Weight Loss 60 lbs. to lose club... anyone want to join?--- Sorry group is closed Sep 24 2007

Is it too late for me to join?  I've been doing Calorie Count since January and dropped 45 pounds so far.  However, in the past month or two, I have been wavering back and forth between losing and gaining 4 pounds.  I've gotten lazy with keeping my journal entries and watching the calories.  The other forum I was in became a bit boring and I found this one this morning and I am very interested in everyone's writings.  I still need to lose 75 pounds (which would be the "ideal" weight), but am really shooting for 60 more pounds which would be the most practical.  What I am confused about is that people at work and my family tell me I really don't need to lose any more weight because I look great now.  I disagree. I am a fan of small weight loss goals and need to get back on track.  I too am a big fan of Kashi products especially the flax cereal. I munch on that when I get the munchies or put it on top of toast with peanut butter, sprinkle in yogurt. There are lots of Kashi products out there. I would be grateful if you can add me into your group.  Today's weight is 210.  Mini goal for me is 200 by end of October.  Then 10 pounds every other month (maybe 6-8 pounds).  I need to get back my motivation before I start going the other way.

Microbean:   I started this club at 252 on Jan. 3.  As of today, I have lost 37 pounds.  My goal weight is 145.  I never in my life, until I joined this forum, counted calories.  I always thought "boo hoo" to that.  But since counting calories, I have learned how to eat better because I look for what fills me up more.  Stay away from the empty calories.  I go for fiber -- good tasting fiber.  I love the Kashi products.  May be higher in calories, but the fiber is also high and that not only keeps you full for a longer period of time, it also is great in pushing the foods out of your body better.  Eating fiber first before other foods helps the eliminate them.  Now, when I screw up with eating the wrong foods, I tend to not feel so good.  I think its because I have eliminated a lot of the fatty foods I used to eat all the time.  No more fried foods -- once in a while, but I go for the grilled now.  And this forum has helped me so much. I don't post very often, but I read everyone's comments every day and those comments truly truly truly keep me on track.  You can do this.

Thanks Stinky and Bonkerr for your thoughts.  I do plan to have veggie juices with me today so I will have some calorie intake.

Bonkerr:  I've done the crazy thing before too since I travel in my job and am gone as long as a week where 3 big meals are put in front of me every day and all the food is rich. Have to partake due to mingling responsibilities.  Even though I know I shouldn't eat all of the stuff in front of me, I do and usually come home gaining 5-7 pounds that week. But the next week, I do extra exercising (aerobics) at least every other day and make sure I measure out my foods and keep an eye on the calorie intake.  Each time, I have lost the 5-7 pounds and then the next week I am back at losing a pound a week, which is what I want to do.  I don't want to stress my body by starving it either.  Or that will make me go crazy.  I also try to come to this site every day to get the inspiration I need to stick with it.

Any replies to my "fasting" note?

Any advice on fasting?  I want to fast this coming Thursday (from midnight Wednesday to midnight Thursday) drinking fruit juices, veggies juices and water.  This is strictly in regards to a day of prayer, not for weight loss.  I have been losing steadily on this site and I don't want to screw up my metabolism.  So my question is, if I fast for one day, will my metabolism get messed up enough that when I go back to eating the next day, it will make me gain or something else?  I try to limit myself to 1200 calories a day, but go over from time to time and that works for me.  But I am concerned if I should fast -- even if only for one day.  Does anyone have any advice on this?

To Cleigh1:  I started here at 252 also -- at the beginning of this year.  To date, I have lost 30 pounds and I am so happy to have gotten this far.  Even though I have another 70 or so pounds to lose, I know that my coming to this site, I will be able to do it.  I understand what Stinky means when he says the first 20 are the hardest and the easiest.  Because you're changing your lifestyle eating habits.  They will change, slowly, but they will.  The biggest change I've noticed is that I don't want to eat "empty calories" which I never knew what that was until I found this place. I wish I had listened to all those calorie counting people years ago and started teaching myself about calories and metabolism.  Now I'm education about - not totally, but getting there.  Just keep reading the postings in the various forums because everyone's strength lies in their words and I find that to be a great help to me in continuing to go forward.  To the next 5 pounds and beyond!!!!

Yay I hit my first goal mark of 25 pounds.  Finally, now to reach my next goal.  I feel better, clothes fit better.  Something I laugh to myself about is that people at work look at me and say "that color really looks good on you."  I've been wearing the same clothes and colors so I'm guessing they don't notice a weight loss or they don't want to notice the weight loss and choose the color comment instead.  To be fair, 1 person did mention the loss, but no one else. Probably since I was so big it is hard to notice at first.  I've got 85 more to go.  I'm taking it a step at a time but I feel good that I managed to get this far.  Gives me more strength to go on.  I have to thank all of you for posting about your plans.  Those comments are what has given me the real strength to do this.  I don't think I could have gotten this far without this forum.

Its great to see all of us in the same boat who needs the support from this forum.  This place is really helping me.  Even though I don't post very often, I read the posts every day just to get the motivation from everyone else. Without this, it would be harder to focus on a goal.  I can't wait to get out of the 200s too.  Just getting out of the 250s and then ekeing out of the 240s felt so good. I can only imagine what I will feel when I remove that "2" in front of my weight numbers.  Thanks everyone for all your motivation.

I have a question for anyone.  If I eat 315 calories for breakfast, then work out for 35 minutes (aerobics) which equals burning 510 calories, does that mean I just wiped out the calories I ate for breakfast and so I'm really at a negative number for the moment?  Not sure if that's how it works.  Can someone tell me?  Thanks.

Wots_next:  I belive I am also a food addict. Whenever I come home, I head for the frig to see what I can pick on. I was doing this everytime I came home, whether it was from work, from running to the store real quick, whatever. And that was bugging me. Then I realized one day why I do that. When I was a kid, every day when I came home from school, my mom would have something ready for me to eat -- usually home baked cookies. Always the yummy stuff that was fattening. Although we didn't think about those things back then (I'm in my 50s). I found I had to change my way of thinking and start preparing stuff ahead of time that I could pull from the freezer or frig to munch on (2T of lowfat whipped cream stuffed between 2 graham crackers (and then frozen) makes a good quick snack). Being a food addict is hard. Buffets are a downfall. Now I try to stay away from them. I've only been on this site for 2 weeks and counting calories, which I have never done. Its worked for me so far and I dropped a lot of weight already just in these little 2 weeks but I do believe its from watching the calories.  I strive to get an A+ everyday. Or at least an A. Its hard, but fun trying. Just keep up with this forum, reading everyone's goals and thoughts. It really helps.  I make myself read the blogs at least twice a day to keep giving me strength to do this. This is a great site.  And welcome.  Also welcome to bschance.

I too got bored with Weight Watchers, especially in the holiday season.  I just can't say no to Christmas cookies.  Then the first week of this year, I came across this site just by searching for how many calories are in Wasabi nuts.  I started reading the forums and going thru the site then decided to try it.  I have never counted calories in my life.  Just looked for low fat foods and did the points thing with WW.  Counting calories is great.  I watch the amount of my intake and then can't wait to see what my grade/analysis is at the end of the day.  I find myself really trying for an "A".  I also do the WW points thing just for comparison purposes.  And it works pretty much to the same amount of food.  When I was doing WW, I was just consumed with how much food I could each for the points.  This way here with this site, I count the calories and am eating more food, but better food, and losing weight.  I've lost 10 pounds since the first of the year and feel great and mostly feel great because of the forums.  Just another 110 pounds to go.

I connect everyday to see what people have written.  This place gives me so much encouragement because so many people feel the same way I do.  It will be one week on Wednesday that I started here.  And I can't believe how counting calories really helps.  It gives me a goal and is sort of a competition to see if I can reach that goal of so many calories per day (or rather not go past the alloted calories per day).   I found on a couple of days that I was well under my alloted calories but I was full.  Do I still need to eat the total amount of cals. per day to keep my metabolism rolling well or is it okay to not eat if not hungry but yet under the number.

Wow!  I found a site that is making me feel a whole lot better already just from reading everyone's postings. Even though I know there are other heavy people out there just like me, I still felt like I was the only one. I've been reading the postings and everyone's thoughts are giving me encouragement to lose the 120 pounds I need to get rid of. I'm weighing in at 252 (a steady number for the past few years) and want to get rid of it so I can feel good about myself again and hold my head up, wear some clothes that make me look good, dance again, start dating again.  Ready, set, go.
