| Fitness | Question on Knee Damage | Apr 23 2008 17:02 (UTC) |

| I'm not a doctor, but it could be as simple as arthritis in the knees. Sometimes extra weight can bear down on your knees, but simple arthritis can happen over time in virtually anyone's knees. It also could be a ligament problem. I would call your PCP. If your PCP doesn't help you then call an orthopedic surgeon specializing in knee's. | |||
| Fitness | Question for Women Re: Fibroid Tumors | Apr 23 2008 16:58 (UTC) |

| I've never been diagnosed with fibroids, but abdominal pain could be a sign. In addition to abdominal bleeding after intercourse and bleeding in between periods could be a sign of fibroid tumors. I'd call your OBGYN. | |||
| Fitness | Something I thought about last night - school PE: | Apr 23 2008 14:06 (UTC) |
|
| I live in NYS. PE is mandatory. You will not graduate without passing PE. Unfortunately the school I went to only had 40 minute periods. Once you were changed, took roll call, and received instruction you had maybe 25 minutes of actual activity. I don't know if the guidelines have changed, but back then the guidelines were moderate to physical activity for 30 minutes a day at least three times weekly.
I also had the opportunity through college to work at a school that had one of the best PE programs. They offered every sport imaginable and gave excellent instruction. Each day the students were given choices of different activites to participate in. This included rock climbing, dancing, archery etc... My philosophy is that PE should be structured in classes that have longer periods. However PE is not taking as seriously as math or english, so I don't see that happening. All I can say is that America is becoming more Obese. If you don't have your health then you have nothing. Math and english won't even matter. |

| Weight Loss | Husband problems | Feb 15 2007 19:43 (UTC) |

| Hello,
I can relate. My partner was overwight when I met her. I still loved her and found her attractive. We've been together for 5 years and she has probably gained another 20-30 pounds. Truthfully behavior change takes a lifetime. I care about her health as you care about your husbands. We can only do so much. Everyone is right in saying they have to want to do it for themselve. The real question is can you love your husband for who he is and what he looks like no matter what. Maybe if the two of you have spare time then you could do the little things when it comes to exercise such as walking or biking or finding an activity that you both like and will get some exercise while doing. LOL |

| Health & Support | depo-provera weight question | Feb 15 2007 19:36 (UTC) |

| Hello,
yes the hormones in the depo shot can cause an incresed appetite. What a person decides to eat will determine their own weight gain. The actual shot doens't cause weight gain, its the change in appetite and the food people eat that causes weight gain. |

| Fitness | Ladies Only Question | Feb 14 2007 17:44 (UTC) |

| Hello,
CHanges in exercise, eating habits, weight, and stress levels can throw off the regulation of the period. IN addition even though it may be a coincidence some people who have been on the same pill for two or more years may find that that it no longer works for them and they have to switch to a different pill or hormonal method. If you have no insurance I suggest going to Planned Parenthood if there is one nearby where you live. They can help provide services and BC to people who are underinsured or don't have no insurance. Consult your physician about starting the next cycle of your pills. Sugar pills are just something to provide etra vitamins and keep you on schedule. With some birth control pills you can take the hormonal portion of them continuosly. Not all pills. Consult your OB/GYN though. |

| Hello,
Sometimes this can be caused by a medical condition called gynecomastia. Men will have enlarged breast that can look similiar to women. Sometimes men also produce too much estrogen which can cause enlarged breasts. You may want to speak to a doctor. |

| Weight Loss | This is really bothering me... | Feb 06 2007 17:59 (UTC) |

| People have the right to an opinion about what helps them lose weight.(1st amendment) Including starvation. I don't condone starvation and believe it is highly detrimental to one's health. I don't believe this site promotes starvation. People are just voicing their opinion on what works for them. What works for people isn't always healthy. I'm sure everyone of us has done something unhealthy throughout our lives. The truth is that health is on a continuum. Meaning behavior change takes a liftime. So help provide positive support for those who are engaging in negative behaviors. | |||

| Fitness | Why is my back hurting? | Jan 30 2007 17:25 (UTC) |

| Hello,
Even though you are jogging your back is being used as a stabilizer when you are jogging. Its what maintains your posture. In addition the back is one of the muscles that people rarely work out. Interestingly enough the muscles of the back are the most used muscles of nearly any excercise done. For example sitting, standing, walking, bending and so forth all use the back in some way to perform these movements. Does this make sense? This could be why your back is hurting you. |
