Actually, some people DO eat the skin! Just slice off the ends and cut in half and enjoy. I enjoy it. It is the only way I have ever eaten it.
The Lounge Buying a 2009 Camry Hybrid... any thoughts? Jun 11 2008

It sounds like a lot of people are against hybrids. I have an '07 Prius that I love. No downside from my point of view (at least for me). It does not lack power. It does NOT plug in (the 2010 Pruis is not supposed to be a plug in, they are talking about poss an additional model that is optional plug in). It gets awesome gas mileage and is very roomy inside. Everyone has their preferences, but I know that my husband is spending about 4 x more in gas than I for comparable mileage.

I drove a Camry hybrid "loaner" while I was waiting for my Prius. It was okay, but my preference is the Prius.

Not sure if you are overreacting, not really enough information.

My 2 cents: My husband and I always had (and still do) a joint account. I paid household bills from that and took care of the budget. He ended up opening a separate account that we have "his" budgeted money deposited into. He has expenses that he needs to have access to cash for and when he would take it out of our joint account, he would sometimes (a lot) forget to record it. So, in the interest of keeping up with finances, we opted for this. He still forgets to keep track of things at times, but it is in his account and doesn't end of affecting our house payment or something like that.

Some couples work better with separate accounts, some with joint and some with a combination. I would sit down and talk with him and find out his reasons. Perhaps that would help you understand.

By the way, we had only a joint account for 15+ years into our marriage. For us, this works because he doesn't feel like he has to "ask" me for money and I don't have to worry about a check/payment not going through because he forgot to account for cash he needed.

Usually the prepared mixes call for water/oil/eggs (and that is what the diet coke replaces) but this one also says unsweetened chocolate and cream....not sure how it would turn out but you should try it and tell us!

For those that are skeptical about Enell for larger sizes, I was too...until I tried them. I couldn't find anything else that would come close to fitting me as a 38 JJ. They are awesome! And, as I have gone down in sizes, I have had to get a smaller size but they work wonderfully! I could not imagine that anything could honestly work better. I have had NO complaints except when I first got it I thought it couldn't possibly work. It did and VERY well!

You can always tag your "regular" foods and if you normally eat the same condiments on your sandwich, tag them with the same "name", like ____ sandwich or ____ wrap. Then when you go to log your food, it is all right there in your tags and you click on that to add the whole sandwich (or whatever you have tagged).

I use paper and my husband doesn't ask, so he gets plastic. We use the paper for sorting our recycled items. I have purchased the reuseable bags and bring them for "small" trips.

jenmcc, I know that Sears and Kohl's both carry GV. I absolutely LOVE them! I wouldn't even wear jeans for the last few years with all the weight I had gained. Now that I have lost quite a bit (and still losing), I was excited to find them again. Good luck!

maddie, keep in mind that if you are getting a higher amount of sodium AND drinking a bit more coffee, it could be (and probably is) retained fluids. The coffee can cause a diuretic effect and then if you are getting a bit more sodium than recommended, those 2 factors together would possibly make your water "needs" increase. Try to track your sodium and if that is the case, increase your water intake to accommodate this (if you can't/don't want to decrease the sodium and caffeine).

Great job with sticking with it!

There are a lot of deficiencies that can cause problems with your nails. Check your current levels of calcium, iron, biotin, zinc and protein. Keep in mind, dry skin, hair and nail problems can also be a sign of a thyroid problem. Good luck!

Along the lines of calcium, I know you said you didn't really want to take supplements, but have you considered Viactiv? It is a calcium (and vitamin D and K0 supplement in a flavored chew. They have chocolate and caramel flavors (might have others, I am not sure) and supply 50% of each of these 3 in just one chew. They are very good, no after taste and taste somewhat like a tootsie roll but better.

Do you like cinnamon? Cinnamon is fairly high in iron and has a lot of other benefits. Goes great in oatmeal in the morning (and a lot of other things!).  http://lowcarbdiets.about.com/od/nutrition/a/ cinnamonbenefit.htm

Oh! If you need a pasta "substitute", why not try Fiber Gourmet? Lower calorie and high in fiber. My husband and I really like it!

Foods Avocado??? what kind of fat is it? Jan 24 2008

According to the Mayoclinic:

Monounsaturated fat remains liquid at room temperature but may start to solidify in the refrigerator. Foods high in monounsaturated fat include olive, peanut and canola oils. Avocados and most nuts also have high amounts of monounsaturated fat.

Just as enzyme said...

Foods Vitamins taste horrible... Jan 23 2008

The Viactiv multi chews are good and I took them for a while. However, I had to switch as they have NO Iron! I couldn't figure out why my levels were dropping (they would check when I would go donate blood) and finally dawned on me to check the vitamins. They might have changed, but they had no Iron when I was taking them. Since I was eating "healthier" and less red meat (none actually), there was a significant drop!

Just make sure you are getting enough Iron. Evidently, I wasn't!

I still take the calcium chews. They are awesome!

Fitness who exercises first thing in the morning? Jan 08 2008

I am a morning work out person too. I had to find a time when I wasn't being pulled in 10 different directions at once. Came to the realization quite quickly that it would be when everyone else is asleep. That is my time and no one bothers me. I can't go to the gym every day, so I do my treadmill every morning and then do the gym in addition on the days that I can (usually 3-4).

I feel so much better after working out and feeling like I can "cross that off my list" for the day. Even if I don't accomplish another thing, I got that done!

Good luck with the new workout. Take it slow and let your body tell you when you can add more activities or time. I started off at 260.5lbs and felt like I was slow as molassas but I don't feel uncomfortable any more, I just do my thing!

Recipes Low Cal Pie Recipes? Dec 26 2007

meleba,

I don't have an exact recipe, but I wanted to lower the calories a bit on the apple pie(s) my children wanted for Christmas (in addition to a few other kinds...) and I substituted Splenda for sugar. I also substituted eggbeaters (about 1/3-1/2 cup for 2 pies) instead of the flour and butter. It helped bind it and there was no change in taste at all. In fact, I got rave reviews. It saved a few calories...

The only things I used were the Splenda and eggbeaters (as already stated), prepared pie crusts, granny smith apples/in RealLemon and cinnamon. I mixed all of the ingredients (except the crusts : P ) in a ziplock bag to mix and then poured into the shell, topped with another and baked.

Health & Support Am I diabetic? Dec 23 2007

Unfortunately xylish, your symptoms could be caused by many different things. You have mentioned a wide variety of symptoms that could be caused by diabetes, hyperthyroid, various deficiences and too many things to mention. Depending on the severity of your symptoms, you may need to go to the ER. If they have been basically the same for a while and nothing new, then I would suggest calling your family doctor for the earliest appointment.

Good luck.
