Foods plain yogurt, need to make the switch. HELP PLEASE! Feb 02 2008

I agree with the folks who said that they liked fage total 0%...although when I first switched from more sugary flavored yogurts to plain, it tasted like I was eating sour cream...gross! However, some fresh or thawed frozen berries, finely diced apple, and a sprinkle of granola make it sweeter without adding sugar or splenda.

To say something original for a change...sometimes I will spread the fage 0% on a whole wheat mini bagel in place of cream cheese because it is so thick.
Weight Loss Viactiv Chocolate Calcium Chews Dec 17 2007
03:29 (UTC)
i wouldn't eat the viactiv ones (not vegan) but i have heard that they are really good, considering their calcium content. As for me, I take a huge 600 mg calcium pill from GNC every day. No joke. And it tastes nasty!!!

Maybe the dark chox adora things are vegan...? that would be a dream come true.
Vegetarian Vegan Lemon Tea Cookies... Dec 15 2007

Well technically if you added things like soy flour it could have a lot more protein than the average cookie. Low carb cookies tend to have loads of protein but then are usually full of eggs or egg whites (:-P)

Maybe if you can't find a way to get a lot of protein, just make them like a "breakfast cookie" and do it with oatmeal, dried fruit, etc. and not a lot of sugar.

Hope I helped...ish
The Lounge Too disturbing for the public? Dec 15 2007

This is really controversial. I think abortion just because you don't want a child is wrong. But if both mother and baby are going to die if the mother delivers, isnt it better to save one life instead of losing two? However, that is a rare phenomenon and abortion in general is yucky and a cop-out.

People who are against abortions shouldn't act so crazy though. I mean, yeah you have to get your point across, and sometimes you have to shock people. This can go too far, however. For example, if pro-vegetarian protesters (like PETA as sunkissedbliss said) walk around displaying pix of dismembered animals and throwing blood on fur coats, they actually turn people off from vegetarianism.

Anti-abortion people shouldn't be so graphic but instead should try to educate people about why they think abortion is wrong.

I gotta agree with moodymama...robitussin etc. smell nasty, taste nasty, and are more likely to make you poke than cure your cold.

That being said, my friend got totally wasted on a bottle of nyquil once...must've tasted pretty good lol

The deal with any diet is calories...you could in all honesty eat 3000 calories of fresh fruit/veggies/unprocessed nuts/other raw stuff and if your maintenance is less, you would gain weight. On the flip side, raw diets tend to be high volume/low calorie, so making an active effort to eat enough calories (not all carbs; fats and proteins are essential as are nutrients like calcium and vitamin b12) will keep you out of starvation mode.

There are some great raw vegan places in Boston. I am not raw and have just recently become a vegan, but eating at raw food restaurants is a real treat for me.

OK, well, off I go, and I'm just gonna be honest with him. Turns out he hasn't made the dish yet and I'll just ask him to leave the cream out. He said I could help and change the recipe as I wished. Porblem solved!

I do get what you're saying. But I expected everyone to tell me about excuses, etc. and not about confronting the issue.

The reason I haven't said I'm vegan is because this is my second attempt and I'm afraid people wont take me seriously. I would also like to make it a week before I say anything!

Guys, I'm sorry I flipped a couple minutes ago. I'm just getting agitated because we're leaving in 1/2 hour and the only advice I have gotten is to suck it up and eat the dish.

It wouldn't hurt me to eat the dish, but it would hurt COWS. That's the whole %&^*ing reason why I became a vegan in the first place.

Some real advice please??? Maybe from some actual vegans this time?

Oh, I use Earth Balance and tell them it's healthier/lower cholesterol (which is not a lie) and it's just vegan by accident.

Despite their beef against veganism (ahem), they really are health nuts.

yeah but on tv... now some people will be like "oh, chocolate's okay for pets" and not realize that has any toxicity, even if it only causes problems in large amounts. The whole point of my post was that if you're good enough to show yourself and your pets on tv, you should treat them like real animals and set an example.

That being said, I have had my share of pet+choc=funny story moments myself...

I'm only so very excited because my last 2-month attempt at a vegan diet last spring didn't go so well... but I didn't know an extraordinary amount of info. I've read a number of books (Including "vegan with a vengeance", yum) and plan on seeing a nutritionist this week to devise a plan. I am very happy so far and have been eating 1300-1400 calories a day, with protein varying from 40-60 grams, fat at around 30 grams, and an embarrassing amount of carbs that must be up near 200.

Way more fruits and veggies, also going nuts with fortified foods like soy yogurt, soymilk, and veggie burgers. I feel a little low on fat, because most foods I eat (salads, breads, cereals, vegan proteins) contain next to no fat. I try to eat some PB and different oils.

Any info about supplements? Do I need one? I tend to get almost 200% DV of B12 (through fortified foods) and about 100% DV of calcium and iron. Not so much vitamin D though (maybe 40-60% DV). Suggestions?

Weight Loss is it okay to eat like this? Nov 23 2007

The above was highly generalized...different people need different amounts of calories, and some may need less than 1800. The relevant thing is: eating a big breakfast is good, because it prevents bingeing etc. But I would spread the calories out more and include of few snacks to keep your overall energy levels up.

Also: I do eat eggs and dairy, but dairy is not essential for kids, teens, or anyone. Calcium is, however, and so are a variety of other nutrients. See a dietician/nutritionists if you have questions about vitamin/calorie intake.

I just don't want to wake up on black friday and have gained 2 pounds of fat from eating like 8,000 calories. And anyway, what's so special about thanksgiving that people feel like they have to overeat? The pilgrims were skinny (I think...lol)

The normal slice of pie (1/8 of a pie) really is big. It's easy to feel satisfied and still cut it in half. Half of a lisce of real pumpkin pie runs about 200 calories, which is acceptable for a dessert. On thanksgiving though, I may have to have 1/2 slice pumpkin pie and 1/2 slice squash pie ( still only 400...eesh)

quietearthling- I always do that!! At parties, if others are drinking eggnog, eating cake, etc. I will do the same b/c their doing justifies MY doing it.

I think julieraven's advice is great-- not to let others stress me out, basically. It sometimes helps me to remind myself, do I want to gain more weight/feel unhealthy/have to camp out at the gym to work this off??? The anwer is usually no...
