are fat, ugly, continue to numb yourself more with food until eating is no longer possible. ---> Then comes the self-hatred and the cylce begins again with the restriction, etc. in an attempt to be perfect, undo the binge damage, and prove to yourself that you are in control of your food and your life.

How sick and twisted is that?  Thankfully, I can spot the lies in that and know that just because I think it, does not mean it is true.

Original Post by alicandra:

Quite a lot of models in general are genetic anomalies.  Fact of life. They're the 0.05% of the population with perfect skin, the perfect height, and the perfect bodies. Although half of the models on ANTM probably are on very strict diets, there will be a few of them that eat just like the rest of us and never put on anything due to a fast metabolism and good luck.

I'm sure everyone on here has that one friend, that's as tall as a house and thin as a piece of paper, who eats like a horse and never gains weight. One of my closest friends in the world (not literally, she lives in trinidad now!) weighs 100lbs at 5'10, she eats in abundance but never puts on a pound (damn genetics).

I think this ^ is probably a pretty good answer.  I guarantee not all of them are gorging themselves on pizza on a daily basis.  Heck, those 2 slices of 400 calorie pizza might be the only thing that some of them eat all day.

But then again, some of them are probably just lucky.  We all know the one friend who can eat anything and stay thin.

I'd say that it's probably a mix of the two kinds of people...the ones who have pretty strict diets and the ones who are just genetically blessed.

I can think of several ways to at least rule some things out.  Let's go for the obvious ones first.

1) What are your stats and how many calories a day do you eat?  This will tell us if you are possibly undereating.

2) On average, how much protein, carbs, and fat and sugars do you consume in an average day?  This might be related to the whole insuline question, since eating lots of sugar can create an appetite for more sugar.  This goes for too many simple or "white" carbs.

3) Do you have any problems with depression?  Feeling sad?  Feeling unusually bored?

4) What time of day are you most likely to binge?  Can you give us an estimate of how many calories are usually in one of your binges?

I think it's an egregious invasion of personal liberty. They should offer the class as an elective for all and as a required class for health related majors.

Naw.  Schools can require students to take anything they want to.  I don't think it's right to make only certain people take it though.  I agree with most of the others.  They should ALL be required to take it.  Depending on where students these days have gone to grade school and High school, some  have probably never had a proper nutrition class.  And since this IS higher education we are talking about, I think health and nutrition would help to make people's education more well rounded.

I'm not sure how much you can help her.  Sometimes people need professional help and/or medication and until they get that, they will continue to head down a road of destruction no matter what anyone else says to them.  Your friend might not be this bad.  But then again, she might be.

I'd sit down and have a serious talk with her if you already haven't.  Lay it all out for her.  Tell her everything you told us here.  Tell her that you care about her, and you want to help her, but she won't listen to you when you give her advice and it's hard for you because you are recovering from your own issues.  Tell her you want t spend time with her, but you just can't spend ALL your time with her.  See where she goes from there.  It might do no good, but at least you can say you tried.

Also, I like Enchanted's idea.  She may not be Canadian, and she may not be American, but has she checked out what options are available for students?  Maybe there is something in place for anyone currently residing in Canada as a student?

Good luck!

Susie, you are a teen.  Your bare minimum intake should be 1500 calories.  You are gaining on 900 calories because you have messed up your metabolism.  puh8suwrux and others have told you what you need to to to fix this.  It might require a bit of weight gain to correct what you've done to yourself, but that is something you will just need to accept if you want to fix this issue.

We have told you what you need to do.  It's up to you to do it.

Thanks, Kathy.  I know the "rules" say the burden is on the employer.  but it still makes me mad.  I was truthful.  And I was loyal to that company.  And i was loyal to my boss, and it just makes me angry.

Pav,  If I'm denied, I will appeal.  every Kansas person I've talked to says that I would win the appeal.  the problem is just time.  Every state is just so backed up because so many are out of work.

Just got off the phone with the Kansas claims person.  Found out that my ex employer's HR either lied or they are complete morons who don't know how to communicate.

They said I received a written warning and refused to sign!  BULL****!!

I'd never refuse to sign something that I was given.  That's just asking for them to find a reason to fire me!

I'm so mad.  So basically it will come down to their word against mine, I suppose.  I'm not a liar.

I've been told that today, the 19th, is the day that I have to stick to my phone like glue between 12:00 and 4:00 so that I can accept my scheduled call from the Kansas Department of Labor.  Apparently they need to gather info from me on my departure from my last job.  It's now 3:00 here and I'm getting antsy.  I just want my darn interview so I can stop being all stressed.  If they don't call me by 4:00 I don't know what the heck I'm supposed to do.

It'll prolly be at the last possible minute. Don't freak.

I'm sure you're right.  This is the gubment after all.

This will be the first time I will actually talk to a human from the department.  Seriously.  The call centers are so backed up, it's pointless to try to call them with any questions.  I tried.

Spending far too much of my childhood playing video games led to my graduating in the exact middle of my high school class.

The kids my son plays XBox live with are all of the engineering and AP students from our school so I don't believe playing them is the problem.

I don't know, dawg.....I've heard some of the winners my husband runs into on xBox when they randomly get paired up with strangers.  They don't all sound like the pick of the gene pool.  I think it has more to do with whether the parents just plop the kid in front of the video games all day every day, or whether there is some kind of balance between video game life and real life.
