Hey the more the merrier! :D

That's ggood on making it up Jayme, I decided i'd rather switch up today for a circuit day and do my NYCB workout on Wednesday instead! So yeah as long as we're meeting our goals and get all our planned workouts in! :)

Meg good luck!! I used to be a treadmill junkie too btw, running is something you definitely build up to and we'll be here to support you thru your mileage!!

Ok girls so far so good, it's early but i'm just excited.. i woulda totally skipped a workout tonight instead of substituting a shorter workout i'd planned already if i didn't have this to remind me how it's small wins to bigger gains...

So let's pick a day to constitute at 'end' of a workout week? friday could be a choice because it's the end of a work week.... but sunday's the official weekend... so where do u girls wanna call it a week and time for winner lists? :D choice is up to u.

good luck Jayme! guess we're alone in this for a while till it picks up... :P i don't mind if it keeps us both accountable tho and does the job anyway

Today was a break day according to my plan. Tomorrow i'm back to NYCB (toning type of ballet inspired workout)

sounds great.... for you. :) I know what P90x is, i've tried it out too with my uncle who owns it but i'm not doing it. This thread encompasses what everyone wants to do so you can choose any program you want for yourself.

awesome! Hi Jayme :)

So i did my workout for the day...

I just want to add this as an element of competition to everyone who might join:

i'll be making a list of every week's 'winners' in terms of those who stuck to their weekly schedule. :) i think we're all winning anyway with trying to stay as true to our goals as possible. It'll be cool if we all end up to a point where we've worked in our discipline to be 'winners' back to back weeks!

I'm excited for a bigger group!

Foods too much vitamin A? Nov 28 2009
17:55 (UTC)

I don't think it's a problem. If anyone here's been on accutane or roaccutane.. you'd know that isotretinoin is a really high concentrated dose of Vitamin A... and it takes months to accumulate in your system before it's effective in the long run..

you can totally have all that pumpkin... unless you were forcefeeding yourself a pile of cans a day i wouldnt call it scary (and that last bit is scary for anything..!). You can do way worse than pumpkin..!

Foods Eating 4-5 eggs a day bad? Nov 28 2009
17:50 (UTC)

Eggs contain lecithin which reduce your absorption of cholestrol, so it's fine.. But i'd like to add that if you're eating a very high sugar diet the high levels of insulin in your blood will counter that and it will be a problem.

So... body chemistry wise... no it's not a problem if the rest of your diet balances it out. As long as the rest of your diet is mainly good carbs and not a lot of refined sugar you're fine. Hope this helps!

Ill try the ostrih burgers if they taste better! :) maybe that's a good start.. the herring fillets i got were hard for me to get thru eating, i have this problem that i can't eat any meats i prepare on my own, i just get sooo grossed out. O_O this is insane..

thank you both! I'm loving the worcestshire sauce or soy sauce ideas... i don't drink/cook with wine so sherry's out lol... citrus juices are an awesome idea tho!!

unfortunately, for some reason the place i went to didn't have any ostrich/were out... so i came home with herring fillets instead!

i'm stocking up when i find it and trying it out + posting an update!!

Weight Loss Where do you lose the weight from? Jun 21 2009
09:58 (UTC)

I do ballet and I've always wondered that and asked my mom who's a doc, and the answer is that our bodies are 'smart' enough to use the fat around the areas we don't use as much as the others.. for dancers all the heavy lifting is in ur core and **LOWER BODY** so u tend to build a lot of muscle there primarily and lose fat less prominently (although u do) than the fat and muscle u lose quite fast in ur upper body. The way you use your body, it'll smartly construct itself to work with as efficiently as possible. The human body is pretty darn amazing :)

Fitness Am I too young for p90x? Jun 21 2009

I know that for the P90 system, a younger girl used it as a finess routine and got in great shape and had no health problems (and her doctor had OKed it)

I realize P90x is on a different level, but I'd think if u'd just go for it at your own pace u'd be fine... it's like training done right for any sport, 15 is not too young.Asking your doc wont hurt either if u reeeally need the assurance.

boobswise :) losing body fat can mean you'd lose some boobage.. but u'll be building your pecs under ur boobs which'll lift them anyway and give u more definition which makes them look better, i think.

good luck!

Fitness I'm overtrained but have a race in 2 weeks! Apr 06 2009
17:17 (UTC)

hey Katie! glad to hear you've been finding it useful here. I don't really want to go off topic but since you mentioned that you became anemic but never found a reason, it's because sports anemia is not clinical and is a phenomenon or 'pseudoanemia'

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/152194

also, my fav go-to book, Diet for Dancers by Chmelar & Fitt explains the technical aspect too:

"..In this condition, the production of hemoglobin, the oxygen carrying molecule in the blood, gradually falls behind in terms of supply-and-demand. With the increase in exercise, greater amounts of oxygen must be transported and more hemoglobin is needed to do so. The body makes hemoglobin at a rate usually sufficient to keep up with demand, but as exercise continues, the production of hemoglobin can fall short.."

<< so basically this explains it!

definitely take a break... a week off and then a week of just short 15 min HIIT sessions, 3 are good per that week.

there's a member here that trained for a marathon just by doing short HIIT sessions. It's the best endurance builder ever and will spare your muscles pre-race (infact it'll help with muscle growth).

I got exercise induced anemia from overtraining (for dance which is different but i consider it quite the sport), along with messing up my electrolyte balance, plus my muscles were just out. I had to take a 2 week break completely off and recovered after that. Good luck with your race, and i agree with plenty of sleep and proper hydration. I'm also another random person on the internet so definitely take the expert opinion over anyone here, but i hope this helps!

Ash congrats at being at 132 lbs! I don't think u could've gained 4 lbs in a day! not in a day anyway. You have done so well so far , keep that in mind sweety <3

I'm also really sorry about your dog. how precious, to have a lovely animal companion since you were 10! Keep her memory alive and try to replace the bad thoughts with being grateful for the times you had together. It sounds like she had a lovely life :) and was lucky to be YOUR pet. Maybe you'll want to (when u feel u're ready) adopt a dog from a shelter in her good memory? You'll make a new friend and be poor dog's guardian angel at the same time..  just a thought xox

Hey Sam! LSD cardio is the long distance steady type.. i'm doing my HIIT on the elliptical, 5 min warm up at a moderate pace, then i crank it up for 30 secs of high intensity followed by 20 secs of back to low-moderate...i do that for 5 mins, and then follow that with a 5 min cool down. 15 mins on the elliptical total.

dont be fooled though :P it's the toughest 15 mins of cardio i've ever done. I want to gradually be able to increase the intervals, but so far 15 is effective enough in kicking my butt and i don't want to overdo it either. you really only need 10 to 20 mins for an optimally effective HIIT workout.

if you type HIIT in the forum search here at calorie count there are a lot of interesting threads talking about it, i was happy to see so many members love it too! :)

i did my third session today with some weighttraining afterwards (though i admit it isn't easy doing weights after HIIT!) it's crazy how my heart rate stayed at 140-150+ while i was doing weights after that intense HIIT. my body is soo warm and buzzing right now.

I 've been eating horribly the past few days (i'm getting my period but i agree it's NO excuse!!) so i'm hoping to start logging down my HIIT experiment in my journal.. it's final weeks at uni and heat is on there too... oh boi!

good luck yall xoxo

Hey 5'3" babes.. how's everyone? I agree with Sam, it does seem like this thread is getting a little less love lately!

i'd gained a bit before up to 117 and i've been working on weight loss as a mental game for me. My unofficial trainer/nutritionist has helped me work alot of flaws in my previous training, since i do dance class and alot of LSD cardio and it's been wearing me out. Because of what i was doing i'd been burning muscle instead of fat, which is why even with the weight training i was doing i wasn't recovering fast enough.. So now i've recently switched to only short HIIT for cardio days, i feel and look ALOT more toned in such a short period. I'm also at 115 lbs now... that's after after 2 HIIT sessions and 2 dance classes.

I've also revamped my mentality alot. I want to get leaner, more toned. At 110 or whatever. I'm learning to be unattached to the number, aim for it without it being the ultimate goal. Which is probably why i haven;'t been weighing too seriously. I'm also considering not participating in weight competitions for now to get my priorities clear in my head, so i'm afraid i'll have to be one less member in the weigh ins here though i do wish everyone the best of luck in what their goals are!

i'm very excited about how HIIT makes me feel the next day, not wrecked after miles of running as i'd wake up the next day feeling achey and not in a good way.

so now i'm focusing on my HIIT experiment and increasing my endurance, i'm doing 15 HIIT sessions now - aiming for 3 times a week. Hopefully after 2 weeks/6 sessions i'll try increasing up to 20 minutes...! i'm scared tho lol it really does get your throat burning up! Might stick to the 15 mins for longer if needed... I'm excited to tone up and lean out now knowing i wnt be burning the muscle!

all the best to you lovely ladies! xooxxoxox

congrats anna! nothing better than fitting back into skinnies and looking awesome :PSam it's great to hear about your program, i totally agree that weighing yourself might not be the best motivator if you're building muscle,i haven't changed much in weight since last week but i've defintiely lost body fat with the training i've been fitting in.. my gal pal who is smaller than i am in size and about my same height is 4 lbs heavier than i am, she trains pretty heavy (she's runs hurdles and does alot of strength training for it as well) and is super cut. she definitely has a way lower body fat percentage than i do so it's things like these that make me wonder about weigh ins sometimes..though they're a good motivation when you've stabilized with the muscle mass you want to put on and are just maintaining your strength rather than increasing it; and you're at a point where you're cutting and aiming for body fat loss.

veggie_love (and everyone!) - here's a topic i found motivating on CC, it's basically the real face of weight loss and how the experience is really like with some members describing it. I think it'll inspire all of us to be more patient with ourselves, as you can see everyone's different but in the end it all works out:

sorry about the late weigh update, but i weighed in at 116.4 yesterday... i'm actually GLAD because i've been putting ON muscle this week (my new goal... i'm letting go of my attachment to 'waifish' and going on to super lean.. it'll help my dance as well and everything else anyway)  and to weigh less with some extra muscle is GREAT! even if it's -.2 lbs lol

i'm gonna be focusing on the 're feeding' aspect too. Gotta load up on the good stuff! take your green tea to college! etc! i want to have GOOD eating habits, and good drinking habits.. i'm such a coffee and coco freak and i'm toning it down with herbal tea and green tea substititutes when i'm over my 'allowance' of caffeine. good luck ladies!

veggie love! You wil lose them hun, but that also means you need to shift your mindset to a calm more accepting one.. it's hard to solve a situation with the same mindset that brought it. Stressing is only going to make you binge even more hun!

you will lose the weight. take it one day at a time and just really settle in the 'now'. Infact in a few days the water weight'll be off and that itself is a huge relief because you get to see and feel something visible. <3 take it with one small goal at a time - water weight first - then your pound off per week... gw will come <3

Hey girls, i need to read your posts and catch up... but my weigh in for now and it's 116.6 lbs... i'm getting my period soon (it's my pms week) so no idea if some of it is real or not.. i know i've had a ton of cupcakes and chocolate cake this past while so it sure adds up... i'm back on track now alot more though, i also went thru a complicated but finally amicable break up with boi this week.. we'd silently called of the very unofficial 'engagement' but by the end some big issues made us go thru with it.

It was nasty. I was very heartbroken, and full of rage. but that didn't last 12 hours because for once, and i'd wanted to do this for myself so bad since my last relationship AGES ago, i picked myself together, told him i wished him the best and in my heart i forgive him because anger is no way to live. We all deserve happiness, joy and peace in our lives. there is no such thing as a stupid choice, even though all my friends think he's a dumbass for this, i know inside it's not stupid or smart or anything... it's just his, and he's entitled to it. he chose to not be supportive of somethign that is a dealbreaker with me and he did it way too fast for me to see a future with him. I want a man in my life that stands by me and is not selectively supportive.

this is heavy stuff :) but hope you've had a GOOD week girlies!
I have feelings for him, but I know that there's a man out there for me and i needed to learn from this relationship to be ready for the amazing times ahead.. if not for the bad times, we wouldn't appreciate the good as much. Love you babes xoxo

Ash lemme know how bio oil works for you! my friends swears by it. I have some faint stretch marks on my ass and when i've been off the beach for a while (as now) and i'm  super white they show abit more. It's nothing *serious* but we could all use a tweak or 2 no?

im losing again and i haven't even worked out last night.. but i did have a busy day and then party till the a.m... i don't drink tho so no i'm not just dehydrated :P

down to 115 lbs! :) 113 before FEB ends is SO my goal and i'm going to grab it soon..

I feel ya Sam.. I've had 3 weeks of horrible eating and ended it with my little cousin's birthday party i ODed on sugar in... i'm SO grateful to not have gone up the scale madly, i think it's because i stayed active around 5 days a week of working out or going to dance classes. Was at 116.4 yesterday, had a really good clean eating day and i'm back on track, now down to 116.2 lbs... the weight's gonna come off fast i believe because i know how i get this metabolic rush after high cal days... so my goal for FEB is to be at 114 lbs minimum or in the 113s !!

115 for next week min! going forward and i'll have a bit of that festive water too lol

MARCH GOAL - 110! :)

i really have no idea how much i weigh, i'm hoping to go on a losing spree again as i am hoping for tis week to be a better week for me. University is a challenge for weight loss esp ur senior year, but I will do it as alot of college kids at CC have...! Will try to weigh in tomorrow, and i really have come to a point where I know how important it is to just forgive myself and move on to the better things to come so whatever it is i'm good!

yeah that's so weird about the synching periods... my close friends and i have ours now together... and when i used to live with some of my close friends we synched as we got closer through the time that we lived together. Btw, as an art history geek, even prehistoric cavemen noticed this phenomenon and would assume it was because of the moon (as in a specific phase of the moon made women start bleeding around that time) and there were 'menstruating' caves (theory to explain some caves and their surrounding material culture artifacts, such as the Laussel venus over the caves in Laussel, France).

Happy soon-to-be 32nd birthday Sam, i know what you mean about the body comfort but really it's just something we say to ourselves when we plateau or our body gets used to a certain intake/fitness combination and becomes extremely efficient at maintaining and not losing. I used to think that was why i couldn't get out of the 120s.. but really, it's possible and you'll do it and prove it to urself hun. If u still want to anyway.

i've gained up to 116.4 but i *REALLY* hope this is just period weight and will go away, i'm so bloated too and jiggly too... my pants look like sausages now because of how bloated i am, i don't even get in that much sodium.. is this because it's my first period while quitting coffee almost 2 weeks back?! i'm told it takes 30 days to *totally* be free of the sideeffects of quitting and your body adjusts... so basically my body was used to being dehydrated alot and now it's not but it's still retaining the water :P i hope. Though i always though of myself as a good water drinker! :/

i have had a ton of chocolate and BAD food last week so this could also be the big "F you" in my face. On the bright side... i got a ballet barre and FREE ballet classes at my uni, daily if i want, but that's SO hard for me to actually use... i already do my own barrework, centrework and stretching at home during the semesters and catch a dance class twice a week (aside from running/weights). I think in the holidays i'll be aiming to go daily to the classes if i can.. they're pretty early in the morning so it can be my ballet buzz in the morning instead of caffeine.

college is grueling. senior semester begone. I think i'm handling it way better than most right now... i'm more positive than i show i am here..

Ash i can't wait till we're BOTH done with the hormones and general BLAHness! and i hope u enjoyed those pancakes nevertheless :D

aiming for a 115 ATLEAST on weigh in this week :( or back to my beloved 114s again. good luck everyone!

uuuughhhh i had a full on binge all week, think way too much chocolate... i've gone into the miserable details in my CC journal so i'll try to keep it less dramatic here and spare you all the negativity. anyway, as of tomorrow i'll be pulling myself together and YES it is harder to stay a coffee-quitter during college, esp with my senior thesis II load... but i'm trying.. and i'll do it...... with my mug of decaf-green tea that actually makes me sleepy......... maybe i need to quit that too! lol
