Make sure that you are eating enough calories each day, also you need to give your muscles a break from exercise sometimes so maybe take Sunday off. I don't know if 116lbs would be a healthy weight for you and being that you are so young and probably still growing, you should perhaps work on the healthy lifestyle as opposed to weight loss goals. |

| Weight Loss | Should I eat all 1900 calories they advised?? | Jun 29 2009 20:02 (UTC) |

The 1900 calories is your target to help you lose weight. You should eat close to that number or right on everyday. If you don't consume enough calories to support your activties, your body will conserve the calories you do consume (this is called starvation mode) and you will not lose weight. Eating enough calories daily assures your body that it will get what it needs and you will begin to lose weight. |

| I am also 5'8" and I'm going for about 150lbs but I've got a long way to go. I have not been at a healthy weight as an adult so as I get closer I will have to re-evaluate based on how I look and how I feel. | |||

| Weight Loss | Is it normal to maintain weight before a period starts? | Apr 08 2008 19:25 (UTC) |
|
| Your body weight can fluctuate up to 3-5lbs per day on a normal day. Add your period and the fries you ate for lunch and who knows what could happen! Don't worry too much about your weight during TTOM. | |||
| Weight Loss | Strength Training and weights | Apr 08 2008 19:24 (UTC) |

| Strength training is very important and should part of your regular routine. Using items around the house (milk jugs, cans, etc) can be a good way to go initially. Hand weights come in a variety of weight increments and can be found at Wal-Mart fairly inexpensively. I would start with 5lbs, doing 3 sets of 10-15 reps each. If you can't do that many to start, do 5-10 reps until you build up stamina. The key to strength training is not using the most weight you can, but doing the movements properly by extending your muscles and focusing on the movement.
I would say if you want to do push ups, do push ups, even if you can only do one per day. It's better than none and after a few days you'll be able to do two, three and more. Strength training is an ever growing process that requires time and consistency. |

| If you are eating healthfully then just tell him you are finished or not hungry. If he persists and this is a source of temptation for you, then have a knock down drag out and find out if he really is sabotaging you or just not thinking about the impact his lack of encouragement is having on you. Maybe he feels bad because he sees your efforts and isn't doing something similar for himself. Misery loves company, after all. | |||
| Weight Loss | how to lose weight without completely depriving myself?! | Apr 08 2008 19:14 (UTC) |
3 |
| First off, I feel you! It's so hard to say no to delicious foods and treats sometimes. One thing you may not factor in is that your body has a set point - a natural weight where it is comfortable and will maintain itself without such strenuous effort. So that may be why you are having trouble maintaining the 118. Additionally, it sounds like you need to open up your food palette. Start experimenting with other healthful foods that you might like. That way, it's like you're getting treats all the time because there is always something new and you won't feel as tempted by the battered chicken and chili cheese fries (or whatever tempts your tongue). | |||

| Weight Loss | Question | Apr 08 2008 19:01 (UTC) |

| I don't log water. It does add to your total grams of food intake for the day. So if you look at the analysis page and you have been logging water it will say you've consumed a lot more grams of food than calories. But I don't think it really has an effect on your overall day. | |||
| Weight Loss | Weight fluctuating !!!!!!! | Apr 07 2008 22:40 (UTC) |
1 |
| Your weight can fluctuate 3-5lbs daily based on your water and sodium levels as well as when you ate and how much. It's probably not helpful to weigh yourself everyday. You'll get a more accurate picture of how you're doing if you just do it once a week. | |||

| I'm always leary to try anything sold online. The results vary and nothing beats a healthy diet and good old fashioned exercise for weight loss.
If you feel like you need a boost though, I went on phentermine (the good half of fenphen) for 6 months and lost 60lbs. Talk to your doctor about safe, managable drugs that may be available to you. |

| Weight Loss | Calories burned for exercise | Apr 07 2008 22:36 (UTC) |
|
| Those machines, as well as these websites, are set with calculations that give approximations. The only way to tell how much YOUR BODY is actually burning is to hook you up to a heart rate monitor and a breathing apparatus and a bunch of other stuff. I spoke to my personal trainer about this same question, because the difference was very dramatic, and he said that the Calorie Count estimates for how much I am burning are probably the most correct - so I would go with that for reference. | |||
| Weight Loss | Are you better during the week or the weekend | Apr 07 2008 22:33 (UTC) |
23 |
| I agree with jennlett. I do better during the week because I have a schedule and structure. I have to do certain things at certain times and I plan for meals and things because I know if I don't bring something to eat, I will not have the opportunity to go get something.
One thing I used to do when I first started to make my weekends better was set a timer on my cell phone for every three hours. When the timer went off, I knew it was time to eat, regardless of whether I was hungry or not. If I was hungry, I'd eat a meal, if not just a snack (like a piece of fruit or some cottage cheese). After a while I didn't have to set the timer because I would think about it on my own. Also, it might not be such a bad thing for you to be eating 200-300 calories over your weekly amount on the weekends because then you won't get into a slump where eating under your daily amount isn't helping you loose weight anymore; it changes things up for you. So if you are still losing, I'd say, don't worry about it. |

| Calorie Count | The Burn Meter | Apr 07 2008 22:28 (UTC) |
5 |
| Your body burns a certain number of calories per day without you having to do anything, if you laid in bed all day you would still burn that number. So you can eat up to that number of calories, in your case 2000, and not gain any weight. | |||
| Foods | turkey and ham question | Apr 07 2008 22:26 (UTC) |

| When you're mom first brings it home, look at how much she purchases (ie 1lb..) if it is a pound, divide it out into 4 equal parts. That should be 4 ounces, which is about 2 servings. Then you can count the slices to determine how many slices that is.
Or you can get a kitchen scale to weigh foods with. They are probably available at Wal-Mart for $15-25. |

| Weight Loss | I think that my stomach has shrunk... | Feb 11 2008 19:39 (UTC) |
3 |
| It is possible that your stomach has shrunk. When we over eat our stomachs, like everything else, stretch out to accomodate the sheer volume that is being consumed. However, 1750 calories is not an excessive amount of food and cutting your intake may slow your weight loss progress.
If you are having trouble eating that much everyday, try alternating days like Mon-1750; Tues 1400; Wed- 1700; Etc... This could help your body avoid getting into a routine or pattern. Also, try to eat better food - less fat, more protein - more fiber. Ravioli are pretty high in fat and carbs and low in other nutrients. Even with a small salad, the kind or amount of dressing you use could too high in fat; and iceberg lettuce has no nutritional value at all! Try dark color leafy lettuces like romaine, green leaf or red leaf lettuce and use half a serving of high fat dressings or try to find a low fat/low calorie dressing you like. Bottom line, make sure you are getting enough protein and fiber in your diet and try to minimize your fat intake and that should help you reach your caloric goals without feeling stuffed or hungry. |

| Sorry gals. The only time I am on the internet is when I'm at work and I've been so busy the last two months, I haven't had a single second to spare. I will try to get on at least once a week and update my progress.
I did alright through the holidays but my work outs dropped off during January. I am back on track at the gym for February. Basically, I have not lost any weight since December but I haven't gained either. I am at 346lbs but hoping to drop some poundage this month. Good luck ladies, hope to see everyone back here soon! |

| I weighed in this morning, down to 343lbs so two pounds this week. I've worked out hard this week though, doing a lot of weights and so I think I probably lost more but gained some muscle. How is everyone else doing? | |||

| ellinjo - welcome to our group. We've tapered off a bit since just before the holidays but hopefully we can come back in full force for the new year.
I am at 345, I lost 10lbs last month and I am very happy with that. My total weight loss since July 2007 is 60lbs. Good luck to everyone this year and I hope to hear from you soon! |

| That's awesome that you have family support. My sister-in-law and I are doing Big Burn December 2007 to try to advance our weight loss and start the new year off right. It's not easy but we both seem to making progress.
I didn't lose any weight last week but I didn't work out either. I'm back on track this week and worked out HARD yesterday. I think I'm going swimming tonight with a friend so I'll get some laps done and I love the water. |

| Weight Loss | 300+ Countdown to Jan 1, 2009 ! | Dec 07 2007 17:32 (UTC) |

| Wow, thanks for this post! I peaked this year at 406 lbs. It was a shock for me, and one that had been a long time in coming! I've been significantly overweight since I was 15, I'm 27 now. I've avoided seeing my health and lifestyle deteriorate because I didn't think there was anything I could do about it.
When I weighed in at 406 in July of this year, I basically begged my doctor to help me. He put me on phentermine-short term- to jump start my weight loss. I started working out daily, sometimes twice a day, doing the elliptical machine and weights at my gym, and then swimming laps in my pool at night. It's been 20 weeks and I've lost 60lbs, so now I weigh 346. I'm shooting for 330 by the end of the month and hope to under 300 (for the first time in more than 8 years) by the end of February. I am no longer on the phentermine and thankfully, going it alone hasn't been as hard as I thought it would be. I used the drug as a jump start and it worked and now I have the knowledge and motivation to press forward on my own. Good luck! Everyone who has responded to this post has motivated me even more. So thanks for the pick me up! |

| Congratulations on reaching your goal! That is awesome! I think 15lbs in 3 months is an excellent goal and totally reachable. It's great that you are getting a gym membership as a gift. So often we are rewarded with food so it's nice to see a positive reward that is something other than that.
I'm getting a little bit excited because I'm doing really well this week and though I don't want to get ahead of myself I have planned out the next 12 weeks of my life, at least in terms of weight loss. My goal for December is a total of 25lbs (or 5lbs a week for the next 3 weeks because I've already lost 10lbs). After that I am going to shoot for 4lbs a week, which by staying on track with exercising I can totally do. I go back to my doctor at the end of February and I hope to have lost over a 100lbs (since my July start date) AND be under 300lbs. If I reach this goal, it will be the first time that I've been under 300lbs in more than 8 years. That's really huge for me and it's kind of scary but I think I can do it. Maybe by my Birthday next year (end of May) I'll be down to what I weighed in high school (10 years ago), which was 230-250lbs. WOW, it seems almost impossible but yet so desirable! Wish me luck girls, I'm going to need all the support I can get! |

| I think every woman has experienced this same thing at some point or another. It's a tough battle but I try to gear myself up for it. I don't weigh the week I'm on my period because I know it won't be accurate. So I wait until about a week after I'm done.
Also, make sure you are getting enough protein during that time and that you are exercising as much as possible. Exercise will help loosen your muscles a bit and relieve the cramping. |

| Weight Loss | any tips on staying on your diet while on your period? | Dec 06 2007 18:06 (UTC) |

| I find when I am on my period that I need more protein and iron. So I like to have a lean steak or a grilled chicken salad to curb the cravings. If you want something sweet, Nabisco has 100 Calorie Snacks that are pretty good and South Beach has protein cereal bars that are only 140 calories but have 10 grams of protein and taste decent (my favorite are the chocolate and peanut butter flavors). | |||
| Weight Loss | Fighting the Flop.. | Dec 06 2007 17:17 (UTC) |

| Yes, Spanx are fantastic but I'll be honest, rather uncomfortable and binding - I don't know that I would want to work out in them.
I have a different take on the flop. I kind of like it. I think that the more I jiggle, the more calories I'm burning - at least that's what I tell myself when I'm working out and sweating so hard you can see through my shirt and my hair looks as though I've just gotten out of the shower. I find that a pair of not-super stretchy underwear, work out pants and a sports bra under a t-shirt hold me pretty well - at least enough that I don't feel like I'm going to get a black eye from one of my boobs :-) I confess when I first started working out, the belly was a problem - it was just in the way, but after a few days of working out and feeling great I didn't really notice it anymore. |

| Go to www.nutrition.about.com and use the calorie calculator on that site. You select your gender, age, height, current weight and goal weight and it gives you how many grams of Carb, Protein and Fat that you should be eating to maintain your GOAL weight.
It seems to me like you should be eating a lot more protein. Most people do not get enough and though my stats are totally different than yours, my protein requirements are a lot higher than what you are eating. |

| Speaking for the Americans - Everything is huge here, even the people obviously. You know the powers that be refer to the high level of obesity in America as an epidemic - like it's a disease!
I try to remember when I go out to eat (not at McDonald's) that I am provided with twice as much food as I actually need to eat at a meal and that it's ok to just eat half of it. I also have started throwing food away instead of getting a to-go box. If I have indulged once, I certainly don't need to be tempted to do so again the next day (or at midnight when hunger strikes) as the case may be. |

| The only problem with a little indulgence now and then is that it often leads to a full out binge. If you can eat half a piece of cake and not want to scarf down HALF THE CAKE - then you are my hero and I applaud you.
It shouldn't matter much on your weight. Keep in mind that 3500 Calories = 1 lb; and half a piece of cake (with frosting) is probably about 250 calories and a donut another 3-400 depending. I wouldn't worry about it at all. |
