I love this post! A bunch of fun-loving, like minded drinkards! Yes we need a name. I think I'm going to rent the Dorothy Parker movie too, she sounds pretty fabulous. I'm a Miller Lite drinker too. I have one in my refridgerator leftover from last weekend. I can't believe it is still there! This is day 1 of my second week and I haven't had a single drink (but I'm living vicariously through you guys! "It only takes one drink to get me drunk. The trouble is, I can't remember if it's the thirteenth or fourteenth." "A man's gotta believe in something, I believe I'll have another drink!" - WC Fields |

Wow, I was off for a day and look what happened to this group! How cool. Welcome fellow drinkers (abstainers)! I think that eating sharp cheddar cheese with red wine is better than chocolate. I love my "crisps" with beer instead of wine. But who cares, they are all good together right! I too can polish off a bottle of wine in one eveneing. I too eat reasonably well otherwise, so I'm sure the alcohol is my wight problem. I'm on day 6 and have already lost 6 pounds. I'm 46 years old, have two boys ages 12 and 9, am currently at 183 lbs. I decided to boycott the whole weekend at my mother-in-laws! How selfish of me. I sent my husband and two boys without me. Glad to be part of this fun loving group! Thanks pg for starting it. I'm going to add all of you to my friends list too. Til later! |

elttiks, just keep coming back here and posting! I like having fellow drinkers to chat with. I used to have a few beers or a few glasses of wine and an occassional margarita. I think if you cut back to just on Saturday's you'll be fine. I've been alcohol free for five days (granted they have all been weekdays and now I'm going into a VERY challenging weekend). I have lost about 5 pounds already! I know that part of the weight loss is because of cutting out my beverages, but I've also been walking a lot for exercise and changing my eating pattern. pgeorgian, I'll keep coming back. Thanks for keeping this thread alive. Congratulations on the weight loss! BTW, why do Sunday's suck? Wish me luck this weekend, I have to go to my mother-in-laws for her husbands birthday party. I don't like either one of them and I usually deal with it by drinking and eating too much. |

Going into the weekend! Good luck ladies - stay strong. I won't be able to check in until Monday because I'll be traveling. Wish me luck, though because I'm going to my mother-in-laws for her husbands birthday party. There's bound to be a lot of good food, plus the stress of visiting them makes me want to eat and especially drink. Skye |

yah I hate those complainers too. It also irks me when someone says they don't "diet". Call it what you want, "healthier lifestyle", "new eating habits"... I still don't get to eat and drink what I want when I want! After typing that I realize that I called this my "healthy living campaign" so I'm a little bit of a hypocrite...woops. But enough complaining. Makambo is right, short term goals. My current short-term goal is to do 1000 minutes in the exercise challenge. Have you guys been there yet? It's pretty cool. In this one you say how many minutes you're going to exercise in January, then you try to meet it. The numbers are up there for everyone to read, so it keeps you on track. The other one I liked, but didn't like, was the Biggest Loser challenge. (I did it last year.) Anyone who wants to participate lets the forum leader know. Then they are split into groups. You have to weigh in every week... just like the television show. My problem was I wasn't losing any weight. I was too embarrassed to put in +1, so I dropped out. Didn't come back for a year... Anyway, those challenges are pretty good ways to stay motivated. We can all do it! If at first you don't succeed, try try try again. (I just love trite cliches.) |

Welcome Tracy! I'm glad you found the site. I find it helps me stay on track because everyone is so supportive, unlike your SIB! Take baby steps each day and before you know it you've gone a mile. Happy Birthday! |

How about this one...I took off my wedding ring because it was too tight. This was a month ago, and there STILL is an indentation on my finger where it was where the fat grew around it. But there's more! When I got the wedding band, which is a family hereloom, it was WAY TOO BIG! I had to keep it on with the engagement ring. I took the engagement ring off years ago when it became too small. |

I LOVE beer. I (used to) drink it every day. Two years ago I belonged to one of those weight loss programs. I tried substituting the beer calories for others and was VERY strick about my calorie intake. I was exercising constantly with the idea, "if I walk 20 more minutes, I can have 2 beers instead of just one!" But, guess what, the weight just wasn't coming off. I blamed the program. I read somewhere (in this forum maybe?) that alcohol slows down the metabolism and that beer especially puts on the pounds. D@*#! I think that people who are at a normal weight may get benefits from that single beer or glass of wine at dinner, but people like me who need to lose more than 50 pounds should not drink alcohol and once you are at normal weight, drink only occassionally. By the way, I'm on only day two of my alcohol abstention and healthier lifestyle with the objective of losing weight. So it remains to be seen if cutting the alcohol helps me! It's HARD because I am used to having a drink or two every day. |

Today I asked my 9 year old son if he would be more proud of me when I am a normal weight. He replyed, "Yes" then "Your not fat." I looked at him with surprise and said "You're just saying that because you want brownie points" and he just nodded his head. |

Hi makambo! Thanks for replying. I added you to my buddy list. I think that the reason I didn't stay on last year was because no one was expecting me to. So if we expect to hear from eachother, we'll have to log on to stay accountable. And it is EASY to be accountable to friends. so thanks for finding me! I walked twice yesterday for about 30 minutes each time. But I overslept today so I'll have to get a walk in a little late. The one beer post was a year ago! I didn't have ANY yesterday and I won't today, or tomorrow, or hopefully never again and if so, only once in a blue moon. I do have a problem with alcohol and I believe that it is the main contributer to my weight problem. I REALLY LOVE beer, but I read that on top of converting to sugar it also slows down your metabolism (as does all alcohol)- so it is OFF LIMITS now. How did you do yesterday? Any ideas on how you're going to bring in extra money? Looking forward to staying in touch. We can DO THIS! Skye |

| Weight Loss | What salt REALLY does to your body... | Jan 08 2008 14:07 (UTC) |

| I was just wondering this morning what the big deal about sodium is. I've usually ignored my sodium intake because I din't think I was taking in much; I never use salt. It amazes me to see how much sodium is in ordinary things. | |||

| I used to weigh myself all the time, but not seeing much result discouraged me too much. (There is not much weight change in only 4 hours.) Now I weigh in only once a week. It feels better to see a couple pounds register on the scale. | |||

Thanks. I don't know if 47 is early or normal. I've got an appointment with my OB/GYN next week. I just thought maybe my fat didn't help. I agree, age is a state of mind - but also of body. My mind still feels young, but my body is beginning to turn on me! It's harder to lose weight and maintain a healthy weight. Going through menopause sucks. I'm sure my extra weight is contributing to stiffness. And to top it off, I now need reading glasses! I'm committed to having a healthier lifestyle to minimize my body's betrayal and to help my mind be right! |

| I'm up to 1125 minutes of 1500. Don't think I'm going to get in 375 minutes today, so I didn't meet my challenge, but I look at it this way, I did more than I would have if I didn't have this challenge going on.
I'll make it in February! |

| I'm 45 years old and 5'2". I'm over 60 lbs overweight. Most of my extra weight is in my boobs and belly. I have NO butt. My calves are like tree trunks, but I think they are more muscle than anything. Probably from carrying around all that upper body weight. I HATE that I can never find clothes that fit right.
I just started using turbo jam - I bought into the whole package from an infomercial and spent about $150. It came with a booklet to keep track of your workouts, the ""Metabolic Fat Fighter", and extra workouts. So far it's OK. I can really feel it, in fact I'm sore. |

| I'd like to say it's because I want to be around a long time for my kids, but the real reason is, I don't want them to be embarrased by me.
I also fantasize about being attractive to men (like I used to be) other than my husband, even though I would never cheat. The photo taken of me at the Christmas party was ugly. I couldn't believe my eyes. I want to be able to waterski with my family. The last time I tried, I couldn't stay in position, the fat made me float. |
