Weight Loss Anyone lose 50 lbs? Nov 29 2008

I joined CC in January of 2007 and started exercising.  I also lost about 30 lbs and the first several months.  Then I stopped counting calories but continued the exercise and plateaued for more than a year.  I am sure I was overeating, but my exercise compensated for it and I didn't gain any weight.  Then I got serious again and joined a weight loss challenge in September 2008.  I lost another 20+ lbs since then and am within 5-10 lbs of my goal weight.  I think it was good for me to take some time off and just plateau, partly because I was able to maintain without counting and obsessing about calories.  I think it also made it easier to lose the next 20 lbs.  I am 5'3" and have always been overweight, and I was concerned about getting past the setpoint that my body has always hovered around--168-175 lbs.  This is definitely doable, and it is so worth it!  Just take it at your own pace, take a break if you need to, and make it a permanent change.

I am so happy for you!  I know exactly where you are and how you are feeling.  I am 5'3" and started at 208 in January 2007.  Mine was 5 year old baby weight, and I finally saw a picture of myself and it was really different from how I thought I looked.  I started CC and had been doing moderate exercise 3-4 times a week.  This was in the form of walking 45 minutes, or doing a step aerobics class, or light weights for 50 minutes.  I lost about 30 lbs through these changes and then plateaued at 168 for months.  My body had gotten used to my routine and even though I increased the time I spent exercising, I found I had gotten out of the habit of keeping track of food.  I was eating right up to and sometimes over my total calorie needs for the day (including all my exercise).  I started diligently counting calories again, and aimed for 1300-1500 per day.  But the thing that has helped the most is that I have changed my workouts-- now I do the treadmill 3 times a week also, but I have started interval training.  I run for 45 seconds, walk for 1 minute.  And it is making a difference.  I also make sure I do weight training at least twice a week, three times if possible.  And I have increased my weights from 5 lb last year to 8-10 lb depending on the exercise.  In short, I have changed the intensity, not the time of my workouts.  It still comes to about 1 hr a day, but is 5 days a week.  I have come off my plateau and am starting to see 149.  The jeans I saved from 5 years ago that were my skinny jeans are now really loose and baggy--they really don't fit anymore and belong in my too big jeans pile.

I am excited for you.  Change up your workout some, add weight training, and run some fast sprints.  If you count calories accurately, it will make a difference.  Good luck!

Me, too!  I was brought to reality by the severly overweight when I started in January.  I never dreamed it would be such a big deal to only be moderately overweight.  Way to go!  It's exciting.
Weight Loss In the RED! A couple of questions.... Feb 27 2007

I love the eat meter on the toolbar! But I was having the same problem on exercise and nonexercise days.  I finally changed my meter to reflect the number of calories I would need on exercise days.  Then on days I don't work out I just eat less--usually into the orange or almost.  I didn't like getting to the red and knowing I still had to eat to keep a healthy deficit.  Changing the meter has worked well for me.

I love Walk Away the Pounds.  A friend introduced me to Leslie Sansone's Miracle Mile DVD and I was hooked.  She has tapes that go from 1 to 3 miles and it is easy and fast and fun.  Highly recommend them.
Foods sprouted grains ? Feb 20 2007

I do know a little bit about sprouting and good vitamins and such.  I am recovering from being sick right now and don't have the energy or brain power to look it up accurately.  I will be happy to help in  a few days when I feel better.  Feel free to leave a comment in my journal if you think I have forgotten.  Sprouting is actually very good.

Weight Loss Just Say No Feb 04 2007

I like that a lot.  I recently also saw someone else post that nothing ever really tastes as good as it looks.  I have found this to be true-- at least with last week's chocolate chocolate chip cookies that my girls felt they needed for their tea party.  One just wasn't as good as I remembered it being not so long ago.  I definitely didn't need another one and next time will hopefully just say no.  I am excited for the day I am no longer addicted to sugar so this hopefully won't even be an issue.

Thank you looiz for that information.  I hadn't noticed that feature either and I have been reading numerous posts and getting many different opinions on this issue.  CC says it is best to run a deficit of 500-800 calories per day which will give 1-1 1/2 pound weight loss per week, but I didn't know how the exercise fit in.  Now I do.  Thanks.
