| way to go zizi!! Welcome to the 140s! :-) Well, I haven't checked in in a while because I wasn't making progress, but I've been reading all your posts to stay motivated. The weight still refused to budge, and I even talked with my new personal trainer about it. I could tell he didn't quite believe me when I said I'd been keeping my calories to 1500 per day and working out 4-5 days per week and actually gaining weight. Of course I didn't tell him about 2 days I "fell off the wagon" but even that only entailed slightly more indulgent dinners than usual - nothing that should have derailed my progress. So I came up with a theory - I'd love all of your thoughts on it. It is well known that you shouldn't drop below 1200 calories per day because your body will go into starvation mode and really hold onto extra weight. If I'd been consuming 1500 per day and burning 600 working out, leaving me with a net of only 900, was I putting my body into that mode? Yesterday, I ate 2000 calories - including sirloin and a glass of wine at dinner - and did not make it to the gym. This morning I am 1.5 lbs lighter than I've been all week!! Coincidence? |

| Sounds yummy! I'll try it tomorrow! Work lunch was at a diner today, and believe it or not the best option on the menu was a bowl of chili. That just made me feel gross, so I had an 80-cal hot chocolate after the cold walk back to the office. Might as well, right? And now I'm all sluggish and don't feel like going to the gym after all. But tomorrow is a new day and my fitness evaluation at the new gym. I should get some concrete numbers like body fat %age and strategies for hitting my goals. Better luck tomorrow. Have a great weekend, all! |

| Okay, so after yesterday's challenges, I'm quite proud to report that I bailed on the business lunch and hit a spin class before meeting my friend for drinks. I had two (I know I said just one but peer pressure!) gin & tonics over about 2 hours and by the time I got home it was after 10pm so I didn't eat dinner (wasn't even really hungry). Even with the drinks I was under my 1500 calorie budget. So of course I woke up and ran to the scale. You'll never guess: I GAINED a half a pound!!! I kicked the scale and sulked out of the bathroom. I then realized I had to pee (pardon the potty mouth), so I did and then decided I would weigh myself again...and this time without the PJs. It worked!! One pound less than the reading 3 minutes earlier means I actually DID drop a half pound. Hooray! I'm stoked for my new Friday night ritual...a lingering evening at the gym and a hot shower before the night starts - keeps me on track all weekend. Good luck to all! |

| So after yesterday's spin class and even lower caloric intake than usual, I could not WAIT to get on the scale this morning. Guess what. I was UP again - a half pound! I kicked the scale back into its hiding place between the toilet and the sink and went to the other bathroom to um...use the bathroom (just number one). :-) I decided to try it again after that and without my pajamas on. It made a whole POUND of difference. So technically, I'm down a half pound from yesterday! Yippee!! Try it sometime...no excess water in your bod and no clothes on! | |||

| Hi maclae00 - I think I saw something like that this summer at JCrew. It definitely came in yellow and blue, but pink is likely also. Plus all the summer stuff is on clearance now. Good luck!! | |||

| I'm with you, poohct! I posted an almost identical message to a different forum earlier this morning - and though I don't wish this frustration on anyone, it's heartening to see that I'm not alone. I used to weigh myself only occasionally to make sure I was staying on track, but since I started this new kick, I have to do it every day. It all started when I stepped on the scale about 10 days ago for the first time in a while and had gained 4 lbs without noticing it! I lost 3 immediately (probably due to my period, though) and then was back up 2 a couple days later. Then down 2 and now back up 1.5...very very frustrating. BUT I'm determined not to let this week ruin my determination. The mathematics says that if we keep doing what we're doing (1500 cals minus what we burn with all that exercise), we WILL lose the weight...it just may take the long trend to get there. I'll keep it up if you do! |

| Or maybe you just need encouragement from others. I felt the same way earlier today (see p. 15 of the 140s/130s club) and the community here made me feel much better. You should be very proud of your 4 stars - and keep at it - you can do it! You may want to vary your strategies to reach your goal - intrigue your own body and mind. Good luck! |

| Hi all - I also am a bride-to-be. Sept. 1, 07, Labor Day weekend, and am also in the 140-130 club. I'm buying my dress in 2 weeks, though, and I wanted to be at least nearer my goal weight (around 125) by then to make sure the measurements are accurate. My natural equilibrium has always been around 142, though, so I'm not sure how realistic that goal is. I don't want to be glorious on that day just to turn around and get back to where I am today...I'm really trying to improve my whole lifestyle. Good luck to all of you - let's keep each other on track! |

| Hey JD :-) - I got your friends invite and accepted - thanks! The pep talk has worked and I already feel better. I've decided to leave work early and hit the gym before the cocktail hour and try to have just one glass of wine. I'll watch my dinner calories to make up for it. I'm known to my friends as a girl who loves her evening cocktails so having water would make me look quite suspect! I'll just have to sip one slowly. I will update my profile soon...those things always make me feel self-conscious, so I have to put some time into it. Thanks again and I'll check in later! TT |

| Okay, so I'm having my first bad day since I started this a week ago. I've been working out like a madwoman (about an hour of cardio per day for 5 days this week) and limiting my calories to 1500 - except for 1 day that I "slipped" and went up to 1700. The scale has actually gone UP (!) about a pound and a half - and I'm not doing enough weight training for that to be muscle mass. Anyone know the science for how long it takes for new behavior to show up on the body? I was annoyed yesterday when I remained at 143.5 for 2 days in a row but nearly cried this morning when it read 144. Help - I'm REALLY trying not to throw in the towel because I know of no better way to accomplish my goal than what I'm doing now. Any advice?? Oh - and I've been invited to a work lunch and cocktails this evening to celebrate a friend's engagement. I don't want to derail my hard work with restaurant food and wine...ARGH! |

| Hi Jeniferdiane...actually it's more like his last gfs were marathon runners and aerobics instructors, and I - while relatively active - was quite content having a steak and red wine dinner. I know he just wants me to be healthy and attractive for decades to come, but he definitely went about communicating that in the wrong way. It's all water under the bridge now - esp. now that I have rediscovered my inner health guru.
Congrats to all of you who have made progress on your goals - keep up the good work and I'll let you know how I'm doing, too! |

| I've never joined a discussion board, but reading all of this has really been motivating, so I'd like to join, too. I've been around 142 (read: 141 - 146) for years now - healthy at 5'5" but on the upper end of healthy when I'd rather be at the lower end. I've made 132 my short term goal. I'm getting married in September, and I'd love to be in the 20s by then.
My fiance and I used to fight about my weight / habits, which was an utter de-motivator, but I've made a resolution to take more time for things that make ME feel good - and that includes working up a good sweat a few times per week. A major motivator I've found recently (besides this site!) is joining a new gym. I joined Equinox and just can't get there often enough - the luxurious locker room and kick-butt instructors have energized me and lure me back day after day. Good luck to all! |
