| That wasn't very encouraging. Obviously, I know someone who is 250 pounds that works out 2 hrs a day should be eating waaayyy more than 1200, but that is a number thrown around frequently and I assumed since I am so close to my goal weight that would work as a minimum. | |||

I appreciate the advice, and everything considered I am still at a normal weight. I am about a size 8 right now, and most of my clothes are 6. It could be that this is my set point, but I am hoping counting calories (and not taking that 2nd helping of dinner every night, not eating that late night snack) will be the problem solver. I think I gained weight because I stopped counting and became less conscious of what I was eating. |

| Weight Loss | Should I quit watching the scale for a bit? | Oct 27 2009 14:14 (UTC) |

Wow good for you, you are my height and at my goal weight!!! Sooo jealous!! :) (I'm stuck stuck stuck at 135) I would do two things, keep an eye on the scale and use some kind of clothing. Because you could gain weight from muscle but a pair of jeans could be the same or even get looser. I would still keep an eye on the scale tho, because that's how I let my weight creep back up again... my guess is you will lose a few pounds after doing weight training for awhile??? But everyone is different. Keep up the weights for SURE tho, muscle totally transforms your body and you will look great no matter what the scale says! |

I have a worse situation.... my husband is also 5'9", but comes to about 275. I can't offer a lot of encouragement, we have had HUNDREDS of weight/exersise conversations, and what it comes down to is I married him for his personality, not his physique. Yes it does sortof suck that I love fitness and being healthy, and he doesn't, and yep it would definetly suck if he got health problems because of his weight- but me nagging him just causes more strain on our relationship. I have learned to accept him as he is and just try to set the best positive example as I can for him, and hopefully some day he will come around. Hopefully yours isn't as stubborn as mine :) ha ha. |

I completed my first 10 mile race... finished at 1:39:05, no walk breaks at all!!! :) :) A couple years ago, it was hard to run for 2 minutes straight. Unfortunately, I think all the training for the race made me slack on weight lifting, I have lost some muscle definition as well have put on 10 lbs in the last few months :( Back to work!! This time in the weight room, not the pavement! |

That is such good advice! Don't over think it, just get back in your good habits. That is my problem...... I have been overthinking / obsessing / stressing which makes me anxious and eat even MORE... so I just need to shut up and do my work, and not worry about it :) |

I have a friend who is 26 and she has never even held hands with anyone, and not by her choice. Sometimes you need to evaluate yourself, are you a person YOU would want to be in a committed relationship with? You are only hurting yourself if you sugar coat any issues you have as a person or partner. |

Sorry! I live in the twin cities area of minnesota. It is getting to be around 80 but lately has been 60-70 and rainy. I already have a plot, there were patio bricks on it that we took off and it is a perfect square of dirt- I dug a tiny bit and there is good looking black soil. |

Some body shapes are different too.... I mean the less fat you have the more defined you will be, obviously, but everyone's body holds onto fat in certain areas. Try squats, lunges, and deadlifts if you haven't already. |

| Weight Loss | What is your strategy to a healthy lifestyle? | Dec 30 2008 16:23 (UTC) |

For me it started about two years ago- I have always been trying to lose weight and exersise but I decided for a whole month I would focus on two words: HEALTH and BALANCE. So that's what I did- paid attention to the health content and portion size of the food for the whole month without worrying about losing weight and it helped me to get into it. Then I started counting calories and working out more- key word MORE- I decided if I was paying for a gym membership I would need to go 5 times a week, and I made myself stay there about an hour each time. Key for me in losing weight has been weights and cardio- whenever I did cardio I did it for 45 minutes no matter what or how slow I went. When I first started I could barely jog for 5 minutes and working my way up minute by minute now I can jog/run 45 minutes. Measuring your progress not only by pounds but by how your workouts are improving really helps! I'm still not at my goal weight but it took me about 6 months to lose 20 pounds and I am super proud of myself :) Of course I've gained 5 back since then and am trying to get back into the calorie counting aspect!!!! It's a lifelong battle! |

You're right, i have a shake after every weight workout (2 evenings) but I also have one most mornings, simply for getting more protein in my day. |

in answer to umneydurak, I am currently doing NROL4W (hence the protein shake every morning) but my weight workouts are with a friend two nights a week. So my morning workouts would be cardio- either 20 min of HIIT or 45 min of steady cardio. Hence the energy need thing... I guess I'll have to try a few things and see what works best. thanks! |

Hi guys, I am planning on starting this next week and I recruited a friend to do it with me so I don't look so retarded trying to figure out the gym equipment! With our schedules and living far apart it's hard for us to meet more than twice a week to workout. The book does say that 2 times a week will work... just curious if anyone here only does 2 or any opinions of 2 vs. 3? |

Emily I am getting stressed just thinking about it! I think I'm going to start next week but the rest of this week I think I will be glued to the stair stepper!! Old habits die hard... I still want to do *some* cardio on the program. Maybe 2 days lift and 2 days interval cardio. Anyways I figure I'll try it, even if it bombed completely (which it won't) I can always go back to doing what I did before. |

Yes, that makes sense, thanks to both. I just wish I could afford a trainer to show me how to do some of these... I will have to watch lots of online videos I guess. I also downloaded those forms, I think that will help a lot! Thank you! Just curious- what is everyone planning on doing after this program? I know I have 6 months of this to go but can you repeat all the stages with just heavier weights? Or are you moving on to a new program? |

I started reading this book last night- does it get any less CONFUSING and OVERWHELMING?????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!&nb sp; I am freaking out just looking at the workout charts, starting to figure them out but what does it mean alternating sets, one exersise then the next then repeat? Also for nutrition, is it ok if I just aim to get 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight? (with a recovery shake after lifting of course) I already eat pretty healthy but it's hard with my life to count every ratio of carb/protein/fat. I am debating returning this book as I am freaked out. Maybe I should just continue what I'm doing and lose the last few pounds on my own? (chickening out)... help! |

Hello! After reading all these posts, I REALLY want this book! I am wondering if it is really for me? I would consider myself between a begginer and advanced for a weight lifter- I have been lifting twice a week for a couple years. I only want to lose 5-10 pounds but really want to improve my physical strength and get even more definition, hence the draw for me on this book. But I have never been a good "book follower"- I'll read them but not be motivated to follow every step/exercise exactly, and I'll end up doing my own thing for my workouts. Also, since I am BROKE, where do you think the cheapest place is to get it? (I already checked my library- not there :( ) |

| Weight Loss | "Goal Weight" - How do you know when you're there? | Sep 23 2008 19:51 (UTC) |

I wouldn't let comments like "You're fading into nothing" bother you at all! (Unless you are but sounds like you are fine.) Weight loss is just shocking when people are used to you being heavier, and it could be a little jealousy too. My mom has half heartedly questioned me being anorexic when in reality I only lost about 15 pounds and stayed at that healthy weight for 2 years!!! In answer to your question... I did "feel it". I am 5'5.5" and my goal weight was always 120 when in reality I was 140/145... Well I got to 128 and one day looked in the mirror and thought, WOW I feel REALLY GOOD about what I'm looking at. And I felt confident and great. I always felt that I needed to lose a few more pounds to be "perfect" but at 128 I felt "good enough" if that makes sense. Now I am like 133 and my goal for the winter is to lose 5-8 pounds to get back in that area. I still feel good about myself but I would rather lose 5 pounds today than 20 pounds tomorrow ya know? |

So you can log your weight -- which allows you to do the following:
- Plot your weight curve
- Analyze the trend of your weight (see under Recent in the figure above)
- Determine the projected target date (see under Overall in the figure above)
