I feel the same way Colleen.  I have been in the 160 club for too long.  My goal is 140lbs.  I haven't weighed myself in a couple of days and I am trying to hold off until next Monday.  My goal for today, drink all of my water.  I know that if I can do that the pounds will start to come up more easily.

Good luck everyone.  WE can do it!!
Motivation anybody giving things up for Lent? Feb 22 2007

I am Catholic (I actually work for a Catholic organization :)), but I have never been successful at the whole giving up stuff.  I have already stopped my insessant crazings for sweets and bad foods so I can't do that. I don't drink a lot or drink any coke, so thats out too.  What I think I will do is challenge myself to stick to my diet and reach my healthy weight.  This means I have to drink my water, eat healthy and get up in the morning (like 5ish) to work out.  Guess I'm kinda giving up sleep ... hehe.  But it will work ... for the sacrificing part of lent is to stop the "me, me, me" mentality society today seems to have.

So, now I don't just have my friends asking how the "diet" is going, I'll have God to keep me accountable.   I better stick to it this time.

:)

I'm back on track today with tracking, etc. I've adjusted my goal to be more realistic and attainable.  I bought a dress the other day for the gala dinner I am coordinating.  The dress is kinda tight and will look ten times better if I slim down and shape up a bit.  Because I know I can do it (can becuase the dress was 80% reduced) I bought it.  Thats my new motivation now.  Who cares about the scale.  Fit into the dress.

Lets keep going!!

I've come to the conclusion that the reason I'm not getting anywhere with my weight loss is that I'm not drinking enough water and am not exercising enough.  I am goign to start again tomorrow.  Everything is fitting better and I don't want to stop ...

Keep up the good work everyone!

Hey colleen and sarah, the weight fluxtuation thing is so me, especially the week before and the week during that specific time of the month.  I'm in that whole right now ... I can go up anywhere between 5 and 10 pounds.  It is all water retention.  I've uped my water and been really really careful with my food and even though I am retaining water, the weight is still slowly dropping.  So if at the end of this week the scale reads what it did before I'll be happy. But if it reads less, I'll be thirlled.

Keep up the good work!

Welcome ffwl!  How is everyone else doing.  Our chattiness seems to have died down of late.  I'm still sitting at just under 165 ... though thiis week and next are the two weeks out of the month where I refuse to weigh myself as my weight will fluxtuate alot.  Even with the added water weight I carry this week, I did loose 1 or 2 pounds this week ... so I'm still on track.  Here's hoping it will continue when I get over this hump.

Yesterday I was having a total munchies day. But I made it through. At work I took my mind off it by drinking more water.  At home I cleaned ... it got my mind of the mouth and tummy and it resulted in my appartment being much tidier. It's a win-win situation.

Keep up the good work everyone!!

Hey planner2582, I went through the same thing with my friends at the beginning.  The worst was my boyfriend, who as an Italian doesn't think I eat enough.  I just kept turning him down for snacks and stuff and he's gotten the message now, especially cause he sees how happy I am with what I've lost so far.

Today I'm sitting at 163.  Its slowly coming off. My pants fit so much better now, my bras are starting to get loose (and the straps are constantly falling off -- I sooo hate that!!) and everything is fitting better.  I had a function to attend at work and was stopped by a colleague, asked if I had lost weight, and told that it definately shows!!! WOOHOO!!

The Gala Dinner I'm planning is in 11 weeks.  I calculated how much I would need to loose to get myself to the weight I was two years ago and it works out to 2.5 lbs a week.  Seeing that I've been loosing around 2 to 3 a week min, I so can do this.  So, sticking to my 'new lifestyle' now.

Keep it up everyone!!!  We're getting there!!!

Hey everyone.   I'm still here.  Eating healthy and exercising away.  The scale hasn't moved however from where it sat last week at 165.  But, I have two theories why: 1) I'm putting on muscle weight.  My tummy is definately more defined and tighter, and I've lost an average of 1.5 inches on my waist and hips!  2) I think my scale is broken.  I would move it to different spots in the bathroom then the kitchen and each and everytime I got a different weight. Example, placed it in one spot, and adjusted the scale to read zero. Got on and it read 164.  Got off, checked that the scale still read zero and got back on.  This time it read 175.  I did the same thing again and, it read 195. Yeah, I think its broken!!

I'm on track and doing well this week (I didn;t break stride over the weekend!!) Water intake goal for the week is 5 bottles a day.  Exercise everyday, alternating cardio and strength training. And taking all of my vitamins.

Now I'm super motivated.  My clothes are starting to fit better and I'm liking hte look and feel of my body again.  YEAH!!

Anyway, I starting this 'new life style' thing again with a vengence. My goal of 130 ... here I come!!

Welcome new post-ers!

I'm still sitting at 165 lbs today, but that calculates into a total loss of 13 lbs since the New Year!!! YEAH

I took this week "off", because work was hell, my personal life seemed to mirror that, and its 'that time of the month'.  I start back up again next week ... but I am kick starting it today by getting  back on track with my workouts, etc.

I have good news though.  My cousin has decided to join me in my weight loss quest!  YEAH.  I introduced her to Calorie Count and she is loving it.  I'm not sure if she had joined yet, but she is using the listing of foods, etc.  Not only is this good news for it, but it means that I have no excuse not to stick to my goal!!!

Hey All:
waterphoenix -- I do have a large water bottle with a straw that I drink from continuously.  It's just been crazy busy here and I haven't been at my desk for more then 5 mins at a time so thats what the problem is.

Don't worry everyone.  I haven't given up!

I'm having problems with my cousin, best friend and roommate (ie: in order to save our relationship we might have to stop being roommates.  Unfortunatley, I'm the one putting this option forward.) I hate confrontation so I felt like crap yesterday and while I was waiting for my car to get repaired, I walked over to McDonalds for dinner. Surprisingly, becasue of the lack of food I had consumed over the day it still fit in my calorie intake limit for the day.  Not the healthiest, I know.

So, got up this morning, jumped on the scale and voila: 165lbs!!!It's slowly coming down! YEAH

This week is shot.  I'm accepting it now so that next week I can just move on.  I'm still sitting at 168, which is okay.  Work is insane (it will only get worse until about June ... argh) with several projects and events happening at the same time.  AHHH. So I dont have the time to even think about drinking my water.  I dont think about eating either which is kinda good, but not good in the sense that I forget to eat my snack and then by lunch or dinner I'm STARVING.  This is also that 'time of the month' so my hormones are going crazy, all I want to do is sleep in the morning instead of getting up to work out, and I'm craving things like carbs, caffeine and icky foods (I was bad and had Harvey's last night ... it was SOOOO good).

Next week I'm going to get back on track.  My goal is to be able to wear a cute new top and to have my bum look good for my birthday (Feb 2) ... I'm going bowling with a bunch of people on Feb 3.

sotomsays ... you are my hero!!!!

Keep up the good work everyone!!

Hey:  This weekend I was pretty good. Didn't drink my water though so that sucked. But, I didn't move from 168 lb. :)  I measured myself again and I've lost an average of 1 inch on my hips, waist and bust ... YEAH  (not to the bust though ... hehe).  My biggest accomplishment this weekend is food selection and just saying no.  My boyfriend took my out for Sushi Saturday night (thats good food so no worries there) then for lunch at a diner on Sunday ... I choose the protien rich breakfast tray (my cousin works there so I know their cooking practices, etc).  Sunday evening, my boyfriend, my cousin and myself went to a movie.  My cousin bought an Slushie and chocolates, I bought my boy a pop (it was my turn to pick up the tab) and I got myself ... NOTHING!!  Granted, I refuse to pay $5 for a small box of chocolates or $6 for a regular pop so that helped.

I'm hoping to drop a couple more pounds this week.  I'm back to drinking my water (5 32oz bottles is the goal this week), the exercise routine has some add ons to up the anty, and I'm bound and determined to eat even heathier!

Can we do it?  YES, yes we can!!!

ltlmsmfft - yes, that does happen to me.  Actually, it is happening to me!  I have found however, that in the last two weeks my energy levels have gone up and I'm much more "awake". It's probably the lack of sugar and the processed foods.

flick - Welcome! I am in a similar boat as you.  I am 24 years old, 5 foot, 5 inches.  I was told during a fitness assessment at a local gym over two years ago that I have over 33% body fat (and that was when I was 150 lbs!)  You have made the decision to change and I can see that you are willing to go the distance.  We are here for you!  If you have any questions, just ask!

WOOHOO ... jumped on the scale this morning and it read 168 lbs baby!  YEAH!  Yesterday proved it. I need to drink my water.  Yesterday I drank 4 32oz bottles.  Thats alot of water! My body apparently gets dehydrated very quickly and functions better when it is very, very well hydrated. When I don't drink the pounds stay. When I do drink, they go away. SIMPLE.  I hope this pattern sticks for the next month or so.

ltlmsmfft -- are you doing anything other than your cardio and pilates?  If you aren't you should do your cardio one day and the pilates the next day.  Doing this will trick your body and not give it a chance to get used to your routine.  You also don't want to overstress your muscles, etc.  You need to give them a break and then they can grew. My schedule is: strength training on my bowflex one day, 30 mins vigorious rowing the next.  On the weekends I take a brake from training and just row or run.

I don't have kids but I too find finding time hard. To be at the office for 8:30 I need to leave my house by 6:45am.  I find working out in the morning easier as I have no motivation after a day at work.  So I am up at 5:30 a.m. Its annoying and there are days when I want to just stay in bed. But I feel much better following through on my plan and I have a ton of energy for the day! I also try to walk during lunch.  Or stand on the subway instead of sit and try to do it without holding on (strength training for the legs).

Had to share this too.  Part of my job is planning special events.  I'm coorganizing a gala dinner to raise money for the not-for-profit where I work.  The theme this year ... CHOCOLATE!  So I've designed save the date cards, invitations, letterhead, RSVP cards, etc with tasty pictures of truffles, etc.

Today (right now I'm taking a break from it actually) I'm gluing individually wrapped pieces of chocolate into the invitations ... over 600 of them!!!

Perfect timing to have a Chocolate themed dinner ... when I'm trying to be "good".

I just keep thinking, "you can do it!  You are not craving chocolate!  Stick to the plan so you can fit into that sexy formal gown for the dinner!!!

Axtell24 -- I am watching my calorie intake as well and eating lots of whole foods (no more sugur and processed garbage). I am also eating a whole lot more then I used to so I know that my metabolism is stepping up.  I know though that my weight hasnt moved because I'm putting on muscle weight.  If you are working out (even if it is cardio) you will build lean muscle.  So don't dispare!  Thats were the weigh is probably coming from. Once your body figures out that it has new muscle growth that muscle will start helping you burn more and more body fat.  That's how I see it when I'm just sick of exercising (I hate to sweat ... icky) ... I envision myself building "body fat burners" (said in that big movie premiere voice:).  And yes, I am in it for the long haul ... I'm with you all the way!!!

Newdock -- I love speaking to others who have experienced homeschooling.  I too found the work my mom gave me ten times harder than in school (I was actually bored most of the time in school).    I remember in grade 12 biology I mentioned to someone that I was homeschooled. My teacher overheard it and literally fell off his chair.  "You? Homeschooled? There is no way!  You are way to social and confident!" Heehee!  Tell your daughter to keep up the good work at school! The lessons learned through homeschooling (how to study, prioritize, etc) will help her for a long time to come.  This was proved to me at college graduation.  Not only did I walk away with the Leadership and Participation award I had an 90% - 95% average and I had the highest grade out of my entire class!  That blew me away as I'm not that intellectual and book smart.  But it made my mom very, very proud!!!  (my other siblings however are geniuses.  My brother is in garde 11 and is knocking off a 93% average and he is also on the school leadership team and soccer team!! why didn't I get those genes ??? They also got the skinny gene, so I'm not surprised)

The last couple of days have been horrible.  I've been doing my strength training and cardio to a tee (expect for this morning ... I opted to stay in bed for the extra half hour instead of jumping on the rowing machine.  I'll just do it this evening when I get home from work while dinner is in the oven) and I've been eating much much better (other than the cake and ice cream for my baby sisters 10th b-day) but I haven't been drinking my water.  Granted, my water consumption is dractically higher than most peoples (yesterday I drank 3 32oz bottles) but I'm supposed to be drinking 4.5 32 oz bottles. Superhydration baby ... part of the Bowflex Body Plan and its working for me ... now if I can just stick to it.  Today I think I'm back on track .. I'm downiing one bottle before I eat breakfast and I have it timed so that I drink all of them WAY before I get on the train to go home ... nothing like sitting on a train and praying you can hold it in.

Today, like the rest of this week, I'm still sitting at 169 lbs.  But I know that my muscles are remembering their old tone and its one week before that week where I hate being a women ... and thats high water retension time for me.

My motivation by chance (or maybe not) ... on the weekend as I was waiting at a busy restaurant reseving tables for my friends birthday, I stumbled on a copy of the People magazine that featured people who had lost over 100lbs, etc.  Can we say fate?  I read it on the train this morning.  My decision:  "If they can do it, so can I!"

AHHHHHHHHH ... I faltered ... I gave in ...

Last night my cousin, my boyfriend and I went out with a very good friend we haven't seen in ages (which sucks cause he lives about 15 minutes (drive) away).  We went to a pub to chat and catch up and then back to my appartment for more chatting time.

After doing so well with my calorie intake during the day once I got to the pub it was over ... I had one light beer, a bunch of wings, and I picked at my cousins onion rings and my boyfriends nachos.  At least I ate all of the veggies that came with the wings ... thats good, right??  It was like we were all on this huge gorge-fest.  But wait, it ain't over. On our way back to my appartment we stopped and got coffee.  "One large double-double for me, please!!"  AHHHHHHHH

So, this morning I was up and out of bed when my alarm went off at 5:30 a.m. I rowed on my Bowflex for 25 mins, vigoriously and drank an entire bottle of water.

Even with my actions the previous night, when I jumped on the scale this morning it read a beautiful, 169 lbs.  I thought I would never be so happy to see that number.  I didn't go up!  It didn't go down, but at least it didn't go up.  YEAH!!.

So today I'm starting a new.  Drinking all my water, watching my calories and eating healthy and moving as much as I can (I have a desk job which means I'm going for a walk at lunch).

Like my mantra yesterday read:  Half a 32ml bottle of water down, 4 more to go.  Chug, chug, chug, chug ......................

Welcome everyone!  Keep the positive stories coming.  It helps writing it down doesn;t?

Off topic ...

newdock (aka DJ) Welcome.  Just wanted to say that I read your profile and see that you are a homeschooling mom.  I was a homeschooled too!!!  I was homeschooled from grade 7 till grade 11 when I reentered the public school system to get ready for college (gave myself a buffer year to get used to being 'part of the crowd' again).  My mom didn't homeschool my siblings (there are five of us) but she is very active in their education and they are all doing very well.  Homeschooling Moms are WonderWomen!!

K, back on topic ...

To myself chant: One 32ml bottle of water down, 3.5 more to go.  Chug, chug, chug .......................
