6/4 - 3.7 miles today / 12.2 miles total / 100 miles goal I finally got my pedometer fixed yesterday. Most of my miles were on the treadmill today plus Wii Fit and Wii Active. I am feeling great about this. I can't believe how much more energy I have now then a week ago. I must remeind myself what a difference eating well and exercising makes. |

I just got the Active yesterday. I love it. At first I couldn't figure out why my lunges weren't counting. It was driving me nuts. Finally realized I had the nunchuk wrong in the strap. Another time I couldn't get my left punches to count but my left kicks counted. You think you are doing the same thing but I guess it wasn't pointed quite right. Evenually got it working. Today was much better and I worked up a sweat. Funny how proud you feel when you get a virtual trophy I will work with it for a few weeks and if I am sticking to it, I think I will buy a wireless nunchuk and some new resistance bands. I will still use my Wii Fit to weigh in and keep track . |

Still don't have my pedometer functioning so I am guessing for a bit of it. I did 2 miles on treadmill and i would guess 1.5 more walking the dog. Total 3.5 miles I was going to do more but just got a Sport Active to go with my Wii yesterday. I was having so much fun with it after work tonight that I didn't get outside for more walking. The main thing was that I was active. What a nice feeling. |

If you ladies and gentlemen have room I would love to join. I am just getting back to some sort of fitness routine after much too long of an absence. I have just returned from two conferences last month. I seemed to walk a fair bit but ate way too much. I love the idea of accountability. I will report in tomorrow, if I may, giving the first days stats. I will get on the treadmill tonight and need to get a new battery for my pedometer, so I can see how much I walk with the dog. Bev |

I had not been on this site for quite a while and just got a notice that there were new posts to this thread and what a welcome thought. I had been going it alone for quite a while and was thinking that I needed to start focusing on this journey more. This is just the poke that I needed. Thanks ladies. I am in Ontario and we are just starting to get some nice spring weather. I think it will take another week though to get the ice off of the hiking trails. I have lost about 25 pounds and have another 40 to lose. I am trying to make it more of a lifestyle change so that I hope that this is the time that I don't bounce back. It is funny that at this point no one has commented on my weight. It has been a slow loss and I am still wearing the same clothes. They were so tight when I started and now they are baggy. Maybe if I wore a smaller size people would notice more. With the current economy I am trying to put of buying anything new til I really need it. Still , I would like to hear a compliment or two. Anyway, there are far worse complaints then just not getting my ego stroked Thanks Ladies, Nice to meet you.... Bev |

| Are you looking at your home page or your actual log? When you go to your home page it just lists a couple of the items for the day. The same is true if you put in a bounch of different activities. It would not show them all, but they are included in the totals. If you are looking at your actual log and they don't show up then something is wrong |

So is everybody ready for the weekend and the challenges that poses. I seem to have a harder time on the weekend when food is readily available. Even though I work at a desk through the week I seem to do better. I don't have as much time to think about food. I also am better at drinking water, since my water bottle is always in eye sight. I should look at the weekend as the opportunity to spend more time exercising. This weekend will be spent shovelling snow I think. They are calling for a major storm I have done great reaching 10,000 steps every day. This weekend I will try to get out some of my old exercise DVDs (or VHS ???) and see what I can do. I haven't done any straighten training or cardio other then walking in such a long time. I feel ready to get back to it now, but will have to start slow. Does anyone have any favourites, that aren't too intense or complicated when starting out? Bev 197/186.5/135 |

Hi Angel, You have come to the right place for support. There are a lot of us starting to work at losing the weight and just feeling better. Terry is here to help us out and show us it is possible. She is a wealth of info and is great at sharing. The hardest part is getting started and you are here so that is done. Just remember it is a slow process, but as others have said, you just need to lose one pound. When that is done, you just need to keep that pound off and lose one pound. I have not lost a lot of weight since I have been here but I am more active and feel so much better. This has kept me going. I just have to remember this when I want to stray. Bev |

| Happy Sunday everyone, It is a nice sunny, Sunday here. They are calling for freezing rain early tomorrow morning so it may be a tricky drive in to work. Wish spring would get here already. I love all the posts here. This is the first spot I go to on CC after inputting my weight. Such a wealth of info. Marie, thanks for the kind words. I love that I can help someone else, like you all help me. Yarroc, I have never heard of black food before. I will have to look for some of this in our local health food store. I think the only thing I have had is black beans. I will try to use it more often I think. Pollockh, what an important lesson to learn: to read all the lables. That not all things marked as light or low fat are better nutritionally then the regular versions. I find that if I want sour cream that I am much better off with low fat, rather then fat-free. There is only a little bit of difference calorie wise, and I find the fat-free does not satisfy me and I end up using more. Other things I don't miss the fat at all. I think this is along the same idea as Terry's info that one piece of chocolate tases no different then 20, so savory that one piece instead. I was very succesful in my quest last week to walk 10,000 steps for 5 days. I picked 10,000 because it is double my normal number, but is still reachable. Plus it is easy to remember. I am going to reprogram my pedometer to 11,500 this coming week. Soon I will have to start some weight training as well. Maybe in a week. (Feel free to remind me of this ladies!!). | |||

There are two ways to do this with respect to the burn meter.
Either way, this will increase the amount of food you can eat. On a separate note any time you see a thread that you want to track you can tag it. This is a good way to remember threads you want to follow or remember if it has good info even if you never posted to it. What you do is just above the original post is a line of Library / Tag It / Report Violation Click on Tag It. You can then put in Tags like inspiration, good info, friends etc . It is just like taging food. Then when you are looking for it, go to My Account/ Tagged Items. This sounds like a lot of steps but after the first time it is pretty quick.
Great job on training your body to lose on 1500 calories!! It is a wonderful concept isn't it. |

I don't know if anyone else has found this but with Menopause I have found that I would often wake up a night, some of the time with night sweats and other times just restless. Since I stopped eating in the evening I seem to sleep a lot better at night. I know I haven't lost enough weigh to make the difference so I am thinking is is probably due to no snacks in the evening. Anyone else have this issue or results? Also what is for dinner tonight? I am curious what others are eating. I think I am going to make a stir fry with asparagus, red and green peppers, pork and a Thai sauce. Then some fruit for dessert. I had two rice cakes with Lite Laughing Cow Cheese yesterday, with a bit of peppers and green olive yesterday for mid day snack. It was under 150 calories, filling and delishish. |

| Fitness | city versus country fitness | Feb 27 2008 01:01 (UTC) |

| I think there is a huge difference between city and suburbs, never mind country. I think if you are going to exercise at home or at the gym you can do these anywhere. I reall;y notice the difference when I moved from the city to the suburbs (years ago). In the city it is too hard and expensive to drive so you walk everywhere. In the suburbs everyone takes their car to go 2 or 3 blocks. It really makes a big difference. | |||

Welcome Cheryl, I am 54 and have about 54 pounds to lose. I am trying to make sure that I don't keep adding to my weigh as I age. That is nuts. I live in Eastern Ontario and right now am trying to use my treadmill to keep the weight lose going. Feel free to add me as a friend. Bev |

At the end of the day you want your burn meter to be 500 to 1,000 higher then your eat meter. Each pound equals 3500 calories so if you have a 500 calorie deficit you should lose a pound a week. Good luck |

Evening all my wonderful ladies, We are developing quite a nice little community here aren't we. Changling, I am from Eastern Ontario. The good news for today was that so far the snow has melted as it fell. No shovelling. I don't mind walking in the cold. It is the darn ice this year that is the problem. I belong to the Rideau Trails Hiking Association, but haven't gone for almost a year. I want to keep going on the treadmill so that once the ice is gone I can go on the hikes with them. I have to make sure I can keep up as they go at quite a pace and the hikes are 10 - 17 kilometres. I can't wait til I feel up to it, because there is nothing nicer then hiking the Rideau, Linda I already added you as by friend. To do it, click on my picture. It brings up my profile. At the upper right there is spot it click on add buddy. It lets you see my journal entries and post comments and I could see yours (depending on the privacy setting).

Welcome Linda, I got a Go Walking by Sportline from Walmart. I am not expert at all but I like it. It is a mid-price range. I can't remember exactly but costs no more then a meal out and is better for me. What I like is that you set your goal and when you reach it, it beeps. Talk about exciting the first time I reached 10,000 steps and wasn't expecting it. I find that it does motivate me. I like seeing that I have done a thousand more steps. I also find that I will keep moving in the evening to get it to reach 10,000. What ever goal you set just make sure it is reasonable for you so that you get motivated rather then discouraged. This a great site with lots of nice people. Keep checking in here and let us know how you are doing. Bev |

Wow Terry. Good for you. I am looking forward to hearing more about how you kept the scale moving down. Well I have done well this week with my mini-goals. I am doing better drinking my water, but must fill up my water bottle when I leave the computer. I thought house cleaning would add up to more steps in a day so Saturday I wasn't close to my goal of 10,000 steps. Sunday I went on the treadmill for 50 minutes. By the evening I was about 1,000 steps away so walked on the spot during commercials. I don't like to exercise too close to bed time, because I have trouble sleeping. Darn old menopause anyway! Anyway, it worked and I found out by pedometer beeps when I get to 10,000. It felt like it was cheering for me. I live alone so it was nice to get some feedback! Yesterday I did 50 minutes before work and had 5,000 steps to start the day. I can't believe I did that. I am feeling so go that I sure hope I can keep this up. Funny how a little black box can keep me going. I just did about 10 minutes on the treadmill to heit the 10,000 again. Today I had fasting bloodwork done so I went on the treadmill for 30 minutes but at a slower pace so i wouldn't get dizzy. I am now 1 pound away from where I was before I took my break in January, but still 8 pounds away from where I was at this time last year. I really want to get into the 170's so that I feel like I am not just relosing the same pounds over and over again. |

((((TRACY)))) There are your hugs. No way you ate an extra 3500 calories and thats what one pound equals. You may see your weight bounce a bit with the extra salt but it will come down quickly. Did you have fun? Sure sounds like it. So now you have hadyour mini-vacation. Get back on the wagon and don't sweat it. Bev |

I really think you should consult a physio therapist or trainer. No offense to many of the posters here but I would be worried that with your unique needs that suggestions that we might have could compromise your progress. I would be worried about hurting your back etc. That being said I would think that aquafit classes or other exercises in the water might be best. |

There is so much valuable info here! I have tagged this to keep checking it out. The true hints are already here so thought I would add a little trick. I am sometimes at my weakest willpower while driving home from work. I can have great food at home but just want to pull in to a drive-thru. If my purse is in my trunk I can't do this without parking. This is enough for me to pause and think "do I really want to do this?". By this point I just keep on driving. Lame, but that is my 5:00 PM mind |

Happy Saturday everybody, Love to see all the new people here. There are obviously lots of us on the same wagon. If we stick together we can help pull people back up that start sliding off the wagon. I know lots of people prefer to lurk but I think for me I would rather report to everybody how I'm doing so I have a sense of accountability. There are always more things to learn, but I feel like I generally know what I should be doing/eating. I just need to do it. What I am going to try is setting a weekly goal or a challenge that I am facing. Feel free to comment or kick me in the butt. It is big enough that you shouldn't miss. I live in Eastern Ontario and it is still cold and icy here so I guess it will be the treadmill for me to get the steps in today. That and housework. It surprisingly adds up. |

Hi Everyone, Sorry for the long absence but I seemed to have lost my way for a little while. I got a cold and couldn't excercise without a coughing fit. Why that would stop me from posting seems a little strange but ... I did put on a few pounds but not as many as I would have in the past so that is good. I am ready to hop back on the wagon so if anyone else needs a pull up let me know. I am going to challenge myself to walk 10,000 steps tomorrow ( including the treadmill). It is my cleaning day so I seem to go back and forth and up and down the stairs a fair bit so I will see how that goes. I may try my hand at making some nice a thick, hearty veggie soup to keep me going. I added everyone here that has been on the site the last month as my buddies. I plan to start journalling again tomorrow. Anyone who wants to be removed from my buddy list just let me know or feel free to ignore me. I won't take offense. Happy Friday everyone, Bev
