Yoo Hoo everyone - guess what - it is the middle of the night and I am at work, what a shock Laughing

It has gone quite quiet, but like I said it's cos we're all out and about trying to make the most of any decent summer weather. I have got 4 more shifts to work then am on annual leave for almost 3 weeks. We're going camping so I sincerely hope the rain stays away.

I have been very, very bad lately - not counting calories at all and eating all the crisps and cake on night shift but I have been going to the gym.

Started doing upper body weights stuff and I'm obviously using muscles I've never used in years as they HURT. Still I suppose that's an early sign that I'm working the right places, will keep persevering Smile

Hope everyone is well and happy with life, families, gardens, diets and anything else that's important

Julie x

Good morning all,

Everyone is very quiet on the forum - must be cos it's the summer and everyone is busy outside Laughing

I am very busy at work just now - because it is the summer time we have a lot of staff on holiday, leaving us short, so i'm doing a fair bit of overtime and cos I work night shift July has kind of disappeared for me !

I'm still managing to go to the gym, I just get up and go there before I head to work. Mind you I've managed to pull a muscle in my calf, didn't rest it properly and then made it worse so am going to give the CV stuff a miss for a week or so - do some weights and swimming instead.

Not much else to report other than the Scottish weather has returned to its norm - wet !  Yell (mind you it's still quite warm, by our standards - about 60 F)

Happy dieting,

Love Julie x

Good morning everyone,

00.10 here at Aberdeen Maternity Hospital and all quiet on the western front !!

Hope you have recovered from your wonderful wedding Betty and how splendid that the sun shone for you all. I will never be 'mother of the bride' and by the sound of things, maybe thats not too much of problem if it's as tiring as you sayLaughing.

Not even remote indications of weddings here.

Now - This 'South Beach' thing, is it like 'Atkins' ? I have tried to look it up but unless you are going to buy the book none of the web sites give you much of an idea of what it entails.

I'm still being very bad and not logging my calories but I am going to the gym and enjoying it. Just sticking to cardio stuff just now, will maybe add in some weights stuff later on - planning on going there staight from work in the morning and then just powering through the rest of the day til bedtime (which will probably be about 7.30pm !!)

Weather here has been pretty good lately - warm and sunny. We're having a family BBQ on Sunday so no doubt the rain will make an appearance for that Frown

Hope everyone is happy and healthy,

Love Julie xx

Hello everyone,

Been back to work for well over a week now and it feels like I was never off! We had a very nice time in our little apartment up in Aviemore, the weather was mixed but it never stopped us doing anything - if I get time tonight I'll upload a couple of pictures of our lovely Scottish scenery Laughing

Ate and drank like a horse while I was away and haven't quite got back into the swing of things yet but I will ! Anyway one new item of news - I joined a gym so I'm looking forward to making use of their very scary looking machines and their swimming pool.

Hope everyone is well and you are all enjoying the beginning of summer - here's to a long and sunny one (not much hope of that here - Ha Ha Cool)

Hi Debbie - welcome to a very friendly little group and a very helpful website.

Cheers

Julie xx

Hello everyone,

Yes I have been quite busy - working and in the garden but have also been very lax in keeping up my 'calorie counting'. Not that I have gone back to stuffing my face, just laziness and having other things to do i guess !!

Della - do you get back to see your daughter and her family much, how far are you from Oklahoma? (Never been much up on anything but the most basic geography!) My boys all live locally and I would hate it if they were to move away but you never know what's around the corner I suppose.

Cheryl - I had never heard of that condition before so I looked it up. It's obviously not a condition peculiar to pregnancy but the pregnancy must have really exacerbated it, must have been a scary time for you all.

I have one night shift to do and then I have some annual leave. The way we can work our shifts means that from tomorrow morning I am off work until May 29th ! We are heading up to a place called Aviemore which is about 100 miles North West of Aberdeen and staying there for a week so I'll probably put on about 2 stone drinking wine and eating too much !!!

I think I'm going to take my lap top but dont know if I'll be able to access the internet so if you dont hear from me for a while it's cos I'm outwith technology service Surprised

Speak to you all soon

Julie x

Hi Della,

Good news about your new grandaughter.Laughing How many children does your daughter have and how many c-sections has she had ? There is a problem with 'thinning' of the uterus following c-section because where the incision is made will be weaker than before and if someone has a number of c-sections this can increase the risk of what's called 'scar rupture' (the uterine scar, not the one on the tummy).

Methicillin is not the name of a virus - it's the name of an anti-biotic. There is a world wide problem with a bug called Methicillin Resistant Staphlococcus Aureus (MRSA) which can cause problems following surgery, in the elderly, the young and those more susceptible to infection. If your daughter has contracted MRSA it will need to be treated with different anti-biotics but dont worry too much. As she is young, fit and healthy it shouldn't cause too many problems. A huge majority of the population carry staphlococcus aureus but it  doesn't cause problems unless you are compromised in some way. Good hygiene practices (at home and in the hospital) are really important to limit the spread, especially with a very new baby.

Obviously, I am not a doctor! so she should ask nursing and medical staff more questions regarding both issues. Tell her not to be fobbed off and ask for things to be explained without any confusing Yellmedical terminology.

Hope this has been helpful, if there's anything else just give me a shout.

By the way I looked up where you live on Google Maps - it looks very cold !! Also, this 'South Beach' thing seems to be working pretty well, I had a look at my average carb intake over the last wee while and it's usually over 100. I dont have an awful lot to shift but have stuck with the last 7lbs so maybe reducing carbs might be good.

Hi to all the rest of you guys, hope everyone is doing well and having funCool

Take care,

Julie

Hi there people,

It's so nice to read everyone's comments and just general chit chat as well as all the weight loss stuff.

Weather here is still much the same and forecast is for cloud and rain - I just looked Aberdeen up on Wickipedia and according to them the average annual temperature here is a measly 8C or 46F !!  I'm sure it's not that bad. Mind you I dont think I could cope with extremes so 28C from Cheryl and -11 from Della would be too much for me !

Della - I am at work right now and I work as an obstetric theatre nurse so am involved in all the C-Sections, elective and emergency. It'll be nice to see pictures of your new grand-daughter. As you may have guessed we are not overly busy at the moment (it is 00.05 on 28/04) which is how come I am sitting tapping away at the computer.

I have three 'grown up' (loosely applied) sons and although 2 of them have girlfriends none have produced offspring as yet - probably not a bad thing really Laughing

I finish this run of night shifts on Wed. morning and hoping to get back to the garden again.

I dont think I've hit menopause yet - I'm sure I would know, wouldn't I ? Only thing I notice is mood swings, but they're not really anything new !!

Nice to talk girls

xx

Hello everyone,

I just spent the entire day tidying up my garden - all the heavy back breaking stuff that needs doing after the winter and I still have more to do tomorrow!

Anyway, according to the activity count I burned over 1000  extra calories today (can it really be that much?) so I am having some apple crumble and custard as a treat Tongue out

Hopefully it will be another nice day tomorrow - the weather forecast is good - and I will finish the tidying up part and then we might have a barbecue.

I think our top temperature is going to be around 15 C, that's pretty good for April in Aberdeen, probably a bit chilly for a lot of you over in America !!

Feeling satisfied and off to enjoy my dinner Laughing

Hello,

My name is Julie and I live in Scotland.

I am 48, 49 in September. I joined CC 2 years ago and lost 28lbs. It started sneaking on again so I'm back cos it helps you stay a little more in control Wink

Nice to read everyone's stories. I'm afraid I haven't quite got into the excercise thing yet - work a lot of hours - mostly at night -  and cant afford to join a gym (excuses, excuses !)

Have tagged the thread so I can find it again

Am at work just now so I suppose I'd better get off the computer Laughing
