Hi Ktcort13, Congratulations on your Triathlons and weight loss. I too started Triathlons last year. My first was in April and I did 4 sprint races for 2007. I agree about the "eating enough cals to sustain your workouts". I found it to be very difficult. As far as balancing all of it, I don't quite have an answer except that when I keep track and count calories in and out I begin to get smaller (maybe not on the scale) but as far as how my clothes fit. My problem is when I don't keep track, I think... you can eat that peice of cake, you biked 16 miles today. I found out that thinking like that doesn't work. What are your event plans and goals for this year? I was training for a Triathlon up until May, then my father passed away and my life was turned upside down. I always told myself that if a life-changing event happened, I would not want to forego exercise. The only thing I have time for right now is running. My cousin, who is a college & high school track coach, came down for the funeral and set up a training plan for a half marathon. I've never done one but I plan to do it in November. I might be able to get my life back to a routine where I can train again for a Triathlon before the season is over. I look forward to hearing from you again. Take care. |

| Hi CC & Ohio. I can't believe you are still here. I took a calorie count break but I am going to start a new thread for athletes trying to lose a few pounds. I'm not sure if I will get a response.
It's good to see you two are still keeping this thread going. Have a great day! Tonia |

Hey Ladies, I guess you all probably thought I abandoned you again. I was sick for a week and I'm trying to adjust to this new job schedule. CC1170: Did you take the job? What did you decide? I thought the hours sounded pretty flexible. What would be a perfect schedule for you with school and everything you are doing? Maybe a job that fits into your schedule will come along. Having a little extra money feels empowering. Ohio45: I hope you are back on track. I really do think that cold weather is getting to all of you. I am blessed to be here in Florida. Tando: Sounds like you are getting along well. I started the season's TriAthlon Training this week. It feels great to get back in the pool. I've got to figure out how to incorporate more strength training. I am excited about this season because I feel very focused. I've continued to work on my compusive overeating behaviors. I'm through with the obsession about weight and food. I am just trying to "Do the Next Best Thing". I am not snacking and I am eating three meals and focusing on stopping when I am full. I decided today, no more white wine for a while. Also, no more than 5 oz of Red Wine per day. It's very easy to trade one compusive behavior for another. i.e. Get the food under control and start drinking obsessively. Have a great weekend! Remember to "Do the Next Best Thing"!!

Ohio: let us know what you learn if you go to the meetings. About the treadmill, I learned in Runner's World Mag that you can't get on the treadmill and do your regular distance. You have to break in slowly because you are using a different pronation than you use on the street. Did you break in slowly? Yesterday I got hit with the sickness junk that everyone around me has had. It came on like a ton of bricks. I haven't had the flu in so long I forgot what it was like. I am down to 143 today. 8 lbs. to go. Sticking to the three meals. It's crazy but I seem to be hungrier since I'm laying around a lot but I am still sticking to those three meals and a piece of fruit in between if hunger is unbearable.
CC1170: If I had GS cookies right now, which I love, I would save them to eat with one of my three meals and I would eat them without guilt. I love the mint ones. Just knowing they were in the house would send me to an online OA meeting. :-)
I wish I knew how Dievans was doing. I did try sending her a private message a couple of weeks ago. Has anyone heard from her?

Cc1170: here is the link to the OA meetings. click on the link and go to the meetings tab on the left. The meeting times are listed. Sometimes it takes a few minutes for people to show up. You don't have to register or give out any information, just show up and give yourself a screen name. Mine is Tally just in case you ever find me in one. Please be sure to come back and share what you learn with us. http://oa12step4coes.org/start.html

Glad to hear everyone is hanging in there. I can't imagine trying to get my workouts done in a place that is freezing. I've been in Florida all of my life and I don't like to be cold. I have a hard time getting out of bed when the house is cold. I missed my Wednesday Weigh-in but I did write it down and it was 143.4. I am at my pre-Christmas weight, thank goodness. Now I have 8.4 lbs to lose to reach my goal of 135. I am in a happy place right now. I've continued with the Twelve Steps for overeaters and also dealing with my compulsive overeating. I am still practicing the 3 meals per day and really enjoying what I eat. I am no longer stressing about "bad food". Maybe in the future I will decide to make my meals more "nutritious" but the thing I am working on is not overeating and learning what satisfied feels like. If I am really hungry between a meal then I will have an apple or piece of fruit or vegetable juice. For the first time in a long time I am not on a "diet" and it feels great. Every few days I will count my calories to make sure I'm not going off the charts with my three meals. Tandoship: you are doing great with only 2.5 pounds to go. Hang in there. At least you are are aware that you are overeating. Are you dealing with some emotional stress that is causing you to crave food? Ohio45: Do you have a Mp3 Player to take to the gym with you? I love working out to music. I helps eliminate the boredom for me. You are also doing great and coming here and confessing that you were on a self-destruct will help get you back on track. Britishsoulgirl: Welcome. I hope you keep coming back. Ohio, Tando, and CC: I think you would enjoy some of the online OA meetings. It's people just like us who struggle with the ups and downs. The other night I was lonely and wanted to consume the second glass of wine and fix myself a second plate of food but I went to the online OA meeting and felt so much better after, then I cleaned the kitchen (without licking the plates) and and treated myself to a hot bath and a good read.
Have a great day!!

| Hello Everyone, I see everyone had a chocolatey Valentine's Day. I am still here and did not fall off of the face of the earth. I've been trying to adjust to a new schedule since I started working in the family business again. I've had some great workouts the last few days: Biking on Saturday; 6.25 mi run on Sunday; Biked on Monday. I will run today and hopefully lift some weights. Everything is going well. I was down to 143.5 on Saturday morning which I have not seen that number since before Christmas. I'm back up to 145 this morning due to salt and before-the-time bloat. 145 seems to be the high point now which tells me my set point has come down to 144. I am still meeting with my COE friend and we are going through the OverEaters Annonymous steps. It is really getting to the issues behind my ability to not reach my goal. I am continuing to eat three meals per day with no snacks. I'm really getting used to it. Got to go but will check in tomorrow with my Wednesday weigh-in. Have a great day! Toniahayes |

Welcome, Sandra. I'm not sure what you are doing. How tall are you? Are you keeping track of calories? If so, how many are you consuming per day? Do you exercise?
Ohio45: The one thing that I am learning is, like Tandosnip, 3 meals per day. If I am real hungry between meals than I will have one piece of fruit. OA advocates practicing abstinence, that is, abstinence from compulsive overeating. That is what I am trying to do. I've always read that you should eat 5 small meals per day, but I don't think that has been working for me since I eat compulsively and I am learning what hunger and full mean. It's also easier to keep the calories when you only have to record them 3 times instead of 5 or more. Where is CC and Dievans? |

Mandi,
I made a typo on 2/1/2008 weigh-in
It should have read 146.8 instead of 148.8. This was the weigh-in:
Weigh-in for 2/1/2008: 148.8 Seems to be the magic number last weigh-in 1/25/2008: 146.8 Here is the correction: Weigh-in for 2/1/2008: 146.8 Seems to be the magic number last weigh-in 1/25/2008: 146.8 I apologize for the inconvenience.

Hi Everyone, Glad to hear that everyone is on the mend. I wonder where Dievans is and how her foot is doing? It's been a busy weekend and week. I started a new/old job this week so I am trying to readjust all of my schedules and find time for exercise. Wednesday Weigh-In: I am down to 144.6 today. Down (-1.4) lbs.from last Wednesday's weigh-in. I have 10.1 lbs. to go to reach my goal. I have determined to get this compulsive eating under control with the help of my Higher Power. I've started attending a weekly COE group and also meeting with an exercise partner to tackle the Compulsive Overeating Issues. It's taken me awhile to admit that I do binge eat. I never looked at eating a whole bag of combos on the way home from the grocery store as binge eating until now. I am really trying to learn what is true hunger. I am also trying to learn what feeling full feels like. I am also trying to learn not to obsess about food or weight. Boy, do I have a lot to learn. I did a 4 mile 10/1 run/walk split last night to start preparing for my 5K in March. Ohio45: Great job on the running. I remember when I started and I ran 1/4 of a 1/4 mile and was exhausted. Stick with it and it will pay off. I love the runners high that I get. The first mile is always the hardest no matter how long you've been running. Even marathoners tell me that the first mile is the hardest of every run. One of the reasons why people quit running is they dread that 1st mile so much. Have a great day! |

| Bendgirl: With the exercise in the am and an hour walk in the evening, the 1400 calories might not be enough. You might up it to 1600 and see what happens. Our bodies hold onto weight if we don't get enough calories. | |||

Wednesday Weigh-in: 146 (down 2.8 lbs. from two weeks ago) still up 1.5 lbs from the beginning of this forum on June 4th, 2006 which was 144.5. I do feel like I am on the downward trend which is encouraging. This means that I now have 11.5 lbs. to go instead of the 10 lbs. I did break the 140 mark at one point but threw caution to the wind during the Holidays. Now I am really paying for it. This year I will make it a point to be aware of all of the possible set backs and make a definite plan to avoid relapses. Dievans: I feel sad about your foot. I had an arch problem at one time that was unexplainable. Could it be time for some new workout shoes? When did you replace them last? I do pray it is not serious. CC1170: Sorry about your illness. I can't imagine not being hungry. I guess it's not a pleasant way to lose weight. Get well soon. We all need to keep up with our Vit C. I take 4000 mil. daily especially this time of year. Right now our hospitals are full in our area and they are turning people away. Today: Will run in pm weather permitting. Keeping calories within the 1500 range. Have a great day! |

| Di- I hope you get to the bottom of the foot problem soon.
Ohio45: The sinus thing sounds like a bummer. I pray you get over it soon. Went to a funeral yesterday, it was the longest funeral I've ever been to and one of the largest. I knew ahead of time that I would probably stress eat after and that is exactly what I did. My husband and I went to a restaurant and ate Prime Rib. I tried to make up for it the rest of the evening by having a grapefruit and a bowl of cereal and going for a 45 minute walk. I'll see if I did any damage when I step on the scale this morning. Today: My plan is to run this evening. Consume 1500 calories today. Hope all is well with Cc1179, Tando, Abi_wj, and madhul2002 |

Chatty noel: As far as exercise goes, sometimes I can get my heartbeat up just by doing housework. I have a heart rate monitor that I put on along with my headset and I see how many calories I can burn doing house work. You can pick up a moniter for about $100.00 at SportsAuthority or a place like that. The strap goes around your lower chest. The idea behind aerobics is that you keep your heart rate up for at least 20 mins. It would be interesting to see how many calories you burn with you job if you are on your feet all day. Saturday: too cold for biking. Did a house work workout. Sunday: Ran 4 miles in am. Overall I ate sensible all weekend but did not count calories. My Plan for today: Keep track of calories and keep at 1600. Walk 45 minutes. List your greatest challenge and how you will overcome that challenge. No great challenges today that I can foresee except I am going to a funeral and may tend to stress eat. I will plan to have a salad makings in the refridge for that purpose. Consequences or rewards: I didn't shop on Friday, I ran out of time. I will go shopping tomorrow if I meet my goals today. |

| Ohio45: Make me laugh why don't you :-) :-) Can you imagine that? All of us kicking our healthy eating and exercise out the door to lay on the couch and drink :-0
I've heard that it's 5 oz of Red Wine that they have found is beneficial and that more than that is counter-productive. I've temporarily quit white wine because it's hard for me to stop at 5 oz. DiEvans: Thanks for the compliment. I found it easier to get the photo up using CC Plus instead of the CC Classic. I just put the photo on my "Desktop" and when it said "browse", then I went to desktop and uploaded it. I do workout with partners as much as possible. My neighbor has become one of my best workout partners. We run together and sometimes bike. My husband works out with me and I have a couple of others that I am able to meet from time to time. Sometimes to break it up, I go to group exercise at the gym. I really enjoy it when I do but it dosen't always fit into my schedule. Abi: Yes, please join us. You should be so proud of the weight loss. I'm am sad that you had an accident that set you back so far. It must be a challenge to get 50 lbs off but you are doing it and should be so happy with your success. |

Ohio:Bless your heart! I am listening to you and I am so sad that people around us can't be supportive of our weight loss plans. I'll never forget the time I went to a friend's house and she made this decadent brownie pie and home-made ice cream. I felt like she went through so much trouble that I took a piece even though I was trying desperately to lose weight. Right after I filled my plate I notice she wasn't having any, so I asked her why. Her response was that she was cutting back in order to fit into her bathing suit. It made me sick because she already had a killer body. Just know we are cheering you on! Cc: I agree with Tando, you do sound like yourself again. Welcome back!! Tando: Thanks for sharing the book info. So far today I've stayed within my calories. I left the house early for a bike-ride only to get to my destination and realize we were under-dressed for the weather. My friend and I used the time to go over this book we are reading called "Love Hunger" about Compulsive Over Eating. I also went to an OA Online meeting last night. I really think that I need a program like that. I was recently reviewing all of the diets I've been on and the failures. It's not as if I am trying to get to my high-school weight. I just want to shed 10 lbs. to be more comfortable on many levels. Anywhy, I enjoyed the meeting. I think I'll take the dogs for a walk this evening and do some stretches. Have a wonderful evening everyone. |

I wish you success with the weight over the weekend. You can do it! Tando: Thanks for sharing the title of that book. What's the difference between obsessing. When I stopped what I considered obsessing, I gained the weight back. I would love to have a great relationship with food. Maybe you can share somemore of the book with us. | Yesterday: Met calorie goal; Walk/ran 4 mi. in the morning and walked forty-five minutes in the evening instead of pilates. I still have to clean the file drawer from Monday. I think I will start setting extra exercise as my consequences, although my file drawers could use some cleaning.
My challenge for yesterday was Red Lobster. We got there and it was too crowded so we went to Steak n Shake. I ordered a salad from their lighter menu. My son ordered french fries which are my weakness. I managed to eat only a few and counted them in my calorie allotment. French fries are another challenge when I eat out with my son. My Plan for today: Go to the gym for a weight workout. Upper and lower body. Plan for tomorrow: Bike 12 miles; 1600 calories List your greatest challenge and how you will overcome that challenge. Today I am going out to lunch with a friend. The restaurant serves Quiche which I love. I will look up the calories to see if I can manage it. If not, I will snack healthily before I go and order soup. Consequences or rewards: If I meet all of my goals for today I get to shop for that new blouse on Friday. If I don't meet my goals today I will walk for forty-five minutes tonight. |

Hey, I finally figured out how to put a picture up. This was my first 10k. I was about 5 lbs heavier then. Ohio45:Yes, I do beleive I need to do pilates or yoga. What has been helping is that I know I'm not dying, like I thought at first. Also, taking my suppliments and reducing stress has helped. The thing I think is helping most is taking pysillium every evening before bed. I read that fiber carries excess estogen out of the body and that's the only explanation I have for why it is working. I really do believe it is hormonal and stress related. I did four triathlons last year and I know they probably put excess stress on my body along with other stress events. I didn't really take care of myself when I went to Santa Fe and I believe the stress of a different time zone, drinking too much, and the heavy tri training sent me over the edge. My first attack was when I got back after a 1 1/2 hr swim at 5:30 AM and then a four mile run. I had the first attack that night. My doctor thought it was electrolytes... the next attack wasn't until one month later.
Dievans: Maybe we can declare February Clean Eating Month. I would be up for that. I just eliminated caffeine from my diet. Would love to cut out sugar and I really need to be eating hormone free meat. I drink soy and and horm/antibiotic free milk. Cc1170: I'm relieved that you figured out what was going on. It's times like these that we learn to cut out everything unnecessary. Hope you are feeling yourself again soon. Weigh-in: 146.8 down -2lbs from last week. I still can't beleive I got up to 148.8. That was depressing! I just have to remember that I put it on quickly and it will come off quickly. Today: walk/ran 4 miles in am; going for 45 min walk this evening. Have a great night!! |

| Pgeorgian: Are you "chiming in" or would you like to join in with us? As far as consequences, yes I agree, they are built in but.... and that's a big butt, my reasoning for them is that knowing that I was not going to fit into my jeans if I ate that bag of chips never stopped me. Knowing I have to go clean a file drawer or some other consequence may be enough to get me to put the bag down.
Consequences are not mandatory but they just might help some of us. :-) Toniahayes |

I need to do more of that :-) Yesterday: Met goal of 1500 calories; Did my forty-five minute workout but skipped the upper body. I guess I'll be cleaning that file drawer today. Weigh-in : today's weigh-in 146.8 this will be my starting weight My Plan for today: Walk/run 4 miles (already completed); Pilates workout either home or gym ; 1500 calories Plan for tomorrow: Bike 12 miles; 1600 calories List your greatest challenge and how you will overcome that challenge. Today is date day with my 17 year old son and we usually eat out. I will drink lots of water before going and take him to Red Lobster so I can eat shrimp cocktail and a salad. I will not have the cheese bread. Consequences or rewards: If I meet all of my goals for today and tomorrow, I will treat myself to shopping. If I don't meet my goals, I will clean two file drawers on Friday. |

| My first Post: First Weigh-in: 147.2 My Plan: My plan is to lose one pound per week. I will weigh 137.2 by April 1, 2008. I will keep calories between 1400- 1600 daily depending on exercise expenditure. I will workout 5-6 days per week. I will set some race (5k, 10k and Triathlon) goals to keep me motivated to workout. Today: I will keep calories at 1500. I will walk for 45 minutes and will go to the gym for an upper body workout. Greatest challenge and how I will overcome that challenge: since I didn't workout first thing this morning, it will be easy to find a ton of things to do to distract me from getting to the gym. I will set a time now (3:00) to go to the gym. I will keep this appointment. Consequence: If I skip my workout or don't stay within my calories, I will clean out an entire file drawer tomorrow. Reward: I will take a nice, hot bath and give myself a salt scrub this evening for a reward for keeping today's goals. |
