It's because you are gaining muscle in exercising. It's a good thing. A common myth is that muscle weighs more than fat...Not true. It is more dense, but weighs the same. So that is why you are looking better. Things will even out and you will have whoosh probably overnight sometime. Keep up with what you are doing and watch your clothes and not the scale.

Do you make this stuff up? A pound of feathers weighs the same as a pound of lead. I wonder how density fits into this equation? Muscle weighs more than fat because it is more dense (or more mass per unit of area) and thus the whole gravity thingy kicks in from there.

Talk to ANY trainer. It's a myth...Do the research. It weighs the same YES it's more dense, but that makes it smaller. That's pretty rude by the way to accuse someone of making something up.

I am a scientist - when I need to talk science, the last person I ask is a trainer. I do research, all day every day. It is even ruder to proclaim something is a myth, without a viable source.

well then I bow to the scientist...You should write books on nutrition with those qualifications...

Air weighs more than water - that is a fact. But a bucket of air weighs less than bucket of water.

Why is that?

Weight and density are always synonymous – because mass is density per unit of volume and weight is the effect of gravity on mass.

how is the world do you have the qualifications to argue with board certified doctors, nutritionist and person trainers? Just curious...

Weight Loss Do you burn extra calories while in a steam room? Dec 11 2007

Have you sat in a sauna and measure your heart rate? Is does raise and for me significantly. When your heart rate raises, your body needs more oxygen to thus creating a calorie burning environment. I wasn't saying it burns alot, but yes it does burn more than just sitting. Do the science and the research-or ask a trainer they will tell you.

Actually you do burn more than you would just sitting at your house. It's true though you will lose weight, but it's water. But, when you do burn more calories. It's not as significant as the article below, but it does help a little. It should not be a substitute for exercise, cause that burns way more. But it's nice that you can sit, enjoy, and even burn a little more. But yeah, any weight you lose will be from water mostly if not all.

Here is the general consensus of what I have read.

A Sauna assists in weight loss in three significant ways:

1. It effectively reduces heavy metals which have been directly related to metabolic imbalances in the body causing poor digestion and weight gain.

2. It decreases fat stored (lipophilic) toxins. Often weight loss cannot be accomplished unless these toxins are first removed.

3. Although weight loss due to perspiration (water loss) is quickly regained, sending more blood to the capillaries and converting fats and carbohydrates results in as much as 600 calories burned during one short sauna session.

2200 is alot, but there are days when you won't exercise. You will mess with your metabolism if you do 1200 I assure you. Try 1600...That's easy to eat that much. One whole wheat sandwhich with low fat turkey and low fat mayo is like 400 calories. It's not that hard to get your calories in.

800 is way to low and is not healthy at all. I would say that 1200 is not healthy. Use some of the calculators made available on this site. That will tell you how much to intake and lose that weight.

If this is happening alot with that breakfast, it means you need more protein. Protein last longer in the body and gives you a feeling of feeling fuller. I think people should eat a larger breakfast and smaller lunch and dinners. A lot of people's life styles do not allow for that. So anywayz, eat more protein.

Are the mini wheats frosted? They are probably full of sugar, that's the first thing i would nix. There are tons of low calorie cereals if you like cereal too much to give it up. If you are willing to give it up, try having tons more protein for breakfast. My nutritionist said that should be your biggest meal filled with tons of protein. It will keep you full longer. Try some turkey bacon and eggs or oatmeal. I eat a HUGE bowl of oatmeal for breakfast. Quaker makes  a lower sugar maple brown sugar one that is awesome. I put a banana in it and I am set for HOURS and feel great.

Yeah eat what is says. It may seem like a lot, but you DO NOT want your body to get used to living on 1,000 calories. Your body needs 1200 just to function properly.
Weight Loss is this good or too little..? Dec 03 2007

Yeah it's too little. You're body need a MIN of 1200 just to function the organs properly. You may not be hungry, but your body needs the nutrients. If you want to lose weight, you have to eat. I know it's a paradox, but it's true. That's really good that you ate small meals throughout the day. See the bad thing about eating to little calories some days is that it messes with your metabolism. Your metabolism is like a fire that needs food to keep going. That is of course within a calorie parameter. You should figure out what your goal weight is and eat those calories. Make sure it's balanced and full of fiber. You will reach your goal and you will be healthy. Oh and exercise, but you may have to increase your calories on days you do.

First of all 1400 would be low for a day with that much activity. Yes you gained, but it's water. It's not physically possible for that to be from food. You would have had to have eaten 24,500 calories and you didn't. Don't worry, your problem should not be with the amount of calories you ate, but what those calories were made of. It's not the end of the world. You control your body, eating and emotions about those two not your food.

What are your calories? How are your clothes? I would bet that you've lost inches. You aren't special :) I know that sounds bad, but hear me out. You are doing what you should by diet and exercise...that's enough. You can't defy physics. Now if this goes on for more than 2 months. I mean two months with no pounds and no inches than you need to see a Dr...You may have a thyroid problem that is messing with your metabolism. Just remember it's not about the lbs. You have made AMAZING choices about your diet and exercising. You are getting healthy. You are winning!

How long have you been working out? How are your clothes fitting? Remember it's not about the number at all...It's not about losing weight. It's about being healthy. If you do it for that reason, it's more likely something you can stick with. If you are burning between 800-1500 calories per workout session, yeah wow don't worry the weight will come off. Even if you were eating 2000 calories a day, you would still lose. You may be overworking out, but I wouldn't worry just yet.

Muscle weighs the same as fat..You must be exercising and gaining muscle. Muscle is more dense and smaller than fat, but they weigh the same. The weight from muscle just takes up less room. So no worries, pay attention to your clothes more than the scale. The scale is an evil liar most of the time.

It's hard to say without knowing your stats...Age, weight, height etc. I think it's too low, since your body needs 1200 just to function and that's a min. If you are exercising, that number is even higher. You need to find something sustainable for life.

It takes 3500 calories to equal one pound. Unless you ate 21,000 calories, I would say it's water...no worries.
