Foods Oops, Dairy Queen beat me up. Sep 22 2007

I love dairy queen, but I hate my husband for getting it for me! Make since? I does taste good, but I'm not going to get it. Then my husband will stop there when we are out somewhere, or he'll just bring it home when he's getting off work. It's so much hard to resist when it's sitting in front of your face and bought already. He does this with fast food and junk food all the time, it drives me nutty!!!
Calorie Count How many people would like a body measurement area added? Sep 21 2007

YES YES YES!!! I do! I think measurements are so much better than weight. There are so many things that can "trick" the scale. I totally agree and well send the suggestion as well.

meh... scales suck anyway. Go ahead and THROW IT!!!  Laughing Then go out and buy yourself a nice measuring tape. They are more accurate, reliable and dependable. Oh and the cost less and last longer. Cool

Have you checked out the tools that this website offers? They should help you figure all of that out. Look under tools or (account settings too maybe). You enter information about yourself, like current weight, goal weight, target date, and how active you are and it should give you a number to shoot for.
I hope that helps.

Ummm... spaghetti squash is yummy!!! I love this time of year because it is really easy to find. I like the squash better than noodles. Laughing Also you can make your own marinara sauce. My husband LOVES food, so I've gotten really good at making low calorie substitutes for his favorite foods. Another good sub. is black beans instead of beef in tacos (or in my case taco salad.)

You may want to call the restaurant and see if the were effected by any recent food recalls. I heard on the news last night about dole recalling a whole bunch of packaged lettuce because of possible ecoli contamination .
Fitness Swimming? Sep 14 2007

I've been swimming most of my life. I'm also a swim instructor lifeguard and swim coach. Competitive swimming is a GREAT workout. HOWEVER...The problem with swimming is how easy it is to slack off. So here are some suggestions that I would give.

-Make sure you are swimming properly. Small things wrong with yor stroke could really hurt you.

-The more you swim the more efficient your stroke will hopefully become, this means you will need to push yourself harder to get the same level of workout.

- Race the clock! This is the easiest way to insure a good workout when swimming on your own.

Weight Loss How accurate is your scale? Sep 14 2007

My scale isn't terribly accurate, but I'm not worried about it. I figure it will still show any major changes. The way I look at it is a few pound fluctuation is normal, this way I won't sweat the little stuff b/c I'll never know if it's me or the scale.
Weight Loss South Beach Diet? Sep 11 2007

Hi eveyone! I was wondering if you had room for one more new person in your group. I've witnessed this diet work for many people before. I even stopped by with some advise when this post first started up. After being on the sidelines and watching for a long time I decided it's my turn so I'm stocking up tonight and starting south beach tomorrow. I was sort of hesitant because when my husband did this diet he ate tons of meat, so being a vegetarian I thought I would starve, but the more I've read I now know that this is one of the more "veggie friendly" of the carb-cautious diets. Oh and I know from experience that the balsamic vinegar dressing recipe is great Laughing

I agree with luvfoeva, but would like  to add that I'm pretty sure I remember hearing on the news that the FDA did just approve one for over the counter as well.

I had the same problem. I know they aren't always the most attractive... but look for biking shorts. Yup the tight spandexy material. They'll rub and you won't. Keep up the good work and drink lots of water it's hot out there!

If you workout at a gym check there policy before using a phone. Due to new technology (i.e. vidoe and camera phones) many gyms have rules against cell phones in many areas... Sad that the sickos and mean people can ruin a good thing for the rest of us.
Vegetarian haven't gotten my period sence become veg. Aug 11 2007
19:59 (UTC)
Yeah sweetie you may just need to eat more calories. Nuts or avocados may be a good thing for you; they'll give you some added (good) fat and they are really calorie dense. I hope you get things figured out. If you are normally very regular in these matters you should think about calling your doc and asking for advise.

Just to be sure how many calories are you eating a day and if you have an excercize program what is it like? Many people who are right at the minimum of calories and who workout regularly actully need to eat a bit more without realizing it... or so I've heard anyway. Maybe that is the culprit? Good luck figuring things out, sometimes our bodies are just weird. I had a friend in college who went three months without a period and the doctors never did figure out what caused it.

I would suggest subbing in some beans. Black bean and lentils are yummy, if nothing else it'll add some variety!

Carie- Just be carefull as you transition into phase 2, that is where you start added foods back in, the book even says to add stuff slowly (one or two foods at a time) and to watch how it effects your weight loss. You will lose but it will slow down to the normal 1-2 pounds per week, but you can't just add in everything that is allowed in phase two right away. My sister-in-law made that mistake, she didn't gain but she did stop losing and eventually gave up, when she started eating like normal again was when she gained it all back. So as long as your carefull when transitioning phases and your willing to stick with it you should be fine.

Hummm... I'm not really sure, but I bet there are other people on here who knwo a whole lot more than I do. I do know that if you are using the monitors built into the cardio machines they are notoriously inconsistant, so if you are worried about how hard you are pushing your heart you may want to consider going manual or getting a monitor yourself. If you don't already. Besides that I guess we'll both have to wait around for someone with more knowledge to come around. Is bodyscience still around?

My husband's whole family did it last summer with very fast results. My husband actully lost the whole thirteen in the first two weeks and I lost about 10 in those weeks. It was easy to follow because their is no worry about amounts of consumpution(which my husband loved). However as a word of advise be carefull in phase two when you add foods back in and you most likely will gain it all back ( and then some) the second you stop following it.

Well I'll start my post out with a disclaimer: I have heart rhyme problems, although they are not serious at all they make the handles on the equpiment and any quick checks I do myself pretty useless. I own a nice expensive monitor but it usually varies with 20 bpm of my average rate.

Now to the real information that I use. I don't worry about heart rates at all, I go as hard and as fast as I can for 30-45 sec. then I wait until I have caught my breath and basiclly regain the mindset to do it again (usually 45- 1 min later).  On the moniter this usually looks like max of around 200 then dropping back to around the 150's before I start up again. But I have no idea what it's like for a normal person :-)
Vegetarian losing too much weight being vegetarian? Aug 07 2007

First of all if you are healthy and happy the way you are I wouldn't worry about it too much. But yes, a combination of weight lifting and some calorie dense food like nuts would be a non-stuffing and still healthy way to add in a few pounds of muscle. Fruits might work too, but nuts are denser so they have more calories in less space.

Hello 160's group! I was actully one of the original posters in here back in January. Then at the begining of the summer I was doing great in the 140's and I totally fell off the wagon...so I'm back! I'm at 165 today and hoping to have a quick stay here like last time and then we can all be in the 150's group together too! I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone!
Fitness Elliptical... Aug 07 2007

I would say in this situation your best bet may be to go to a no frills gym. The less other stuff they have the cheaper it will be and most places (even the ones with just a few cardio machines) seem to have an eliptical. If you want one at home look in the newpaper ads for people selling used ones. Good luck!

Okay this may sound a bit stupid, but here it is anyway. My dog was on Prednisone...yes, my dog. Ironically for the same reason as you broncail swelling. Anyway yes she did gain weight, but she was on it for over a year, just until the 17th I think you'll be just fine. The only real immedate side effect was it made her drink a WHOLE LOT of WATER. So if you have any immedate gain I would bet on it being water weight that you'll drop as soon as you're off.
Good luck and sorry if the whole dog thing offends... I by no means am comparing you to a dog.

I read where you were talking about the birth control and said "I dont want it to screw with my weight loss tho." Trust me dealing with the possability of gaining alittle weight from birth control is so much easier than dealing with the monster of lossing weight after a pregnany. Not to mention it well help make your periods much more regular and predictable, that means less stress. Stress makes me eat! If I was in your position i might actully lose weight from less stress. :-)
