Yes, I thought I simply couldn't tolerate milk.  Turns out I have Celiac's disease (which is simply an intolerance to gluten).  I have been gluten free for 3 weeks (per my doctor's rec) and literally it has been LIFE CHANGING.  I feel so good, I can hardly describe it.  I honestly didnt' know I was feeling that bad - other than the horrific gas and smelly flatulance.  I was tired a lot, but I thought that was just the busyness of life.  My energy level has soared since going gluten/dairy free!

It is the only "artificial" sweetener I use.  Splenda rips up my stomach.  I love the Stevia - you can even get it with added fiber.  It doesn't have a weird taste.  I use it in my coffee every day.  Sometimes I add a couple drops of the vanilla flavored liquid stevia to my oatmeal.  I really like it.  I keep some packets in my car and purse so if I get coffee somewhere like starbucks, I can use it.

organic peanut butter (love both creamy and crunchy) on apple slices or bananas.  Pretty much every day!  I feel like I am being sinful, but it isn't bad!!!

my kids love them too, so I buy some at whole foods that are organic.  At least they aren't getting artificial colors, flavors, additives, etc.  and they like them just as well.  They are high calorie, high sugar, but I do think kids need to have some treats.  I just try to keep them away from all the unnatural additives that I think are scary.

So... while you might not find "diet" options, there are some "healthier" options - at least to some degree!

Just an FYI, I still eat all the "gas causing" foods like beans and broccoli and such, and NONE of them bother me any more, since giving up dairy.  As I said, I am 35, and really didn't know I was so intolerant.  I also had no idea how much hidden dairy is in foods, until I started tracking everything I eat.  I was disgusting - and embarassed all the time.  I too felt bloated and gross.  I have been completely off dairy and sucralose for a few weeks, and I honestly feel like a different person.

A lot of people can't digest fructose well.  I thought that was the case for me, but since cutting out dairy, I can eat any fruit and be just fine.

I would guess you have a food intolerance - not an allergy - of some kind.  It can be many different things - even seasonings or additives.  Track everything you eat in a journal, and how you feel after.  Pick something you think might be the culprit and eliminate it for a week.  If there is no change, that wasn't it.  It is hit or miss, but if you find the offending food, it will make all the difference!

I have the same problem, and after a lengthy diet study, discovered I have a severe milk intolerance.  I am 35 - have been eating dairy my whole life - love ice cream, and didn't realize.  Once I cut out dairy, I was sooooooo much better.  I also discovered in all of this that I can't handle splenda / sucralose.  I have used that for years too.

The difference has literally been amazing.

I am thoroughly addicted to the Wessex 5 grain "oatmeal" (I put it in parenthesis because only one of the 5 grains is oats).  I first found it at whole foods, but now my regular grocery store carries it with their section of organic cereals.  3 minutes in the microwave!

I can't eat dairy, but I add in blueberries and strawberries, and either a bit of unsweetened applesauce or the blueberry applesauce from whole foods.  Sometimes I put some pumpkin and some nuts in it with a bit of stevia.  SO GOOD - I have it every morning after my workout and it fills me up for hours.

I feel like I have tried them all, and I am PICKY.  I get mine from www.title9.com - a women's athletic cothing store.  I personally like the "Frog Bra" - tons of support - the girls barely bounce.  I hate ANY bounce when I am running.  The thing is awesome!  It is a major masher, but when I run, that is what I want.  I buy a couple every year, and they last!

oooh, it is my new favorite!  It basically tastes like Cous Cous - but you can add stuff to it to make different side dishes.  Last night I made it and threw in (one can each): diced tomatoes, corn, chick peas, black beans, artichoke hearts and then diced an avacado and added some lemon juice.  My mother, who shuns all things healthy - loved it.  I have done it with sun dried tomatoes and feta, etc.  It is supposed to be much healthier than any other grain, and it is versatile and cooks in 10 minutes.  Be creative!  Good luck

I run and I have tried every bra out there.  My ABSOLUTE favorite is available at www.title9.com - a company for women out of Colorado.  The one that I think is best is called "The Frog Bra".  I dont' bounce at all - it has more spandex in it than most.

I am not very well endowed, but I hate any bounce when running. This thing rocks!  I buy one or two every year.  Well worth it!  I think they are in the 30-40 dollar range.  Definitely haven't found one better.

I know it was "half" pitbull because I, and animal control, spoke to the owner. He was also the owner of the pitbull mother who bred with his neighbor's lab.  I agree that the main issue is terrible pet owners.  But, I have to say, I question how anyone seeks to own a dog whose breed (obviously this applies to more than pit bulls) has had major issues with violent outbursts.  Are there dogs of all types that can react poorly?  Sure.  But there are a lot of kids in this world, and people quite frankly not only need to be good pet owners, with proper fencing, but they really need to think about finding the right dog.  I love dogs, but kids come first.  Seriously, when I heard that this dog had bitten someone else, it was all I could do to not punch the red neck in the nose.  Thankfully, my husband didn't get to meet him.  I had a huge chunk taken out of my leg.  If the neighbor had not come out, that dog would have gotten me to the ground, and he was not giving up.  So yes, people should be smart enough not to have dangerous dogs, or responsible enough to remove the possibility for problems.  But, if people were smart enough... we wouldn't have a lot of the issues we have in the world.

I own two mixed breed dogs, and have had dogs my entire life.  They are part of the family.  3 months ago, while out on a run, very close to a school, I was attacked by a dog that was half pit bull.  It came at me with the intention of attacking - it was bearing teeth from 30 yards away.  I was jogging on the opposite side of the street from its owner's house.  Thankfully, after it bit me very hard (tore skin, etc) and was leaping to get me again, a neighbor came out and helped and the dog ran back to its house.  I called animal control because I had a good wound, and my doctor had to know if the animal had its shots.  Of course, it was not up to date with vacinations.  I had to have a tetnus shots, antibiotics and put on a close watch for rabies.  The dog was put down - I was not its first victim.  Thankfully, I am fine now.  But, I am a much more hesitant runner.  Also, less than a half mile away, were my 4 and 5 year olds, in school, who have recess outside.  Yes, the owners are at fault.  They are clearly bad pet owners.  But, how many times does a certain breed need to inflict terror and pain before we are responsible citizens and protect our kids?

I am back!  I took some time off - had to stop obsessing - I was driving myself nuts.  Had some "good" food days and some bad, and generally avoided the scale.  Yesterday I agreed to run a half marathon with my 3 best childhood friends, who I rarely get to see (they all live about 800 miles away!).  I have only been running about 5 miles 3 or 4 days a week, so I have some miles to put in.  But, it is exactly what I need - I am a competitive person and very goal oriented.  So, now I have a goal.  I got on the scale this morning and weighed 132 pounds.  Not good, but not high enough to throw me into a tailspin.  So... I told my husband that I am in "training" mode for a few weeks - only one or two glasses of wine a week and much healthier food.  (he is always far more accepting of my weird eating declarations when I am planning a race or event.  He is always supportive, but he seems to understand the need to focus when there is an event involved.  Glad to see that everyone is still here and doing well!

I used to have issues with peanut butter - couldn't have it in the house because I would not stop eating it.  THEN, I got pregnant, and I allowed myself to eat it whenever I wanted... which was A LOT.  But, now it isn't something I deny, I eat the 100% natural whenever I want because I don't have to binge on it.  At least once a week, I pack a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and an apple for lunch.  I get teased by my colleagues, but it is silly how much I enjoy it!  Also, during the week, I work out at 5:30 am, so I don't eat before, but on Sat. I go a little later, so every sat morning, I have a cup of coffee and a banana slathered in peanut butter.  It is a great preworkout food and makes me feel like I am splurging.

I definitely keep trigger foods (sweets for me) out of the house, but I do realize that having gone through a pregnancy has taken the allure away from many "trigger" foods.  (and I lost the pregnacy weight easily, so don't panic!)

alexwilliams, I would imagine at 5 foot 11, you are very thin at that weight!  I bet you look fantastic!  It sounds like you are right on track.  Your body may be at its set point, and it is hard to go lower.  I think being in college hinders it too - although is sounds like you lead a much healthier lifestyle than I did in college!  Don't beat yourself up - you'll get where you want to be, but be patient.  The last couple of pounds are the slowest to come off.  Good luck!

I am glad I am not the only one who can have a great week and then have two nights of binging.  It make me so sad and mad and annoyed.  I haven't found my emotional trigger, but it is just so very frustrating.  I have only 10 pounds to lose, but I can't go long enough without binging to do it!  aghhhhhhhhhh

Yikes.  Try harder - harsh.  I had a bad night - didn't resist temptation at all and will likely be very disappointed at the weigh in tomorrow, but I am trying not to beat myself up today.  I got up and went to Body Pump this morning, packed a healthy lunch for work.  I just really struggle at 8 pm!!!!!!!!

Hmmm... "rules"?  I don't think we have any, do we?  Victoria, we appear to have the exact same frame - height and weight - and issues reducing it.  I often think, maybe I am meant to be in the low 130's, my husband seems to like it, why do I care, etc.  But I was 125 a few years back, and I just loved the feeling of pulling on jeans and having them fit great.  Of course, I hardly LOVED my body then, but I sure liked it more than I do now.  It sounds like we all work out a lot and watch what we eat most of the time (I have some late night binging issues) so WE CAN DO IT.  I spent the last year and a half running a ton, and the milage didn't really change my shape much, so now after a visit with my sister in law's very expensive trainer, I am varying my workout much more.  He made me realize that I just sort of cruise through it, without really pushing it.  I could jog for 7 miles and not really breath hard.  He suggested that I do more shorts bursts of high intensity mixed in with some steady fat burn.  It makes sense - I played college field hockey, and we ran a ton of sprints. I weighed a bit more then, but I was more muscular and drinking a LOT of beer and eating terribly (so, I wasn't exactly an all-american!) too.  But I probably ate double what I do now and only weighed a couple of pounds more.  So... I am I added a pump class two days a week (just started this week), two running days, and one day of cardio hopping (3 or 4 different machines) and one day of shorter cardio plus the weight lifting machines (6 days total).  That is my goal anyway.  I hear you about the different waist / hip size.  My thighs and hips are much bigger than my waist.  Ahghhhhhhh  glad I am not alone!
