Yeah, I've noticed a lot of water weight gain especially when I switch colors...but it seems to be improving lately.  I can tell it's water weight because my fingers swell and my rings don't fit as well.  but it's going down.

But if you study chemistry or biology, you will see that your body can rearrange the molecules of fat, protein, and carbs so that they're basically interchangable.  You can store protein as fat just as you can store carbs or fat as fat.  It is just a matter of how the molecules are arranged.  So I'd have to say I disagree with you...it's probably better to just eat a balanced diet.  Eating a high fat, low carb diet is bad for your heart anyway.

This is stuff I used to eat a lot but don't any more:

-Frozen cool whip (soo good!)
-baby carrots dipped in cream cheese
-milk poured over my ice cream
-Raw tortelini (the cheese kind)
-Cold chicken nuggets (that had been cooked, but had been in the fridge overnight
-a bowl of cereal with a huge amount of peanut butter stirred in
-slices of deli ham w/ cream cheese spread on them and rolled up
-mustard on potato chips (but only the ruffles kind)
-One time I ate sweet potatoes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner for a week straight (and ate nothing else besdies that); also did the same thing with cooked spinach once (BAD idea...never try this...hahaha); also did this w/ cereal once
-I can eat a whole entire box of Cinnamon life (actually I could probably eat about 12 entire boxes lol) in one sitting.....fortunately I DON'T
-ketchup on white rice; ketchup on maccaroni and cheese
-tuna salad with chocolate chips (don't ask...I used to crave this like crazy)
-once i ate 2 cans of sardines and a pound of baby carrots for lunch because I was craving it like crazy

Oh and I will only put pepper on foods that are white, orange, or yellow.

Ok I'm done.  I'm a weirdo.

Foods Protein???? Apr 20 2007

Clif Bar makes a really really yummy protein bar.  My favorite is the Peanut Butter one.  Tastes like a candy bar but has 25 grams of protein.  (And 270ish cals I think)
Weight Loss Is too much fiber bad for you? Apr 20 2007
00:39 (UTC)
I read in a nutrition textbook once that too much fiber creates these "fiber balls" in your intestines (can't remember the scientific name).  These "fiber balls" can block your GI tract.  You have to eat a TON of fiber for this to be problematic though.  I eat 30 grams or so every day and have never had a problem.

I always wash all produce, even if it's marked washed.  I read somewhere that sometimes the washing machines can get "gunk" in them and spread e-coli.  I don't know how true it is, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.  This bug story has made me even happier that I wash everything though!  Usually I just buy the regular stuff rather than the pre-washed, because I know I'm going to wash it myself anyway.

Foods How do you do your Steel Cut Oats? Apr 11 2007

joeschmoe, do you refrigerate them or freeze them?  I used to buy frozen steelcut oats from Trader Joes that you just pop into the oven.  But it was so expensive and they only came 2 servings per box.  So I stopped buying them.  It was so convenient, though, and I never thought of doing it myself ahead of time and then freezing or refrigerating them...
Foods Anyone allergic to wheat????? Mar 07 2007

Hey...I don't actually have a full allergy, but I'm very sensitive to gluten.  My stomach gets pretty upset if I eat a lot of it.  I just tend to avoid it, but it's hard where I'm a student and don't have much time or money to invest in cooking gluten-free meals.  However...you might want to try some recipes using quinoa, which is a gluten-free whole grain.  You can also buy gluten-free flour and bake things from scratch using that.  I agree with you about the packaged stuff being mostly crap (tastes like crap and is generally bad for you).  I do, however, really like Puffin's cereal, Vans makes a really good toaster waffle that is gluten-free, also all of the Cliff Bar brand things are wheat free.  Other than that, I usually just eat a lot of oatmeal, wild rice, and quinoa.  (And fortunately for me...I CAN get away with eating gluten things every now and then, but I try to avoid it in general).  Good luck!

If you're going to eat Quaker oatmeal, try the weight control kind.  It has extra protein and fiber to keep you fuller longer.  I also like Organic Oat's & Flax instant oatmeal from Trader Joe's.  Steel cut oatmeal is probably the best for you, but I haven't been able to find any that is instant, and I just don't have time to stand over the stove and stir for 20 minutes.  ;-)

I don't have any articles to send to you...I do have textbooks though (psychology major), and I would be happy to talk to you if you want, because I am dealing with binge eating & bulimia and have been for years.

Motivation Why Binge? Feb 10 2007

Enjoying foods you like in moderation is not a bad thing.  But binging and "paying for it later" is very dangerous behavior.  That kind of behavior is classified as "non-purging bullimia nervosa," which means that you binge, but you don't purge (i.e. throw up, use laxatives, etc) to get rid of the calories.  Non-purging bullimia is not only psychologically damaging, but it's physically damaging as well.  I struggle with non-purging bullimia also, but I'm working on overcoming it....so if anyone would like to talk, I know what you're going through!  But there are ways of overcoming it.  It takes time, and I really think it's a life-long process, but it is possible!
Foods How to lose weight while eating chocolate everyday! Feb 10 2007

I like Chocolate or Chocolate Peanut Butter Clif Builder Bars.  They have 270 calories, but they also have 20 grams of protein.  So if I eat one for breakfast on my way to the gym (yes...chocolate for breakfast!!), the protein fuels my workout and keeps me full....and I get my chocolate fix all at once.  They're also full of tons of vitamins!
Weight Loss Ladies: Does this happen to you too? Jan 28 2007
14:44 (UTC)
Yes!  It's very frustrating!  I can't do anything to make it stop entirely, however, I have found that if I actually drink MORE water, it makes the bloating go away.  So, about 10 days before my period is supposed to start, I decrease my sodium intake, drink extra water to flush out the extra bloat, and decrease my intake of things that are dehydrating (like coffee, alcohol, etc).  It doesn't make it go away entirely, but it helps a lot.  I can definitely relate to your frustration though, because I feel like I'm bloated for about half of the month, because it starts literally 10 days before my period starts, and continues through the 1st 3 days of my period!  It's definitely discouraging!!
Motivation Venting about Rude People Jan 24 2007

People are so rude!  Don't these people know you're not supposed to volunteer negative comments like that?  I'm in college, and I recently had a guy in my school tell me that I looked like a fat little kid.  People don't realize how damaging these comments are to people...  I'm a recovered anorexic, and while I have gained some weight in the past 2 years, I know that I'm still not fat.  I'm 5'2" and weighed around 125 before I started this program.  I lost 5 pounds on my own and weighed 120 when i began using this site.  Now I weigh 117.  I'm trying to lose some of the weight and just be healthy now (not so much weight as inches I guess), but comments like that really tend to set you back.  People should be careful what they say to other people, because you never know who's struggling with something like this, and comments like that are very damaging.
