| you can lose weight quickly through crash diet or lots of exercise, but when you're at your goal and start eating/exercising normally again you'll put it back on. the only way to lose weight for the long term and keep it off is by a balanced and healthy routine of diet AND exercise, not either/or. the faster you take off the faster you usually put back on. you should eat healthily like you say you are, but start incorporating exercise into your routine and the weight will probably come off again. | |||

| thanks for all the advice...
idif70, i doubt i'm a lot taller if grow at ALL! my sister is 10 and she has the same foot size as me...and my parents are no giants. no one in my family is really that big so i'm gunna have to get used to this kind of height probably. to everyone, i'm not dieting as such just watching what i eat. coz i used to swim i would eat a lot of crap and when i stopped i still ate a lot of crap. i'm just eating healthier but being conscious of calories too. no harm, ey? |

| you shouldn't weigh yourself more than once a week. i used to weigh myself every day but it was so up and down in little amounts that it got me annoyed and discouraged. little things like how much water you are holding, even what you're WEARING can change the scales. just go for once a week in the mornings when you wake up and you'll see bigger differences and be more confident about what you're doing. | |||

| not 100% about cravings, but it certainly fixes your hunger. there's that old saying that if you wait 20 mins your cravings can go away. water always fills you up and tea is primarily water, so it's just a more interesting way to keep full. | |||
| Weight Loss | Can anyone explain Normal Calorie Expenditure | Jan 30 2007 07:38 (UTC) |

| i'm not 100% but i think it just means how many calories you burn by just being alive. did they ask you to estimate how much time you spent doing various activities like sleeping and sitting everyday? our bodies are always burning calories to keep us functioning..that could be it. computers usually base it on height, weight and age. i'm not sure though - try google | |||

| i luv this thread!
being 15 i'm of course observing a lot of fashion, and am so picky and have so many peeves it's insane! some of them are because i like high fashion and individuality, so may not be shared. also not everyone will be familiar with australian clicky trends....so here goes i seriously need to vent. 1. CROCS - i totally agree! they piss me off! i excuse anybody who is going on a boat or is hanging around by slippery pool tiles like a swimming coach BUT NOT a family going out to dinner! IT'S ATROCIOUS! i was out at a chinese restaurant that called on presentable-smart dressing, and a family of 2 young kids and their parents walk in with friggen crocs on. it looks tacky and cheap and hillbilly-ish: don't go there people 2. LUV-HANDLES - that muffin thing is funny. but yeah they tick me off 2...and it's kinda gross 2 3. 2 MUCH MAKE UP - some girls just wear so much make up its insane. like just going to the movies with 1 FRIEND, no, not a pack of guys or even an all girl gathering, if they are out with even 1 person they cake on so much foundation when you peck them on the cheek you almost pass out cuz of the smell and get it all over your OWN cheek. even in front of people you wanna impress it looks hookerish - plus if they ever see you with NO makeup you'll b below their standard of how they view you. makes sense to wear little/no make up then build from there 4. MINI TRIHARDS - when i see little 10yrold or even 8yrold kids walking round in skinny jeans it pains me, coz they think they're being all fashionable and glam but it just looks STUPID! that is the golden age where you can get away with cutesy stuff and almost anything, whyyyy skinnies? they don't have curves, they don't even have boobs!!! stick to flower dresses for that age geeeeez 5. OVERNIGHT BAGS 4 FASHION - i dunno bout anywhere else but in sydney right now there is this thing with big 'country road' (brand) bags as a handbag. their purpose is for overnight use, not mobile money and lipgloss!!! so coz all her friends hav it my stupid sis goes and blows 50 buks on this bag so she can cart it round....which leads to..... 6. FOLLOWERS - i HATE people who follow a particular person or a crowd cuz its 'cool'. like my luvly sister. evry1 has country road bag, get country road bag. evry1 has this perfume, get it etc etc....espesh if its just to be 'cool'. get a life and an opinion! 7. LEGGINGS UNDER SKIRTS - sienna miller did it, lindsay lohan killed it. it's dead. give up. of course i agree with everything else that's been said really....but those r the first ones that come to mind that as you can see i have a 'strong' opinion about. im sure ppl have things to pick about my fashion sense but hey........what can ya do? |

i'm only 15!!!!!! i'm joining a gym but to make sure i don't get bored i'm gonna stay glued to my ipod. are you an aussie? coz if you are you can join fitness first. they give you earphones that you can plug into your machine and tune in to a number of different big TVs along the wall. you can watch the simpsons...the news...sports...or the music channel while you're running! certainly NOT boring. i'm sure they have something like that in america too. |

| grrrr how irritating. you can reassure yourself with a couple of things: 1. they are getting old and eye-sight is going backwards :P 2. they feel they need to dote upon their son. maybe they can't really tell - they're just saying it to be ego-building parents!? 3. i'm pretty sure OTHER people tell you how great you look and... 4. YOU'RE the one who knows you're 20lbs lighter. that's what counts! congrats and keep it up! |

| i AM a big fruit and veggie eater now i'm eating healthier, but i've always had a bloat so the diet change shouldn't be the issue.

| Fitness | Working out for a teen in highschool, help! | Jan 28 2007 05:46 (UTC) |
|
| hey!
i'm also a teen in highschool - sucks to be us huh? are you an unhealthy eater? coz diet changes for the long run is important. but you've gotta commit. you should eat a good healthy breakfast, like i have a glass of milk and some cereal and fruit. bring your lunch to school instead of going to the canteen. you can pack healthier stuff like veggies and fruit for snacks. if you keep it up long enough you'll start to crave fruit over junk like me haha. exercising can be hard to get into coz you get tired after a long day at school, but after getting into a routine it's a lot easier. i know what you mean by not having too much time - i have the most packed schedule ever! But getting out and going for a fast walk or run for just 30mins with some music is a good way to take a break from studying or homework and you can fit it in anywhere. plus going out later like 630 or 7 isnt bad coz the sun isn't in your face and it's less hot. otherwise you can do easy things like crunches in tv ad breaks, or incorporating walking into your travel arrangements. good luck! |

| Fitness | how long after the flu should I start working out again | Jan 28 2007 05:36 (UTC) |

| simple - when you start to feel better.
you should start eating properly again because that will give you some more energy. starchy carbs are good if you're worried about keeping food down - like bread is good. are you still feeling sick? cuz brushing your teeth and taking a shower can make you feel better :). always drink lots of water to keep yourself hydrated. when you feel like exercising again, don't do your usual distance or intensity. start of slowly and shorten the time you workout, then build your body back up to speed. feel better! |

| i find techno and hip hop to be great. 'angry' hip hop really motivates you heaps.
eg 'ante up' - m.o.p sometimes i find myself running along the footpath and mouthing the lyrics. it's kind of that call response shout rap that has a really strong beat and gets you going. also tunes from the NBA that they use in warm up like 'ready for this'. i found this great mix on limewire that uses call response and i'll screaming it out sprinting up a hill haha. more... i like that - jae millz (step up soundtrack) flipside - freeway drop - timbaland, fatman scoop NBA jams played alive - safri duo |

| Weight Loss | how 2 stop night time binges!?!?!?!?!?! | Jan 25 2007 12:09 (UTC) |

| hmm well i go for my run at about 7 coz the sun's down and it's not as hot. it's holidays right now (but not for long) so i'm in bed about 1130 - 12 - 1230. depends. ill have dinner after my run so it's about 8 till when i sleep. i'd usually be on the computer in my room upstairs or watching tv. i think that's the problem - if i'm upstairs on the computer i won't feel the need to walk to the kitchen coz my bed's right there to sleep in after i'm done on comp. but when i watch tv the kitchen is only a few steps away and if my parents are in bed early.....well they can't stop what i eat haha. ice cream...bread...chocolate biscuits....whatevers around really i'll eat. | |||
| Weight Loss | I made a post yesterday and again, I need help. | Jan 19 2007 11:41 (UTC) |

| hey adrienne,
you're doing the worst thing ever - you've gotta stop. i'm basically just like you - 15, 5'4 and 136lbs. Starving yourself is terrible because your body goes into 'starvation mode'. because you're not feeding yourself, your body thinks that it's gunna be the norm (which you're making it) and adjusts so it doesn't burn as many calories. so if you start eating again you'll put on heaps more weight coz your metabolism is wrecked. and you don't wanna go on starving yourself for the rest of your life cuz it SUCKS. but coz you're young you can change it all around. the main rule is: you put out what you put in. don't eat unless you're hungry, but if you ARE hungry, eat something. never deny yourself. but make it healthy and have it fill you up. i like to have a piece of fruit or some yoghurt. also tea is really good cuz its just water, will fill you up and ALL of them are low cal. also i started the turnaround in the summer hols so i could go for a 30 minute run everyday and the exercise DEFINATELY helped. i gotta commend your willpower though to stick to it - cuz it proves you can stick to a plan. so cuz you got the will, you should definately get started on a healthier plan that has a healthy balanced diet and exercise. you'll get toned and always be satisfied hunger wise. it's not healthy to lose more than 2lbs a week - it won't come fast but the faster you lose weight the faster you're more likely to put it back on. slow and steady wins the race! good luck |

| Weight Loss | i just wanna cry im so upset with myself | Jan 19 2007 11:33 (UTC) |

| heyy,
if you wanna lose weight you don't even have to start exercising yet - just start eating healthier. but you should incorporate a little exercise into every day, even if it's just 15-30 minutes. if you're guna change it has to be a lifestyle change for the better but it's sooooooooooooo hard to start - believe me i know. i was ok for like 2 days but then i'd binge myself silly. apparantly if you eat something long enough you start to crave it more than something else - thats what i did with fruit. it's sweet but good for you and after a while a nectarine was so much more appealing than a bag of lollies. good luck |

| thnx 4 your advice - the funny thing about seeing a doctor is that BOTH my parents are doctors.
my mum's a gp and i talked to her about the whole eating less calories and metabolism stuff. she said it's all about expending as putting out as much as you put in. So if you eat a whole ton of crap you've gotta b willing to work off that ton of crap. |

| Weight Loss | those evening cravings....its a killer!! | Jan 12 2007 11:01 (UTC) |
|
| what i do when i get evening cravings is go straight to the teapot. my mum has all these sweet things like TV snacks (chocolate covered biscuit things that are so small you just keep popping them!) and whatnot. but i'm like you - in front of the TV i just need 2 eat something haha. so i make some tea and sweeten it with 4 Equal artificial sweeteners. they have only 1.7 calories as opposed to sugar which has like a gazillion. so it's sweet and warm and fills you. | |||
