| you are most certainly on the verge of developing an ED. please, don't just ignore these comments. don't think you're "doing fine."
your body is telling you something. you've been having binges lately? bad ones? trust me, that's your body's way of trying to get your attention. your body's crying out for help, why are you ignoring it?!? |

| Weight Loss | i'm staying up past my bedtime just to spill my guts... boring ramblings from a teen | Feb 20 2007 04:34 (UTC) |
|
| wow, first i gotta say:
THANKS EVERYONE for your awesome comments and support!!! to be honest these past two days have been kinda tough. after i finally made up my mind to stop counting calories two days ago, there were times when i could feel myself slipping ... some part of my brain telling me to calculate. it didn't help that i've just discovered that i've gained quite a lot of weight in just one week (8 pounds to be exact -- i really don't know where this weight came from!?). i guess i'm still struggling with food in general and i guess i'll struggle with it a bit longer, but ya know what. i've made a commitment and i'm gonna stick to it. the problem right now is that my body can't really seem to tell between hunger and "just right." i guess that's what the calorie restrictions caused. when i was counting calories it was easy -- i would know exactly when to stop eating at meals because i would have reached my calorie intake for the meal, y'know? now that i'm actually letting my body have a say in these things -- it's kinda scary. letting your body decide for itself. giving back the power your mind took from it. but i know i gotta do it. because i really don't want to spend the rest of my life obsessing over food. like i said earlier, i'd rather be happy, healthy, fit, and okay, a couple of pounds heavier than miserable, thin, and obsessed with food. how about you?!? that's really the message that i'm trying to send out to other teens on this site who've been thru the same things i have (and i never knew there were so many teens who went through the same stuff!) i just want to tell you guys that it's POSSIBLE to NOT OBSESS ABOUT YOUR FOOD and be happy and fit and LOOK GOOD. i'm pretty sure the key is just healthy eating and exercising! right now i'm thinking about it this way: if i eat healthy foods AND exercise a lot, it's practically impossible for me to gain any weight. first off, healthy foods have so many less calories (yeah, i'm still thinking about those damned calories but at least i'm not obsessing over each single one!) and exercising burns a lot! so at the end of the day your calorie expenditure would more or less balance each other and you'd maintain. of course, so far all of this is just theoretical, but it's what i'm gonna try to put into practice. also, sidenote -- :P i'm focusing on toning (abs, thighs) at the moment so if anyone has any tips/ideas/suggestions throw 'em here pls! |

| some ppl at c-c actually helped me realize i was heading down the wrong path (i'm a teen who was starting to become obsessed with food).
i too am concerned (esp. about the potential ed teens who come here to lose more pounds!!)... but hopefully at least some of those teens turn out to be cases like me (where c-c was their wake up call) |

| hehe robokira, i can completely relate... the girls at my high school are exactly the same too! even some teachers... which is ridiculous. for example, my english teacher is obese, and the other day she heard me talking about brownies with a friend (her sister had made some and i was trying to get her to give me some, hehe). this obese teacher went right up to me and said, "EAT TWO BROWNIES, you're too skinny"
my friend and i were like "wtf?!" i guess when it comes to weight, all females are like that, regardless of their age |

| hey, i don't know who you are personally but whoever you are, PLEASE LISTEN TO THE OTHER PEOPLE ON THIS SITE.
at 800 cal. per day YOU ARE STARVING YOURSELF. even if you led a sedentary lifestyle, at your age you should be consuming minimum 1800 calories to maintain weight. think about it. you're eating 1000 calories less, PLUS you're exercising?! girl, do you know how much danger you're putting your body, the only one you're ever gonna have, in? please take it from me and the other teens on this site who have made the same mistakes... don't do this to yourself. |

| Thanks for the advice... I guess I shouldn't be counting calories at this age but I dunno, it just makes me feel more secure to count calories I guess, this way I know exactly how much I'm losing, etc.
So if I don't count my calories and eat healthy and stay off junk food, and be active at least 60 mins per day, do you think I could still lose weight?? |

| hey everyone,
i don't have an ED but i do have a question for you people who do... i've read countless times now from past ED-ers that they always gain back the weight they lost through unhealthily restricting their calories, etc... my question is, why is that? why do they gain back all the weight? if anyone could answer it would be greatly appreciated :) thanks |

| YES, count me in!!!
I've been binging for three days now and haven't gone to the gym in four days. I think I might have gained 2 kg (four pounds). That's going to take me 3-4 weeks to shed... |

| Hey winterz... could you please tell me a little more about your condition? I'm just curious. I would like to know for how long you restricted yourself... and when you were anorexic did you not eat at all or eat below a certain number of calories a day?
I am not ana and I don't want to be, I'm just curious... thanks. |

| I've been having the same problems. I haven't worked out for the past four days and I have been eating excessively three out of those four days... I think I've gained 1 or 2 kg (2-4 pounds). I think it's a result of the restricted diet I put myself on while I was losing weight... it's like now that I can actually afford to give my body treats once in a while it suddenly demands them all the time!!! I don't know what to do... I am so scared that I will just gain back all the pounds that I lost. | |||

| I've also heard the same thing... that sometimes dehydration can be mistaken as hunger. So yup, I always drink a mug of water before I eat my meals.
I don't like the idea of blending my food with water to make soup either. First off, it would taste really yucky! Second, I think chewing your food is actually better because the act of chewing causes the brain to send "fullness" signals to the stomach. As opposed to drinking, which is a much faster process (thus your body doesn't feel like it's full with the same amount of food). I read in a magazine that you should chew every bite of food 20-30 times. |

| I'm so glad that I'm not alone in this. Just the other day my English teacher (a grossly overweight woman, btw) commented on my weightloss. Very loudly, too, in front of the whole class. She remarked that it seemed like I had lost "quite a few pounds," then asked if I had been trying to lose weight intentionally. Then the next day, she commented on my weightloss AGAIN, this time even dragging my friends into the whole thing by trying to stir up a "discussion" about it. Ugh, whatever. | |||
| Foods | Chinese food that is low cal??? | Jan 07 2007 09:20 (UTC) |

| isusiubeste and disappearing act are definitely right. Coming from a Chinese family, I should know! The Chinese food in the US is "Westernized" meaning lots and lots of extra fat has been added to the dishes in order to appeal to Western tastes. I eat homemade Chinese food 24/7 and usually we just saute our veggies and meats.
Don't order chow mein -- its incredibly high in calories. In fact don't order anything that has been fried. Stick with steamed veggies and stay clear of any dishes involving thick, syrupy sauces. Hope this helps! |

| For mushrooms, have you ever tried shiitake? They're fairly large so you should chop them up first before cooking them.
As for spinach -- yum! Must be one of my favorite veggies, seriously. Gotta love the iron in them! You could try some cooked with extra virgin olive oil and some onions. |
