I'm with void. Weigh out an ounce several times and see how many you get per ounce on average then use that number. I know for me if I don't weight what I am eating I will always estimate too many as a serving. Good luck. |

| Maintaining | why do they say that if you lose alot of weight fast you are easily gonna gain it back and more right away | Jul 03 2008 20:33 (UTC) |

The problem with losing too much weight too fast is that most of the time it is done with some extreme diet that does not change a persons eating habits. So once the diet is over they return to old eating habits and the weight comes right back. Also extreme diets prime the body to store fat in case of future loss of food (i.e. another extreme diet). Should you be worried about gaining it back? That depends on what you do now. If you have changed eating and exercise habits to something that can maintain your new weight, then you don't need to worry, just keep doing the new habits. If yu have lost the weight so you can get back to your "normal" life then yes you will need to worry. I know for me I am learning new eating habits as I lose weight so that I won't let the weight come back. I am learning about portion control, exercise, and healthy foods. I am sure what I lose will stay off because I am continuing to track what I eat and how much. This has gotten to be a heathy habit for me and does not take up too much time. This new way of thinking and acting is beginning to be my "normal" which is what I want to do. No more diets, just constant heathy eating and exercising. Congrats on your weight loss. Good luck on keeping heathy. This site has tons of tools to help you keep on track. |

Amylynn hharris has done a great job on telling you what calories to consume. I just want to throw in a quick note on counting those calories. I know for me I could never make a diet successful until I started measuring the stuff I was eating. I could get ceral in the morning and see that it was like 240cal per serving and I would think that's great and eat away. But I really poured 3 to 5 servings in my bowl because that is what I was used to. My eye is a very poor measuring device. If you are like me and used to eating without measuring it will be very hard to lose weight. Once I started measuring and weighting and counting everything the weight began to come off at a steady pace (20 lbs since May 17). Hopefully over time my eye will be better able to get correct proportion sizes and I will keep the weight off. Good luck to you. |

| Weight Loss | Time of Day vs. Below Minimum Calories | Jun 13 2008 00:14 (UTC) |

I am fairly new at this but I have been losing for the last three weeks. I seldom eat dinner before seven and I eat a snack before bed also. I am not sure when I eat makes a difference but I am very careful not to go over my set calories for the day and I always eat breakfast. I have lost 14 lbs in the last three weeks or so doing this, so I don't plan to change. I try to stay focused on doing my exercises for the day, eating healthy and within my calorie limit or below. If I am hungry at bedtime and I have some calories left, I eat. If I don't have calories left, I don't eat. If I am not hungry, I don't eat. I try and keep it that simple. If you keep within your calories, you will lose weight. Good luck to you. |
