If you're having the baby tell the father. He has the right to know and often things are easier to figure out with two people involved.

Forget about gyms and just get a pedometer and start with 3km a day, try to walk those 3km in 30 minutes, after that becomes easy increase the distance, it's cheap and practical. Also count the calories, stop buying sodas and junk foods, eat raw fruit and vegetables, lean meat, etc. Remember that just saying that you want to lose weight will not make you lose any weight, it's all in the action not the words.

It's strange that raw beef is not in the database since there are dishes based on raw beef or veal. Like carpaccio or the biftec tartar (dunno if I spelled those right).

The Lounge Measured for Wedding Dress... :S Nov 05 2009

There is no reason to stop losing weight over a wedding dress. I never understood why weddings have to be so complicated, you could just rent or buy a dress in that shape closer to the wedding date. Don't forget that becoming slim often makes women decrease in bra size.

If you are 200lbs (90 kgs) now it's possible to reach 170(77) by march, because the first pounds are the easiest to shed with diet and exercise, and there is no way 10 to 13kg are not going to show.

2 pounds is to small a variation. That's not fat, probably just water and intestinal content. Always weigh yourself in the morning right after you wake up, before eating or drinking anything.

I didn't know there was a diet based only on fruit but I happened to eat only fruit instead of dinner or breakfast and it's not that bad unless you plan on working out. Depends on the fruit I guess, apples, watermelons and oranges for example do not help the hunger but bananas, plums and grapes do the trick, at least for me.

If something is bothering you just say it to him loud and clear, just like you told us. If you don't matters might get a lot worse. If he doesn't move around  (sedentary job, a lot of time on the couch or in the car) and eats out of boredom or stress it's a good chance he'll become obese and obesity is the mother of a lot of health issues.

Of course sometimes nothing helps, not even being blunt. My dad never listened and now he has a box of insulin pens in the fridge next to the food he's not supposed to be eating but still is, even though it makes him sick and sends him to the doctor over and over again. You just can't reason with some people.

Are you already thin? Or normal weight? Because the last pounds are very hard to shed once you hit the the normal range, it can take a few months and it's less than one pound a week. It took me 5 months, that's 20 weeks,  to go from 60kgs to 54, and I did not cheat.

Weight Loss Eating foods high in fat Sep 14 2009

The nutrient proportions are important for your health, 50% of fat is bad, for the weight loss only the calories are important. If you can eat 640cals in one go you eat to much, since there should be 3 meals a day +2 snacks. Portion size control is also important in a diet.

10 Fahrenheit is -12 centigrade right? Try a goretex jacket, the kind with many zippers and pockets used for mountain trekking not skying, find something to tie over your mouth and nose, a windstopper headband is also good. Just ask for trekking equipment in a sports store, they should have a lot of stuff to pick from, it's the kind of equipment that is light but will keep the warmth even if it's a blizzard oustside.

Foods weekly budget for healthy home made food? Sep 13 2009
22:09 (UTC)

In eastern Europe the food is not expensive but the salaries are also smallish. 1 kg of apples is currently 1$, plums less than 1$, 1 kg of chicken breast about 5$, 1/2kg chicken livers 1$, 1kg of potatoes 0.3$, grapes 0.3$, bananas 1$, basmati rice 2$, beans 2$, 1 liter of 1.5% fat milk less than 1$. Of course these are the prices in peripheral markets and hipermarkets, a normal neighbourhood store would sell them at double or triple the price.

My weekly budget is around 30-40$ and includes both the food and higiene products. I feel really lucky because fruit and veggies are cheap, but clothes and home appliances for example are expensive.

The Lounge Question for people who don't live in the US... Sep 13 2009

I don't know if the frantic search for terrorists is justified but it was to be expected after the 9/11 events. The US government had to do it, there was no excuse for all talk and no action. Of course, totally eliminating terrorism is like getting rid of drug dealing or prostitution, it's never going to happen.

Is there an age difference? It's possible to lose interest in sex itself, not the person you're having sex with. If you have the need and he doesn't, then there is an incompatibility and things need to be cleared up.

Maintaining Does anyone else do this? Sep 13 2009

I don't know, when I was overweight I could eat as much as 1000cals in one meal, but once I started pacing myself for a while it became really hard to cheat since I couldn't eat more than 400 cals in one meal without feeling full to the brim. If you're doing things properly the stomach should shrink and the cravings will be satisfied with a lot less food than before. Also the reward for losing weight shouldn't be the (fast)food that put the weight there in the first place, that's just hanging on to a bad habit.

Fitness Calories burned ? Sep 13 2009

Rollerblading burns more, it's hard to both keep your balance and move forward fast. Roller skates are more stable and not as heavy as rollerblades. Skating on ice does not compare to skating on asphalt, the amount of friction is very different.

Weight Loss Am I Still Overweight? Sep 13 2009

Just look at your waist area, when the gut is gone you're pretty much done with the weightloss. You're 175 cm tall  (I'm used to the metric system) and 82kgs (180pounds) is still to much, 160 sounds better.

Health & Support Is this stupid, or really something? Sep 13 2009
04:34 (UTC)

Fat is just a deposit it doesn't burn anything and swimmers do not work out in ice cold water because an efficient swimming routine means that you come out for air every stroke or every 2 strokes so the head is submerged most of the time, it's impossible to keep your head down in cold water, you feel like you can't breathe properly, your ears start to hurt and then you just have to get out of there.

Also swimming is hard work, it burns a big amount of cals and develops the big core muscles, it's normal to empty the fridge after a serious workout and to be heavy thanks to the bulky muscle mass.

Cold weather athletes are dressed properly, with layered clothing, nobody wants to risk pneumonia by being sweaty in the cold wind.

I've read many articles that say fat does this and fat does that but it's all nonsense, fat is storage for "rainy days", it does nothing to burn energy.

Health & Support Amenorrhea and Weight Gain???? Sep 12 2009
05:05 (UTC)

Up to 25% of athletes lose their periods for different amounts of time. It's not necessarily a tragedy especially if you've stopped growing, if all the tests came out fine and you are feeling perfectly ok just leave it be, it will come back eventually.

You are definitely not to thin, I'm also athletic 5'7" and 120 pounds, I used to lose periods for up to three or four months when I was 20 and I weighed more than this back then, did a lot of blood tests and ultrasounds but all came back fine and the episodes suddenly stopped around the age of 24. Don't sweat it, just like dismenorrhea (the pains associated with menstruation) amenorrhea is not always explicable.

Just do so. It's possible to lose and then maintain by keeping a healthy lifestyle. I have never been insulted while being overweight, I noticed that most ppl reject obesity, but being somewhat fat or out of shape is not an issue. Strange.

Carbonated soft drinks distend the stomach and weaken the esophageal valve, the one that keeps the food down, so in time it's possible to get some nasty reflux problems. One can every now and then is fine, just don't make it a habit.

Not being able to move properly was a good incentive for me. That and not being able to adapt to heat very well anymore, fat makes good insulation and I hate air conditioning.
