Weight Loss Need to vent a little & a little advise Mar 11 2007

Give thanks, both you and your daughter were unharmed.

Cars are just a load of metal to get us from A-B, hopefully doing little damage to ourselves and the planet on the way.

Only people are important enough to be sad over and you are important- so take care of yourself.

Get up, get busy - even if slowly- count your blessings and believe that tomorrow is going to be a good day.
Weight Loss A teaspoon of oil? Mar 11 2007

Two teaspoons of light oil and two teaspoons of sugar add only the equivalent of a small cookie - Im not sure thats the reason its working.    Ive lost another pound as of this am.  Three meals yesterday,  homemade five fruit smoothie with full fat tablespoon of yoghurt for breakfast, baked camembert!! with salad at a restaurant for lunch and ravioli on spinach for supper,  plenty of calories there.  Plus the oil and sugar, and also a pear somewhere along the day.

It seems to have cut my appetite somewhat.   I havent had any cravings this week and seem to be able to say 'no thanks' more easily.   Ive also felt quite full sooner in a meal - all the results that others have reported - I promise Im a real cynic having tried every diet every devised down the years.  Another interesting side effect is that my skin looks better, Im 54 and very wrinkly, and my skin looks softer and 'more relaxed'   Im wondering if all the low fat dieting down the years hasnt helped by body at all and the simple addition of a little (good quality and good for the cholesterol) oil has made a very subtle but very significant difference.

Im on Statins, and watch the fat content, but always use olive oil, no other for salad dressings and in cooking, I think it has a lot to do with taking it neat, and alone.

Ill keep you informed on this thread but would be very interested if anyone else has tried this.   I agree with nevdull re the fructose, but as I never drink sodas (and never have) and have cut out the chocolate (an occasional dark sqaure only), and never use sugar in cooking - replacing it with apples etc.  I dont think I have to worry too much about two teaspoons a day.  I may try only using the oil for a day or two and see if the weight loss stays.

Thanks for the replies.

Hi yall

Im a new runner - do spinning three or four times a week, swim occasionally, body pump occasionally, weights occasionally.   Ive always walked fast, very fast, on the treadmill, but after the advice I read somewhere a couple of weeks ago on this site, Ive upped the pace and my stamina has doubled.

Im running 30 -45 mins,  with short fast walking on and off, less as time has gone on.   Ever since I bought one of the little MP3 players I can clip on, and downloaded Podrunner from I tunes or the Podrunner site,   they are free, a new one every week.   I use the slower paced ones 135 -145 beats per minute.

My kids think Ive totally lost it - cant believe old mum is listening to 'trance' music - they call it.   It like having a running companion.

Weight is totally stuck, Im going to get a doctors check, I must be doing something very wrong, loads of exercise, loads of water, eating good food, 1200 - 1500 max, no chocolate, cut my portions, loads of veg, down four pounds, up four pounds..... very frustrating.

Down 4.5 lb first week, wonderful feeling.  I know it wont be that much next week, but very encouraging, especially as the eating more but the right stuff seems to work.   We entertained and went out for a meal twice in the week so it works......

Hope you other Monday Club people are as happy this sunny Monday morning.

149 this am - amazing results for the first week, three pounds off and not even Monday.

I still can barely believe that eating more, but eating right and counting every bite has made such a difference.

Ill stay with the 150's until this is stabilised, as I still dont quite believe it.....

where do you get choc. tea?  please

I feel a bit unwell today - getting the cold everyone else has I think - just woke up from a long sleep midday - and wanted chocolate.

However, have made a low calorie hot chocl drink, by 'Options".  It satisfies the choc. craving that is only usually satisfied by the good dark stuff.  However, watch the directions - says three teaspoons, but two mean level teaspoons make up the 11g which is 40 calories, and makes a good mug of hot chocolate.   I will now be very careful to weigh and not guess.

DONT GIVE UP -  You will feel more positive once the scales move down a pound again - how often are you standing on them - I can fluctuate by 5lb a day quite easily and it can be depressing - only fluid retention, or a food you dont tolerate too well.  Drink more.

Hello

Good day so far, walked on Hampstead Heath as the sun finally shone this afternoon and the wind dropped for a few hours.   Blew away some cobwebs and spin class tonite.   No class since Saturday as too many commitments and one class was cancelled.

Nothing like a walk on a hill to cheer me up.

Havent planned dinner, but been out all day - soup and a slice of bread for lunch - no idea how many calories in it.   But asked in Starbucks how many cals in a 'skinny' muffin - only..... wait for it.....325!! so I said no of course.

Caused hilarity in the line - everyone started to ask about cals and most things were less than the 'skinny' muffins!!

Have a good day

PS  no exercise on your excellent aims for this week list....  I think that is probably the most important one to try and increase?

Hi Poo?!  great idea

Id like to join this buddy group, also started seriously counting this week.   To many years - too many diets.

I read the threads about undereating and that then a couple of biscuits amounts to a binge for a body in starvation mode, so Im trying to keep to 1200-1400 approx. daily and see what happens.   Its more than I usually eat, but more 'real' food, trying for as many A's as possible, and weighing everything.  Eating more often but smaller amounts throughout the day to stop the hungry grab for something.

It is taking me a long time to find the calorie count for everything, does anyone know how to change to grams from metric in the food counter place?   I have tagged this site.

Start weight 156lb  aim for 127 by latest September, but summer would be nice.

Thanks all, note for Glad - I wouldnt get one at home, apart from the expense, the class is what is fun.

Hard work, dripping finish, but with most teachers well trained motivating and you work much harder than you can drive yourself.   Also the social element is uplifting, the endorphins kick in at about ten minutes in and everyone whoops and encourages each other.   I recommend it, especially if you are trying to lift depression, you cant not  feel better after a class.
Fitness Gym Water Bottle Recommendations? Jan 08 2007

Putting bought plastic bottles of water in the freezer is not a good idea, the plastic bottle deteriorates and leaches nasty stuff into the water.  Reusing the bottles ditto.

Sports bottles with teat type tops which close wash well in dishwasher.  Buy a screw top one or you can get a cool shower....

Spent hours on this site today and cooked in between, very encouraging, but takes ages to work out calorie counts to start with, especially as I like to cook from scratch mainly.   It appears that I have been grossly undereating, but still gaining weight despite doing hour spin classes four times a week.

My poor body must have been in starvation? mode for years - will it ever recover?
