Foods Who here eats breakfast? Nov 23 2007

Oh yeah!  Breakfast is my BIGGEST meal of the day... I feel like I can't function without the natural food energy boost as I'm likely to burn it all off during the day to start off empty again the next day!  (I don't eat at night anymore).

In the WORST of circumstances, I bring some fruit with me... Apples are super easy to eat on the go & they're crazy good for you!  (has natural sugars to kick-start a good carb burn)...
Weight Loss hydroxycut - opinions?? Nov 20 2007

To follow up my previous post, it averages out (without the perfect diet & workout schedule) to be about $75 per pound lost (for me).  Still not worth it (for me, not even close)

I did this and recorded a 4% added result which equals a grand total of 0.74 pounds (3/4 of 1 pound) over the life of the bottle.

The product WORKS "exactly as promised."  and everyone should realize that it DOES!   You also must realize the math.  The average was 7% added loss.  So if you average the normal healthy weight loss of 2 pounds per week, then the average loss will be an extra 0.14 pounds (or 1/6) per week.   This is if the suppliment works as well as can be expected.

For most everyone here, this is not a measureable result and certainly does not justify the $60 price tag.  Over the course of two months (0.14 pounds/week) there will be a total added loss of about 1.25 pounds for the life of the $60 bottle working as well as promised.

So it promises on the label that with a "premium" diet and "ideal" workout schedule, you WILL LOSE 1 & 1/4 pounds extra by paying all that money.  (in my opinion) It's NOT WORTH IT, even though it DOES perform it's promise as stated.

I keep going as long as either time or energy levels allow.  For the first month or so, I was quitting after 15 to 20 minutes due to severe pain in my calf muscles.  I would recommend doing exercise on the calf muscles & quads to supplement the DDR experience.  It will up your endurance considerably once those muscles have a little more power in them.  I can now play up to 2 hours, but it's my own breath running short that quits me now or a general feeling of fatigue all over (no specifics, just low blood-sugar).  Good luck to everyone doing DDR, I think it's great and it's fun too!  I'm still waiting for another calorie burning interactive game to play.  The Nintendo Wii was fun to play but you can easily adapt and find ways to play every game sitting down and just flicking your wrist while lounging in the recliner.. LOL!

I've got DDR-Extreme 2 & 3 for X-Box and outside of how you navigate through the menus, I would say the only big change is the music.  I always set mine to "random" that way I'm forced to play whatever the computer pulls up, otherwise I'd be picking the same 6 songs over & over again.

REALLY BIG BIG BIG TIP!!!  your legs will hurt like )#(U%#)* the next day. Specifically the tops of your legs & calfs.  I'd do the most basic beginning mode available, or even training mode until you learn a few step combinations.  It took me about 10 hours over the course of an entire week to get up to the "easy" or "novice" difficulty level (past beginner).  So expect to get a little frustrated at first, but stick with it and you'll get it just fine.   I'm now doing 70% standard difficulty and 30% hard (heavy) difficulty on the songs;  after about 5 months of "every-other-day" type of use.

It's crazy fun, and you can work up a sweat in about 3 minutes flat once you get into it (2 songs worth)....   CooL Idea!  I'm glad to see it's still making the rounds...

Oh, I'm still using the paper thin mat that came with it... no foam, but I do have a very padded carpet beneath it.  NEVER WEAR SHOES ON THE MAT!!! Socks only!  (no bare feet, when you get sweaty your feet will stick and cause you to skip steps)  I often have a standing fan nearby to turn on after doing the "DDR" for 5-7 minutes, it comes in handy to keep cool.

As a beginner you may get sore feet, this is due to the "stomping" effect, there's no need to stomp on anything, it will recognize if you just pat your fingers on the pad, so tapping around on your toes will save any possible joint injuries & sore feet & back!

I hope some of this helps!

PS:  I've got some crazy home DDR videos too (you can email me if you want to see what it looks like, address is in the profile)

SD Memory card player (about the size of iPod nano) it's cross compatible to MP3/WMA/WAV and can be used on MAC/Windows/Linux, has FM-Radio & recorder too, can even record radio if you want or from line-in if you want to transfer music from the internet radio channels or TV-music channels.

1 "AAA" rechargeable battery would do the trick, and you probably already have the SD card(s) from a digital camera or cell phone, if not, they're cheap enough too (takes up to a 4-GB card) and you can keep more on hand for lots of potential music.

BEST ADVICE is getting some good noise cancelling earphones. They probably go for $99 to $199 on eaby for the ones that aren't off the wall on the top end. But they do great. I can hear fine at medium volume while walking down city streets & even riding on bus trips. The retail on earphones like this would probablygo between $189 to $329, so keep that in mind if you don't want to do the ebay thing.

Here's an active link as of right now: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem &item=170070044326

I hope the money you save on getting a less expensive player will help you afford some "premium" earphones! Heres what I use for earphones, and I can usually walk by road construction with almost no interference (while still on medium volume): Shure E3c: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem &item=130069593424
Weight Loss What Just Happened?? Jan 16 2007

Hey I'm new here too, started around the same time.  I did that one weekend.  Finished off a whole meat pizza & 2-liter pepsi just for lunch alone @ 11-am.  continued on that trend again from 3pm to 3am..   BLAH..   the worst part was I felt like doing it again the next day!  I must have been over 10,000 calories that day at least.  But I realized what went on and planned the rest of my week accordingly and I still lost a 1/2 pound by the time the week was over.  I think it's because I was fairly active the next day working.

So here's what has worked for me so far...   I think you should fill out your profile and start listing journal entries.. it's actually a blog...   To get people reading, find someone else on the forums that writes in a blog and post a few replies.  Or just invite people to view your blog (Journal).    I found that when I have feedback I do much better and it's an extra incentive to actually log on to the site and enter #'s in my weight logs, etc...    It's easier than trying to find friends on MySpace.  Everyone here is very positive & supportive.

My "light bulb" moment was when I left in the morning with $50 in my pocket and came home with nothing after work...  I travel alot for work so it's hard to keep track of what I spend throughout the day being in different stores, etc...  so I thought back to what I spent it all on, and it was all on junk...  That's when I realized I needed to pack a lunch and limit my junk spending to more like 5 or 10 a day (to start).  I still can believe I spent 50 on junk.. wow..

----mmarcin----

This is a very frustrating time for me, I've never been on a diet before and I've never tried to exercise before. (two firsts at once). I was 100% convinced that if I wanted to lose the weight that I could and that would be that.

I was SO WRONG!  It's not so easy at all.  This is gonna be a hard journey for sure.  My goal is to lose 55 pounds and gain probably 15 to 20 worth of muscle as I've lost alot of it.  It's been 10 years since I was happy with what I saw in the mirror.  I did this to see what would happen.  I think I'm on the right track so far.  But I've got a long way to go.  Here comes trial & error with the foods I choose!

How much weight have you loss?        11 pounds

What's the best weight loss advice you've gotten?   I haven't gotten any good advice yet, I'm new at this (first diet ever).

What is your montra/motto?  I want to be 165# like I was at 18.

What do you tell yourself to stay modivated?  Don't need to, the want to be fit is enough to drive me in this direction and stick to it.

What is it all for? Are you doing it for your health? A cute bikini? Your kids?  A cute bikini, hmm... maybe swim-trunks without a t-shirt to cover the belly. I want abs again!  where did they go?

I recently did an acidity lab in college, and belive it or not (true measurements tested) Diet coke came in at 1 step above battery acid.  Battery acid having a pH of 1, and Diet Coke measuring in at 2.  NutraSweet, Aspartame, Equal, & Sweet&Low are all on the most acidic side of the scale as well, which doesn't help.

If your pH is too acidic, your body borrows minerals - such as calcium, magnesium, potassium and sodium - from vital organs and bones to neutralize and remove the acid.

Your normal pH should be between 6.5 and 7.5 throughout the day, and 5.7 to 6.5 was often commen from soda drinkers right when you wake up.  This is due to the acidity of carbon, which makes the bubbles in ANY carbonated beverage (even perrier, carbonated naturally).

Most people who suffer from unbalanced pH are acidic. This condition forces the body to borrow minerals -- including calcium, sodium, potassium and magnesium -- from vital organs and bones to buffer (neutralize) the acid and safely remove it from the body. Because of this strain, the body can suffer severe and prolonged damage due to high acidity -- a condition that may go undetected for years.

Even mild acidosis can cause such problems as:
  • Cardiovascular damage, including the constriction of blood vessels and the reduction of oxygen.
  • Weight gain, obesity and diabetes.
  • Bladder and kidney conditions, including kidney stones.
  • Immune deficiency.
  • Acceleration of free radical damage, possibly contributing to cancerous mutations.
  • Premature aging.
  • Weak, brittle bones, hip fractures and bone spurs.
  • Joint pain, aching muscles and lactic acid buildup.
  • Low energy and chronic fatigue.

I would say go by how good you feel and the size thing is definitely in the right direction.  Maybe always keep an article on hand that's one size smaller and see if you fit into it one day.  That's what I did. I found my favorite pair of pants, but the company didn't make them in any size bigger than 38 (mens), so I bought them anyway as an incentive to lose some pounds.  I tell ya those pants sat around for awhile, but I fit into them eventually, and still wear them today (since 2001).  If they start fitting too tight, I'll re-asses the situation again, which is why I just joined this fabulous site!  Good luck to everyone!  PS:  The pants didn't fit me for almost 3 months (one size down) so don't get discouraged if it comes slowly.  Slow is most likely permanent.

No, Not really... You probably burn around 1500 just by sitting around and passing a day away so in order to NOT be in a severe calorie defecit you should eat something extra just because if you lose too much weight, it's coming from your muscles (which is the reason you burn calories) and that makes you lose weight SLOWER!  so you really don't want to burn your muscles for energy, just the fat.  So try to assess what you use for energy in the day and keep your diet within your recommended calorie defecit.  I won't give nutrition advice, but I *heard* it was very bad to stay more than 500 calories under your energy expenditure.

If you're taking the energy version is it because you feel weak during the day?  Do you eat or drink anything at all that contains: NutraSweet, Aspartame, Equal, or Sweet & Low?  Do you drink anything carbonated?  If so, look into what your body pH measures to be.  I found this to be my problem in the energy department, mainly because I drank alot of "diet soda."

Let me know if you find that faster metabolism secret.  That sounds like a good idea to me too.  Even though I eat fairly healthy I tend to eat larger portions than I should.  I started doing that when I needed 4500+ calories a day working construction, but I stopped that years ago and haven't backed down enough still.  Maybe I'll just have to go back to a manual labor job (eeh) since I'm not the best for getting motivated to exercise...
