Weight Loss How to get back on track Sep 03 2008
05:10 (UTC)

I am in the same boat as well. I have been doing this for the past year and a half and the past 6 months I have been at a standstill. I am now up 15 pounds from my lowest. I decided two weeks ago to start fresh the day after Labor Day. I did not log food or look at this website for two weeks. So starting today I am back on track.

But after setting the new date to restart I am still lacking the drive to keep this up and not eat the bowl of ice cream I am craving right now. I had joined a group looking for some more support, but it just kinda fizzled and nobody talked/encourage each other. I found that frustrating.

I will say one thing that we have in common, We have all lost weight and know that we can do this. Since we all seem to have the same/similar issue, Maybe we could all help each other along with this. Anyone one interested?

Two pounds down this week. But two pounds could just be not enough water. We shall see three weeks from now. This week was pretty good. I did not stray to far and seem to be a little back on track. I even tried a few new recipes. I made Stuffed peppers on saturday and they were excellent, even though I do not care for peppers (wife does). This weekend will be a challenge for me. We are heading to Boise to see one of my best friends and his family as well as alot of other friends from High School. I am sure there will be drinking and barbeques. I will try and be good. We are also going river rafting on Saturday. Maybe I can work off a few calories there. Have a great week enveryone.

Well back to square one for this challenge. I have lost nothing since I began this group and challenge. On the upside I have still lost 64 pounds and I am still going with the flow. I am really trying to cut out the bad foods since they seem to get me in trouble. I have made the commitment to eating better, but after some thought I think it is harder for me to eat well during the summer since I seem to be really busy and want to do other things. Last summer is when I hit my first plateau. I love to cook and prepare the healthly meals but, like I said befoer it is just easier to eat and go with the summertime keeping you running. I will keep up the fight.

safiyah1,

Thank you so much for the words of encouragement. Everything you said was completely true. I know how to do this and the previous weight loss is proof. I just need to get my head on straight and move forward. I just have to really want to do this and I DO! Sometimes, I think we all need that little kick in the pants to keep us focused on our goals.

My wife did start CC with me last year but has since let it fall by the wieghside.hahahah She only wanted to loss 15 pounds but has yet to accomplish that. Since I do 95% of the cooking in the house, I guess it is in my hands to keep up the healthy eating. I have asked her for help but, she does not want to nag me constantly. She was my main motivation for starting this journeyand my doctor as well. My wife flat out told me that "I do not tink you can loss the weight on your own". That means that I need some additional help. Programs with meeting and such. She said it hurt her to say that, but she does know how to motivate me. Attacking  a mans pride is a great motivational tool sometimes. Or at least for me. I was not upset by her saying that, but it did set my wheels in motion. Maybe I should have her berate me and see where that takes me. haha. She has since said that she was wrong and she knew I could do it but it was her way of pushing me.

Most of time I am really active with everything. Kids keep me moving as well as the new house and such. I just need to make time to get this done and keep it up. I make time for the gym So I will make time to eat right. I do bring my breakfast and lunch almost everyday to work and eat pretty well then, but dinner and weekends is when I lose it. I just quit logging my food on the weekends since it was off the chart calorie wise. And like I said Summer is harder since I am out of the normal routine on the weekend and there is always someplace to go or something to do. I am going to get my head and stomach straight and move forward. Thanks again fo rthe positive and blunt thoughts.

Well it seems that I still have not gotten back on the wagon correctly as of yet.  I have been doing CC for 1 1/2 years now and I am having trouble staying motivated. I know all the reasons to keep this up and maintain the lifestyle change, but it seems it is sometimes easier to just eat whatever is right in front of you. I have asked my wife to help, but she is really unsure how since she does not seem to want to nag me about it. I know this is something that I must do for myself, but some additional motivation would be helpful.

I have not been making the best choices about the types of food I have been eating. My one cheat meal a week has turned into 4 or 5 some weeks. I also have not been logging my food religously like I have previously. I am still going to the gym twice a week and that is goiing pretty well.

Can someone please help me get back on track? I will warn you that I need to be smacked in the head with  2x4 sometimes to get my attention.

I hope that everyone had a great Holiday weekend. I know that I did. Really surprised that the weight was not much worse with all the ribs and hotdogs and dringking going on camping for three days. Sorry no post last week but got tied up with life and just spaced it. So now I am hitting it hard again. Last years 4th is where i hit my first plateau. This year is going to be when I break this current one. I just need to eat better and quit "justifying" the bad foods that I have been eating. I know thaty are not good, but I still eat it more thatn I should. I guess you can say I did not fall off the wagon but I was being drug behind it.

I hope that everyone has a good week. Keep up the good work.

Well here I am staying about the same every week. I guess another plateau is upon me. I have just been ravenous the past few weeks and I want to eat everything is sight. Not really sure why, but I am keeping it under wraps. I wish that I could still be losing like I did i the beginning. One to two pounds a week was great. Maybe I should step back and reevaluate what I am doinig now and what I was doing then. Just a thought. Sometimes we just become really complacent with what we are doing and lose sight of the final goal. Anyone else ever feel this way?

Northbeach, You are doing awesome. Keep up the good work and let us know a few of the insights to your success. A little inspiration never hurts. Everyone keep up the good work.

It seems that I am a yoyo. Back to the gym this week, but plenty of exercise is still being done with moving and carrying boxes. Not as much cardio though. Man do I really hate moving. Exciting yes but packing and unpacking is starting to drill on me. Started eating better last week since I could actually cook again and the weight is heading in the right direction. two weeks to meet my next mini goal. Do not think that is going to happen but maybe a month or two.

Glad to see that most of us are still here and a few new members as well. You are all doing really well. Keep up the good work.

Well we are moved in. On the upside we got lots of exercise, on the down side I did not eat very well. Alot of pizza was consumed since it was easy and available. Now that things are settling down, I can get back on track starting yesterday. My next goal is 260 by July 1st. It may be hard to hit that at the rate I have been going. I should be able to get back to the gym next week since the house is still upside down and we are getting things put away. Have a great week everyone.

I guess that I am still in vacation mode. Gained another pound last week and it is because I am not being very good at all. I am eating way too much again, eating the wrong things and the weight loss is not happening. They gym has been suffering as well lately since we are in the process of moving and packing. The moving should be completed this weekend and then I will be able to get back on track with the eating and exercising. There does not seem to be enough tiime to cook properly since we are living out of boxes and no planning whats so ever. On one up side, the new house has stairs to go up as opposed to the old single level house. It cannot hurt with htis additioanl exercise. Have a great week everyone.

But hey it was a vaction and I am back on it now. I will just look at it as shocking my body the other way and see what happens. Hopefully tthings will settle down in a couple of weeks. Sign the paperwork on both houses this week and move on the 7th. Should be really back to normal after that. Well I am off to the gym for my Tuesday workout. Cardio, legs and back tonight. Ok this week is back down again. Maybe I am in the up and down rut again for a few months. I guess I will just keep on doing it. Well this this week we sold our house and signed on a new one today. The stress is killing me. Just doing my part to help the enconomy I guess. I am off to Colorado this weekend for five days for a family vacation. I will be good I swear. So next weeks weigh in may not happen for me but the scale never lies. On a lighter note I made a strawberry/rhubarb pie with Splenda this past weekend. It sure was good. I have never used the Splenda in baking before. Of course that pie is always good with a scoop of vanilla ice cream along side. Keep up the good work this week everyone.

OOPS! Look like I found another one of those pounds that I lost previously. Well last week was a pretty interesting one. I went to the gym 3 times, but I ate very poorly on two seperate occasions. I had chinese for lunch one day (way over did it) and had Pizza for dinner on Saturday (I ate to much again). So we sold the house on Friday and went out for ice cream with the kids to celebrate. I was good here, I only had 1 small scoop of strawberry sorbet and one mango. It was really good. No to mention I have had a head cold since last Friday and my wife is in Oklahoma at a conference. Hopefully I will be able to get back on track in the next couple of days.

What was once lost is now found. I found one of the pounds that I was missing last week. At least it was only one. Last week I only made it to the gym once, not the four that I usually do. Funny how life gets in the way every now and then. But there is no rest for those of us that want to lose the weight. Right!! I will be there at least four times this week.

It looks like eveeryone's scales are heading the right way. Keep it up.

Well I made it. I broke ther 270 mark on a weigh in day. WOOHOOO!! Only 49 lbs to go until the final goal is reached. Rasmom thanks for the feedback about your workouts. I typically go the the gym 4 times a week. Mondays and wednesday I go at lunch and do 45 minutes of cardio to get the blood moving. Tuesday and Thursdays after work I do 45 minutes of Cardio and 45 minutes of weights. Most every day I do 15 minutes of stretching and or a 15 minute walk. The weekends I do not ususally go to the gym but I am usually pretty active with household things and kids. Just have to keep moving.

Hopefully everyone is having a great week. Thursday is take you Daughter/Son to work day. I will be taking my 5 year old daughter for half a day. I will probalby take her to a sewage treatment plant and well sites since she has asked lots of questions about where water comes from and what happens after you flush the toilet. Good thing I can answer those. Keep up the good work everyone.

Sorry for the late post. Just got busy with work, gym, kids, life. Well I am back to where I was two weeks ago but it did come down after the weekend of ribs. It did take all week though. Yesterday when I weighed in I was at 269. I was pretty happy that I broke the 270 mark. Yeah for me. Only a few pounds until the BIG 75#.

I love the idea of a weight log. I have one for myself since I started this change in lifestyle a year ago. That is why I weigh in on Tuesdays instead of Sunday. It is amazing to look at and really think about it. Let me know what you need or if you need any help. A question for everyone, what is everyone doing for exercise? Just looking for new ideas and encouragement. With the weather getting nicer, it would be nice to be outside more. Hope everyone has a great week.

Well it seems that the past few weeks were all for not at this point. I went up four pounds from last week. I was not very good this weekend. I smoked about 15 pounds of ribs and all the side dishes for a barbeques on saturday. Not to mention that I drank a few beers and whisky along with the goodies. oh well what's done is done. Time to move forward. I do not do this very often so I really enjoyed myself and did not worry about the calories.

I am sure most of this will come off in the next day or so but with my weigh in day today it has not yet. So I was right back into the routine yesterday. I am still doing the gym 4 times a week so that is a bonus. I am also trying to increase my water intake to at least 4 liters for a few days and see if I can flush out the extra weight. We shall see how it goes.

Hope everyone has a great week and keep up the good work.

Week five, and the weight is still moving in the right direction. I am finding it hard to believe that I have lost this much weight. Hopefully by next week I will be at the 270 or less mark and keep on going from there. This has been quite a couple of weeks as well. We are putting our house on the market and looking for a bigger place so we have been really busy with cleaning and just getting it ready. Stress can be a wonderful thing

As far as the platueu here is how I am looking at them at this point, "Plateaus Suck, Inevitable, but you will get thru them!". After two plateaus in the past year (3 months and 5 months) They can drive you crazy even if you know you are doing things correctly. Just keep up the motivation and good habits and you will make it.

Thanks for the Kudos Lissy. I am sure the weight you gained was just water weight. So just get back on that horse and I am sure you will reach that goal. How did the 5k go? Welcome rasmom, becky, janie and jess. My name is Jason nad this site has been a lifesaver for me. I been doing this for 16 months now and it has become a routine and is still doable. Starting is usually the hardest part. Keep up the good work.

Yeah, I am off this plateau!! Four weeks in a row that the weight is still coming off. I have now lost 70 lbs since beginning CC. I am now on the last notch on my belt again and need to punch a few more holes again. I agree that nobody chats in this group. I'm game. I posted this following paragraph last week and nobody responded. Do I smell? Because I can clean up a little more if that would work! Or is the beard? I am about to shave it off.

What is everyones mini goal and time for that to happen? Mine is to be below 270 by May 1st. (Of course that was the goal for 10/2/07 as well. As it is going I may make that by April 1st.). I just keep pushing it back as the plateau progressed. Anyone give any rewards for reaching the mini goals and the final weight goals? My final wieght I will reward myself with finally getting Certified to Scuba. Hope everyone has a great week. Keep up the good work.

Another week behind us and it seems the scale is finally moving in the right direction. I hope it contuinues. This plateau I have been on for the past 4 1/2 months is really getting old. But I know it will come off eventually. Melissa, Thanks for keeping track of my gym regime and kicking me in the but. It was not that I did not want to go but the nephew's band recital is only once a year and I do not wnat to miss it. The other was a work meeting that ran thru lunch (When I go to the gym on Weds) and I could not make it. By the way, great job not eating the pizza. That is one of my huge weakness also. Keep up the good work.

I did make the gym four times last week and helped break down a boat show (Lots of lifting and pushing for four hours). So I know that I burned plenty of calories and worked the muscles alot. (I am still feeling it). So far today I am in a pretty good mood and pretty happy that the scale went down two weeks in a row. Hard to believe that from my highest weight I am down 73 lbs. Congrats Northbeach!! Breaking a major barrier is a great feeling. Keep it up. Hope everyone has a great week. Keep up the good work.

Thanks lissy28083, I will cut the fat intake and see if that helps. Right now I am doing cardio for 35 minutes twice a week and then 45 minutes twice a week with 45 minutes of weights. I went back and looked at what I was eating when I started this a year ago (when I was losing really well) and compared to what I am doing now. I can make a few tweaks and try and become more stringent since I have become somewhat lax about little things. I do like my 1 diet pepsi every other day or so but I will try and cut them out again. (I did in the past for two weeks with no change so I started again). Thanks again for the input. I 'll keep you posted.

Thanks kaumkk for the words of encouragement. I know the weight takes time, but no loss in 4 months get a little frustrating. I will just keep doing what I am doing.

I do track my calories religously. I weigh and log just about everything. I am keeping my intake at about 2200 to 2400 on most days. This is a lifestyle change for me. I am not going back to the old way I use to eat and not exercise. The only craving I get once and a while is a little ice cream and pizza. All in moderation. I just work them into the plan fo the day. I go to the gym at least 4 times a week for cardio and weight lifting. I know things are changing since my wife has commented in how I look even though it does not show on the scale.

Thanks you for the comment about my family. They are my main incentive and you do need the energy to keep up with those two little ones. I just read your profile and congrats on your weight loss. You must feel like a totally different person. Keep up the good work.

nismofreaks14,

No worries. I know I have come along way already but someitmes it just feels good to vent a little about this slow progress. I do lift weights pretty hard and I know I have gained alot of muscle mass by the way my clothes fit and the amount of weight that I can now lift. I hope I get enough water, I have been drinking at least 3 liters a day.  Thanks for the support. Man I love this site.

Well after my weigh-in two days ago the weight seems to have climbed back. I was at 280 for the past couple of days. I know that it is nothing too serious but I have been stuck now for the past 3 1/2 months and it is really starting to drive me crazy. I am doing the same things that I was when I was losing weight. I have changed my work out routine. eaten more calories and less to try and jump start things and it does not seem to work. I know it just takes time but it would be nice to see some results once in a while.

I know what you mean about having the time. My lifestyle did not allow me to do that until I made it a priority. (the Doctor and wife actually made it a priority) That is why I go during lunch for some cardio and only go two days after work. It can be a scheduling nightmare on the wife as well. But we have it worked out that she goes to the gym early on tuesdays and then pick up kids and I do the same on thursday so we can both go. I does dound like you are gettinga pretty decent work out with your routine though. Good luck.
