The Lounge Advice and opinions on a relationship issue? Jul 16 2009

Everything has been verbal at this point, besides the occasional arm touch or whatever. But comments have been pretty blatent. And by pretty I mean extremely. Thanks for the input, it has sort of reinforced my reservations... or course what you know you should do and what actually happens in the heat of the moment are two different things, but it helps to have a clear position in mind.

Ok... these responses are probably good advice. But then turning him down gets awkward... kind of makes it tough.

I have known him about 14 months - long enough to know him pretty well I would say. We hang out - work together alone often and often have a few beers after work, but it has been strictly friendly up to now.

Purespark, your reaction is understandable and maybe correct, but the one thing I didn't mention is that he is not from Canada and isn't terribly culturally attuned. For example, he legitimately doesn't seem to understand that I could probably have him charged for his behaviour (not that I ever would, but I could). He's not terribly attuned to social norms in this regard.

Windra: you could be right about the feminine thing... and although I would like to say no, I have not acted differently... its definitely possible. I try to act the same all the time but i realize that I probably dont... even if its just looking stressed.

Weight Gain Anyone just simply underweight? Apr 19 2009

Hey,

Not sure if I count exactly as part of this group, but after being fairly normal as a child i lost weight a few years ago by eating a bit healthier (i ate ridiculously badly)  and due to stress, and ever since i have had a really hard time keeping it on. It doesnt help that I am on medication that supresses the appetite AND boosts the metabolism, plus although I almost never exercise (bad me, i know) I am on my feet working as a server in a busy restaurant nearly 60 hours a week, plus walking is my mode of transport (ends up being 1 hour per day of walking at least). In the last year with this lifestyle my weight has gone from 130 at 5'7"  to 115 and falling, and when I bend over my ribs are now prominantly visible through two layers of clothing. talk about gross:P

Ha so cutting a long story slightly shorter, I now have the same issues as you guys - and i need to at very least stop losing, if for no other reason because I am now wearing clothes from grade nine... ie when i was 14. I am now 20 and three inches taller lol and thats just sad. So I am on board!

First question - I have a severe nut allergy (peanut and tree nuts) but I eat a lot of cream cheese... any other suggestions for similar products that are calorie dense?

The Lounge Not too sure how to ask - charitable donation in lieu of gift/whatever you call it? Apr 04 2009

thanks all... I went to the home, and yes they were very helpful. unfortunately there is no one else who can/will handle this, but I'm doing ok I think. hopefully nothing gets messed up. They are also setting up the donations, so all i have to  worry about is the funeral. i think it will all be ok

Thanks... I am responsible for the arrangements, and I didn't even think of an obituary. Wow am I ever on the ball. So I guess I just write it and submit it? And I suppose the local paper is the best bet... ok. And I haven't contacted the funeral home yet, I guess they might (?) be able to help spread the word?

Sorry again, I just have never done this before and frankly have extremely little experience with funerals. Someone needs to write a how-to guide.

I'm sure there are different (and legitimate) views on the issue of breaks from medication, but my doctor recommended this, and the reason is that adderall does not need to build up in the system to be at its most effective. According to my doctor, it does not "build up" in your system at all - after about 12 hours, it works its way out and thats it until you take more. My advice would be to consult your doctor, but please, Katie, be careful when giving advice about medication  - it can be dangerous to spread misinformation.

I take adderall... it works well for me but there are side effects. One is no appetite. You have to make sure you drink tons of calories and eat a meal at night as it wears off, and even doing that i lost nearly 20lbs on it (and i didn't need to, i am now about 115-120 at 5'7" and struggle to maintain). I suggest taking at least one day off per week to help you eat and also to reduce tolerance.

The other major side effect is trouble sleeping, especially at first. if you can manage the side effects though, it really really helps with ADHD, so for me its worth it.

Ha thanks for the kind words guys. But I think you must be right, he feels neglected. I do my best though, I really do. I text him constantly, meet up between classes, reserve friday nights (after work) for him, and get up early on Sundays (only day I would otherwise sleep in) to hang out with him. I really don't know what more I can do short of quitting which i can't (and wouldn't) do. I guess all I can do is talk to him about it, its just frustrating.

its funny because I totally sympathize with you - you seem to want a quick, easy breakfast that tastes good. May I suggest (if you have the money to spare) buying some healthy muffins from the store? I know PC makes some, and there are other "wellness" brand muffins around... they taste good, are healthy and provide a bit more energy. Just a thought.

Thanks all... I saw him on Christmas eve, and decided to take all the advice here and try to bring up how he's been treating me (i have to admit, the wine had something to do with me screwing up the courage to ask). It did not go well, unfortunately. The converstation became an argument even though I made certain not to attack him at all, and before the end a few dishes had become casualties. But it made me realize that you guys are right. Its not my problem. Its a bit tough because all of my friends are close to their families, but I have to realize that that kind of relationship is not what we have, never has been and never will be.

Its not good but at least I now realize it - thanks for the help.

Thanks for the advice all.

Gi-jane, I appreciate your concern, and I will make an appointment to see my dr. if other remedies fail, but I don't see this as a medical emergency and my Dr. is tough to get an appointment to see anyway. Thank you though.

I think maybe the problem might be a lack of fat... in response to the question, my stats are 5'7" and about 130 lbs. And aside from soy nut butter, I think I probably don't get a lot of fat. So if that could be an issue, I will up the fat intake. Thanks all!

Well we never had an open relationship. I was always afraid to bring up anything that would upset him... but he was also a great dad in a lot of ways, so I don't want to lose that. Plus he's really the only family I have... and I'm afraid that if I give him space I will never get it back. Thanks for the advice though, its helpful.

Thanks for the advice... And don't worry, I really have no expectations. I guess it might get better over time, but somehow I don't think so... We'll see I guess. I just don't know how to make it happen, especially not without risking making things worse. thanks everyone anyway:\

See thats the thing... I moved out partly because my new house is closer to school, and partly because he drinks too much and being around him drunk is just a bad idea. so I guess I abandoned him with his problem, which i know is selfish, but he doesn't see it as a problem anyway. He just thinks I moved out to be closer to school. And he never seemed to have a problem with me moving out, but now he's just absurdly distant.

Hmm, it seems I am rambling, but I hope that answers the question.

Thanks for the kind words... I agree with the "easy way out" thing. I'm not saying suicide is easy, and I'm sorry I wrote that. I just meant... Acutally I'm not sure what I meant. I guess what I think Isn't all that clear, even in my mind.

Mommakitty: Thank you for your prayers. I do appreciate it. But I don't believe in god, so the Bible is not all that helpful for me. Thanks though.

Ok, so I've been on this like three weeks and I still have no appetite at all. If anything, my appetite is getting worse... and every time I eat I feel sick. I have been downing juice, milk and booster juice, but its really not healthy. I've lost nearly 10 lbs too. I did contact my dr, who was not concerned... but my friends are. any suggestions?

The Lounge Waiters/Waitresses What Are Some of Your Pet Peeves at Work? Dec 03 2008

My pet peeve is when people get mad and leave no tip because other tables are served before them. The place I work is sit-down but with quick service, so tables are typically served within five minutes (which is a lot of pressure on me, by the way). But some of the items on the menu take longer to cook (like kabobs, for example). So when the table next to you gets their salad order before you get your kabob, its not because I am playing favourites. Even if you ordered first. No matter how much I want a tip, I can't make food cook faster. sorry.

Thanks for the suggestions... I ended up just sleeping. It didn't solve anything, or get any of the nine million things I have to do done, but at least now I have a somewhat less tired brain to work with. Thanks all:)
