Welcome, Jessica!  We all struggle but we are here to support each other. I encourage you to keep going to Curves.  If I could afford it, I would do that!

I haven't posted in a while.  I fell off the wagon but I have managed to get back down to 255, where I was before I fell off the wagon.

I am riding my bike to work, that's 1.7 miles one way.  That has made a HUGE difference!  My exercise show, "Body Electric" with Margaret Richards, didn't seem to be yielding much in the line of results after doing it for a year.  So, I am looking into doing yoga.  At least I will get more flexible.  But, I think the bike riding is helping me burn off more calories.

Keep your fingers crossed for me to not fall off the wagon again!

It has been brutally cold here, making my walks impossible.  Also, work has been quite chaotic, so I get home too late to drive to the mall to walk.  At least I can shovel snow by hand, which I love to do.  That burns some calories.  Once we get wind chills that aren't several degrees below zero, I'll start walking again.

I think this is why my weight is fluctuating.  The Super Bowl didn't help and my husband bought cookies.  Augghhh!  I love cookies!!  I lectured him not to do that because I just can't keep my hands off them!!

I'm down to 265 today.  I am sure the snow shoveling I did yesterday helped.  Yay!

I got to thinking about exercise and I have to share my exercise misadventure from a couple of weeks back.

I have been working out to the Body Electric TV show (it's on public broadcasting stations and hosted by Margaret Richard).  She does some work with weights.  I was trying to work to hard and used heavier weights that I should have to work my pectoral muscles (in order to help out The Ladies, who haven't been very perky in years!).

A day or so after exercising, I started having chest pains.  I have a heart condition (not related to my weight), so I went dashing off to the emergency room.  After bloodwork and an EKG, the doctor discovered that I had inflammed the cartiledge that connects my ribs to my breastbone.  The cause?  Working out with weights that were too heavy.

How weird is that?  I'm OK and I have backed down on the weights.  I guess The Ladies will have to wait on getting perky!  *snicker*

EVOO = Extra Virgin Olive Oil.  It's a term that the TV chef Rachael Ray coined.  Yeah, I like to watch the Food Network.

BTW, I walked almost a mile today.  I wimped out at 8/10 of a mile because it was about 28 degrees with a 15 mph wind and my left leg cramped up.  I came home, bundled up, and feasted on homemade split pea soup (no meat, I don't eat meat on Fridays).  Warmed me right up.  Had a nice cup of Celestial Seasonings Sugar Cookie herb tea.  It has no sugar, is all natural and tastes like sugar cookies.  Yum!

Thanks Spade & Lauren for helping me put things in perpective.  I had 2 Tablespoons of peanut butter, not like eating half a jar (hehe).

Welcome, Crystal.  I'm 5'4 but I'm 266, down from 270.  I want to get to 155 but my immediate goal is 255 so my cardiologist won't yell at me too much when I see him in March.

Melanson, if I remember right, it was either on the Calorie-Count.com website or the US Department of Agriculture nutrition site (mypyramid.gov) that gave me the figure of 1,850 intake calories a day for me to lose weight.  You might try both those sites.  Sorry that I can't remember which one.

Gack!  I had peanut butter on toast this morning.  I know I should not have done that, but it really tasted good.  Not only is peanut butter a Bad Thing to eat, but for whatever reason since I have had my gall bladder removed, I have a tough time digesting anything with peanuts.  Go figure.

Hmm, how to help motivate ourselves?  I have a lovely springtime sweater that I received for Christmas from my co-worker.  I love the colors and it feels so soft.  But, it buttons down the front and gaps badly right over my belly.  So, rather than exchange it, I have hung it up in the bedroom so each morning, I'm reminded of my "mission."  Also, even though I'm annoyed that I caved in and ate the stupid peanut butter, I'm not going to beat myself up for the rest of the day.  That's wasted energy.  I'll walk at a brisker pace this evening and push myself a little more.  If I eat the peanut butter, I need to walk it off!

I was reading everyone's goals, etc.  I want to get down to 155.  That's what I weighed in college and I looked pretty good.  I'm 5'4".

But, for right now, I want to lose 15 pounds by March.  I have a cardiologist appointment (I have a heard condition that isn't related to my weight, really) and I don't want him shagging on me about my weight.  I want to prove I can do this.

Thanks for the encouragement!

Hi muffles!  Don't freak out when people watch you work out.  You're getting strong and healthy.

I'm a big gal, weighing in at 266 (started out at 270).  I don't go to a gym because I can't afford it, but I do exercise to the Body Electric show on public television and walk 20 minutes a day.  I intend to bump up the walking as soon as I quit getting completely winded when I walk!

I guess I'm what they call "morbidly obese".  Geez, what an expression.  Anyways, I decided to lose weight because my knees hurt and I am having a tough time finding clothes.  I wasn't real excited about being that close to 300 pounds, either.

I like to eat and I have a sedentary life.  That's what did it.  It took me years to get this big, so I don't expect to lose it all real fast.  I'm pleased with a nice steady weight loss.  4 pounds so far, since January 1st.
