Fitness Protein Powder Help! *NEW QUESTION ADDED* Apr 01 2008

After reading the T-nation article I am all screwed up! I have one protein shake a day. On lifting days it is right after the workout. On non-lifting days it is as soon as I get up. Is this the correct way to do it or is there a better way? Due to financial reasons I do not want to have more than one per day. Is whey still the best for me or do I try something else? Just when I thought I had it all figured out!!!!! BAM!!!

Hey all. I just wanted to let you know that I bought a brand new 2007 Giant from a very respectable bike dealer. I have put a few miles on it and so far I love it! Thanks to all of you that helped me in this process. If you have any other ideas or suggestions on things I need to know I am always open for them. Thanks again!!

Too cold outside is just an excuse! Get bundled up and go! Carrying the extra clothes actually makes you work harder. I'm not sure if it is possible for you, but I highly recomend a dog that can walk with you. With a dog you HAVE to walk at least once a day. Somedays when it is really cold out I really don't want to go, but that damn dog drives me crazy until we get out there. She loves the cold and once we are out there and moving it is usually not so bad.

Thanks! That is a great article. I have been doing most of this so I guess it is time to look at my diet and maybe make some radical changes in the way I work out. It just seemed so easy to lose the first 50 pounds and now with ten to go I have stopped! I know that I am not alone on this because I read about it here every day, I just didn't think it was going to happen to me! Oh well, I am very happy with how far I have come and I have a lifetime to lose the last ten!

I'll just be rude and to the point. When I decided to lose weight and get fit I was the same way. I hated everything. I didn't want to get out of bed, go to work, and the thought of working out just made me want to eat more!! I finally just looked in the mirror one day and said okay fat-ass, today is the day we do this. I started cutting out junk food, counting calories, and walking. It was amazing how fast the weight came off in the beginning. I think I lost ten pounds that first week and a couple more pounds every week there after. The more I lost, the more I wanted to lose. After 6 months and almost 50 pounds lost I bought a gym membership. Today, almost one year since that talk to myself in the mirror, I am at my goal weight, in the best shape of my life, and happier than I have ever been. In short, sometimes you just have to be mean to yourself to get your lazy ass up and going. Trust me when I say it is very hard in the beginning, but it does get easier, and I know it can be done!!!

Fitness why is lifting weights so hard and yet Nov 10 2007

According to my HRM, I burn about 750 calories an hour doing hard cardio, and around 625 calories an hour doing hard weights so it really isn't that much of a difference. maybe you are taking too long of breaks between sets? If you don't have a HRM I strongly suggest it. It is by far my most valuable piece of workout equipment!

Fitness HIIT question... Aug 28 2007
17:54 (UTC)
I do HIIT at least 3 times a week. I think if you are able to go a whole minute during your "all out" phase, you are not going hard enough. If you are truley going all out, you should be wanting to die in 30 seconds. I don't know how this is possible, but according to my heart rate monitor (Polar F6) I had my heart rate to 107%. No wonder I was wanting to die!! Try pushing as hard as you can for 30 seconds and see how that works.

Hi Shaye. If it helps any, I just joined Anytime Fitness and it is the best money I have ever spent! I love the fact that I can go work out at any time of the day or night, and a lot of times there is hardly no one else there. I have a very strange work schedule so it is perfect for me. Besides that, if you travel at all, or take vacation, there seem to be a lot of them around so you don't have to miss workouts. Just my two cents, but I highly recommend it.

Weight Loss Eating "On the Road" Jul 17 2007
03:41 (UTC)
I am in the same boat. It took me forever, but I finally remembered that there are GROCERY STORES everywhere. You never have to go to a fast food place or a gas station. Just because you are the road doesn't mean you can't buy some whole wheat bread, tuna, lunchmeat, fruits and veggies, or whatever else you want that is healthy. I can't believe it took me as long as it did to think of this simple thing!
Weight Loss Eating Back Calories? Jul 10 2007
13:46 (UTC)

I am no expert or have any scientific proof, but I eat back all of my calories that I burn during deliberate exercise. I allow myself 1600 calories a day plus what I burn working out. I am very active playing golf and softball and I do not count that as exercise. I started the first of the year at 230 pounds and I weighed in this morning at 174.4 and 1.6 pounds away from my goal. I don't know if it works for everyone, but it has for me. The thing I like best about doing this is if I want to eat more, I just work out more. Good luck and I hope you find what works for you!!
Fitness Questions about protein Jun 21 2007
05:06 (UTC)
Actually, I have a strained muscle right now so I am not doing any lifting. I was just wondering for future reference if it happens again. I don't think it came from improper lifting. I think it was from a stupid move I made at work. Part of my job is pretty physical and sometimes I get sloppy with my form there. The Dr. says I'll be good to go in a week to ten days. I can't wait to get back at it, although I am sure I will be taking it easy in the beginning.

I recommend that you continue to lift weighs, but forget about the powders until you are closer to your goal weight. You don't need it to lose weight, and that should be your main focus right now.
