I was convinced that the green skin on a cucumber was poisonous! I couldn't figure out why some people would serve cucumber slices with them still on! So my brother (who was just as convinced as I was) would nibble the white stuff out of the middle and leave the green skin in a pile. |

Today is finally warming up, but the last few days, we've had windchills of -50 C When it gets that cold, I always feel like baking! So, now when I get the urge to whip up a batch of cookies, I whip up a batch of soup instead. |

Out of sight, out of mind....I would toss it, give it away, or if you have kids or someone at home who can eat the cookie, tuck it away for them. Don't skip on a healthy supper for some measly little cookie! |

| Vegetarian | Tips on going vegetarian when hubby wants meat? | Jan 04 2009 18:11 (UTC) |

I've been a veggie for about 20 years and I've been married to a "meatatarian" for about 10 years. For suppers, since that is our big meal of the day, for him and the kids I plan a meat dish, and then the sides I tend to gear more towards myself. Always include veggies - whether as a cooked side dish or simply cut them up and serve them raw. We don't eat a lot of casserole-type dishes here. I also enjoy making large batches of vegetarian soup and always have some ready in the fridge for myself for those meals that are mainly meat. Also, you can whip up a batch of greek salad in no time and it can keep in the fridge for a few days also. |

I'm a volunteer pet "chauffeur" for a local pet rescue, and I've taken many cats, dogs to the vet. I do have my faves, like Sterling, the kitten who purred so much that the vet had to get her a drink of water just to hear her heartbeat or Nancy, an extremely malnourished pointer who wagged her tail the whole time and insisted on sitting in my lap. I took a Shep X once with my son, who was horrified when the dog had his ears cleaned then shook his head only to have black gunk flying everywhere! Or Navy and Cobalt, two puppy brothers who'd never been on leash before and took me nearly 30 minutes to drag/coax them to the front door! |

I almost always have my own meals ready. I make supper for my family, but make sure there's a good alternative for myself. It took awhile, but I did finally manage to get over feeling silly about digging out the measuring cups and measuring a portion to meet my calorie counting needs! |

I've been a vegetarian for 20 years, and it started simply because I just didn't like it. It becomes quite second nature to attend a big meal and scope out the meat-free stuff. My family is so used to it and now that there are other family members the same, that we always make sure to make two different versions if need be - one with meat, one without. I'm not hardcore, I don't avoid gelatin, or dairy, etc, because I could see where it would be so hard to maintain. |

I am a salt fan! So I miss... Old Dutch Onion and Garlic Chips As time goes on though, I find myself craving the bad stuff less and less and craving the good feeling of success the next day! J |
