Im also a member of the skinny-fat club. How do you measure your body fat percentage, and how do you lower it? |

Apparently this is what I am. I am classified as "underweight" but I still have some rollage on my belly. Apparently we have to get our butts in the gym to solve this problem (so people say). Boooo gyms. lol But good for you realizing that being healthy is more important than being skinny. Good luck with your endeavors! |

I dont want people to think a have a complex... I think the BMI thing is misleading. maybe it factors in that a person has more muscle than I do. I dont exercise nearly as often as I should... if I build muscle then I can lose weight and still be healthy? yes? |

thanks for that information from the world health organization. My BMI said underweight too (5' 9'' 130) and I know i dont look underweight. I definitely still have a spare tire, so that classification was odd to me. Thanks for the info!! |

| I'd just like to point out how disrespectful it is to call "little habits" obsessive compulsive disorder. OCD is a devastating disease that takes over people's lives. Wanting to tear off the edges of a paper is to OCD as wearing glasses is to being blind. | |||

Honey you have GOT to start living your life for yourself. Youre 20? Thats really scary that your parents have that much control over you. What happens when you get out into the "real" world? I think you should go to the co-ed gym. |

| you should have a serious talk with your whole family. Chances are, if your sister doesnt change now she will always struggle with weight. Maybe if you get some other adults in the family in on it? Like a grandparent or uncle or aunt? Good luck! | |||

If you run that much youre gaining some serious muscle. (thats awesome!) So whatever weight youre losing in fat youre probably gaining in muscle which is why the number stays the same. Muscle is significantly more dense than fat. You need to actually measure your body fat with one of those pinchy machines or track inches instead of pounds. I bet youve lost some serious fat off of your body and I bet your waist line has gotten smaller - its just not showing up on the numbers. Do some research on tyra banks. She said on her show that she weighs 160 and I was like WHAT? Im the same height as her and I weight 152 and my body does not look like hers at all, lol. But she was explaining that she works out everyday and if you look at her, you can see her arm and leg muscle. So she "weighs more" than me, but LOOKS a hell of a lot skinner. So give yourself a pat on the back, youre doing awesome! |

| Weight Loss | Not Eating Works Better Than Exercising For Me =( | Jan 29 2008 16:13 (UTC) |

And see, when you go super low on calories for a couple of days and then go back to normal, your body is in starvation mode and will hold onto those calories for dear life. I did the same thing... Id do like 800 calories for a while and then feel bad and go back to normal (like 1400 according to the calculator on here) and my metabolism would be all messed up because of it. I didnt lose any weight that way. So, my point is that restricting your calories to under 1200 will help you in the short run but not in the long run. plus sometimes its better to not lose as much weight as fast, but know that youre being healthy about it. good luck! |

I keep hearing people talk about that stuff, is it like the "hollywood diet" drink? But anyways, you could lost 10 pounds in a month, youre just going to have to be pretty hardcore about what you eat! Good luck! |

| you guys are awesome! Thanks for the recomendations. I was actually under the impression that starches gave you the most energy/fullness but apparently its quite the opposite. That explains a lot! I never really think about fiber. I actually really hate vegetables, but i guess ill have to force myself to eat them so i can have a higher volume of food for lower calorie costs. Thanks for all the great ideas guys :) | |||

I had the same problem, college student, dont really have the money to buy expensive healthy foods etc. I started talking to my mom about how i wanted to try to be healthy and talked to her about some awesome salads i ate at school or a good workout i did or whatever. when i lost some weight she saw the difference it made and she got motivated to be healthier too. She started buying less chips and more salad and shes also lost a few pounds. See if you can get your parents to join you with your lifestyle change. |

| Im so glad that someone else feels this way!!! I have always been very flat chested and now im losing weight and its even worse. Its so embarassing, its like im not saying that i want to look like some bikini model, but im a 20 year old woman and i look like a teenage boy. im going to totally try the push ups and stuff... anyway, im glad im not the only one who feels this way! | |||
| Motivation | Dealing with unsupportive friends/family (semi-rant) | Jan 14 2008 20:37 (UTC) |

| Yeah thats pretty ridiculous. I have the same problem, I live with a roommate in a dorm room the size of a prision cell. She weighs at least 300 lbs... and she gets that way by ordering pizza, chinese, etc to our room all the time ("oh i cant eat all of this, do you want the last piece of delicious cheesey pizza?") while i sit there with my very sad salad. It sounds to me like your family/friends are almost resenting you for trying to be healthy. If they know you are dieting why on earth would they bring you free fast food or hassel you about not exercising. Its like they think you are trying to be better than them, and theyre pissed off about, so theyre going to sabatoge your progress. I think you should call them out and ask them if you dieting makes them feel inferior/upset whatever. Or maybe see if they would like to go exercising with you sometime, maybe if they were involved with your healthy lifestyle they would be less likely to judge you. Anyway, good luck :) | |||

| Ive been having the exact same thing! (In fact i have a headache right now, sigh.) I was starting to get really worried i had some serious blood sugar thing or something, but like with you, it doesnt just happen if i havent eaten, when i eat, etc. etc. it just happens randomly. I have decided that it is probably just stress and lack of sleep for me. But thank you to the people who responded and said to drink more water, thats a really good idea and something i hadnt thought of. :) | |||

I have the same problem. Its not even really a matter of discipline either, if you go out, there are sooo few options at restaraunts to eat right. Or like if youre with a group of people who order a pizza, what are you supposed to do? Say, no Ill just sit here and watch you all eat? Cause that doesnt sound standoff-ish at all. Its very frusterating. I feel like the only way ill lose weight is if i just stop eating entirely. Sigh. Sorry this didnt help at all, im just complaining. |

Is my sodium intake too low?
You have nothing to worry about because sodium deficiency is extremely rare. In fact, there is not even an recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA... Read more
