Dairy milk doesn't suck and neither does soy milk. I consume dairy and soy products interchangeably, depending on my mood because I like the taste of both. However when I'm surrounded by vegans that lecture on the evils of dairy I choose dairy because it's irritating to hear of why we shouldn't take advantage of being the only intelligent animals. |

| Health & Support | What's the Difference between BED and just Eating a lot | Mar 24 2008 20:36 (UTC) |

| BED is a compulsion to eat. You just seem to like eating junk food. You might want to try and make your diet more nutritious but otherwise it doesn't sound like you have any kind of bingeing problem. | |||

"THEN WHY EVEN SPEND THE MONEY AND TIME TO MAKE THEM IN THE
FIRST PLACE IF NO ONE IS GOING TO USE THEM AS FOOD?? Oh ok, lets spend
$30 on ingredients to make these nice cookies just so we can throw them
in the garbage! YAY!" Sometimes people bake simply because it's relaxing and a nice activity to do with friends/family. A person doesn't have to bake goods when they could buy them at the supermarket for the same cost or cheaper but they choose to because they enjoy the process. |

| Foods | Trying to cut back on sugar... | Mar 23 2008 00:14 (UTC) |
3 |
| I eat around 80 grams of sugar from
fruit every day. I've tried to cut back but I love fruit too much and
it doesn't seem to adversely affect me so I don't worry about it. You could try eating more of the fruits lower in sugar such as berries, pears, melons, grapefruit. Bananas, grapes, mango, kiwi, oranges, pineapple are among those high in sugar. |

It's fine to have a few treats on special occasions. The only concern
would be that you're going to overdo it by eating rolls, cake, cinnamon
buns and stuff all at once along
with a large dinner. Maybe you could choose between the cake, rolls and
cinnamon buns and then have whatever you've chosen with a scoop of
icecream? You won't truly appreciate the taste if you're too full.. I had vegemite toast and a hot cross bun for breakfast, lunch is roast lamb and veggies, and following that I'll have someone light and sweet like some fruit.. Easter for me is more about the wholesome family meal than chocolate and pastries. |

| Roast lamb with pumpkin, potatoes, peas, carrots, broccoli, brussel sprouts and gravy for lunch. It's just a typical Sunday roast but it will be so warm and comforting seeing as it's such a cold miserable day. | |||

It's difficult to say because everyone has their own definition for
veganism. Some people say it's just no animal products like eggs, meat,
seafood, dairy, gelatin etc. but then others say the bees
get harmed in production of honey and bugs get killed in wine-making
yada yada.. eventually you reach a point where it's ridiculous and you have to sweep the ground in front of you before you take a step so that you don't harm any insects like in jainism.. Bottom line is- no one is ever going to agree on the definition of veganism. I'd consider you vegan but other's won't. |

| "What on EARTH? I'm sorry, but somehow I doubt a starving person cares
if the food they're eating has 1500 calories or 3. Simiarly, I doubt
they ponder the difference between a McDonald's happy meal or a
selection of gourmet food when it lies in their lap. "It's better off
in the bin than making you and others around you fat"? I mean,
honestly. I'm trying, really trying, to wrap my head around this
statement, but it's feeling a little impossible. I don't think
maintaining a healthy diet is going to be the first thing on my mind,
should I ever experience starvation. I'm not going to go "HEY, YOU, HOW
MANY CALORIES ARE IN THIS THING?" when someone finally throws me a
sandwich." WHERE did I say anything about a starving person caring about calories? I get it; starving people want food. BUT this girl and her family and friends are not starving. They have an abundance of food, therefore when they have the choice between healthy food and non-nutritious junk they have NO REASON TO EAT JUNK. "It's better off in the bin than making you and others around you fat" By this I was saying that UNLESS YOU'RE GOING TO GIVE IT TO THE DEPRIVED STARVING POOR PEOPLE you shouldn't be giving it to the likely obese and overweight friends & relatives surrounding you who already eat a lot and probably have no will power. It's common on calorie-count for people to pawn the food they don't deem good/nutritious enough for them to eat on others, but I don't believe that's right. |

| All you people here say "give it to someone else" but NOOOO. Don't do that! You shouldn't be giving your junk food to someone else. I get that people are starving, but unless you're actually going to give your food to those starving people it's better off in the bin than making you and others around you fat. | |||
| Foods | poppy seeds | Mar 20 2008 05:29 (UTC) |

| Poppyseeds taste nice in baked goods such as breads and muffins. 1 tbsp has 127mg of calcium and .8mg of iron so vegans especially would find consumption beneficial. |

| Foods | Dark Chocolate question | Mar 18 2008 06:59 (UTC) |
4 |
| The higher the percentage cocoa of the chocolate the less sugar so you should always aim for the higher % dark chocolate. I personally don't eat chocolate at all and if I did I think I'd choose small portions of the tastier milk chocolate because the benefits of dark chocolate are only slight- you can get more antioxidants from healthier sources not coupled with the fat and calories. So unless you really like the taste of dark chocolate it's not worth eating at all. | |||

Atkins is not the way. Can you honestly see yourself depriving yourself
of carbohydrates for the rest of your life? Low-carb living likely won't kill you but it's miserable. You're missing out on so many delicious flavours, so many vitamins and nutrients. And why? You
could eat a high carbohydrate diet and still be thin and still lose
weight. I had 310 grams of carbohydrates *shock!horror!* yesterday and
I'm not fat. |
