ofcourse it does. Just make sure you don't deprive yourself for the rest of the day just to make up for it. If you have one day of eating a bit more than normal it's ok, just try to not eat more than you spend, so you don't gain any back. It's so important not to feel deprived when you're dieting and if you eat something you really want every now and then it's not the end of the world.

Dovebunnie: the seafoos you mentioned accounts for a large part of the destruction of coral reefs in the world. In order to catch shrimp, crabs etc the boats fish in very shallow waters close to the coast, and drag their nets along the bottom in order to catch all the creatures lurking there, dragging with them the coral reefs in the process. I know here in Norway shrimp, crab and lobster-fishing accounts for most of the destroyed coral reefs (over half our coral reefs have been destroyed in recent times, it'll take thousands of years for them to rebuild).

If you're quitting seafood remember your flax seeds and walnuts for omega 3. I know you mentioned flaxseedoil, but sometimes it looses alot of it nutrients when it stands around for a time. I bought a coffee grinder that I use to grind flax seeds (with a bit of sesame seeds and sunflower seeds for maximum health benefits). Once ground up I keep them in a small container in the fridge (I've heard that once they're ground up you have to keep them in the fridge and freezer to avoid loosing the nutrients). I eat about two teaspoons a day, by mixing in it with smoothies, soups, stews, oatmeal, yoghurt.. you name it. You can just drizzle it over pizza or do what you like with it. It tastes good, but doesn't taste much if the seeds aren't toasted.

I saw someone saying Hersheys, and as a european, I'd just like to warn you that no European would ever touch the stuff. It's vile, and we're used to much better chocolate.  If I was to say anything especially american I'd say M&Ms. We don't have them in Norway, but I'm not sure about finland. Don't think they do though. Other stuff people mentioned:   Peanut butter is getting widely available here, but it's all got trans fat, so if you can get some of that good healthy stuff that would be good. Tabasco sauce is also widely available in europe.  Also, we also got dry cookies. some proper ones is always appreciated...

I'm sorry, but this is a slightly annoying question. i'm vegetarian, and I make sure I don't make other people jump trough hoops for me because of it. It would be one thing if he served you meat every single day (although if that's how he is used to eat then I could accept that too), but this was a sunday roast dinner. For you to expect other people to make even more of an extra effort simply because you don't want to eat meat, is very selfish. When I have a meal with family or friends that's meat-based, I make my own thing on the side and proceed to eat with them. If you want extra food, make it yourself.

Remember: you made the choice, you knew it would entail paying extra attention, and maybe spending some extra time preparing food. Your family didn't make the choice. They shouldn't be forced to do extra work because of it.

The Lounge has anyone ever been backpacking across Europe? Jun 14 2007

Do it!

I was just where you are now. 19, fresh out of high school, and wanted to travel. I went to school instead, simply because I didn't have anyone to travel with, and had nothing else to do..  I failed miserably at school because I didn't want to be there, and now, 2 years down the line, I'm finally going travelling (working this summer, then I'm leaving for a year). I don't have that much planned, I'm just taking it in stride, but I expect to meet people along the way. I just can't wait any longer. I really wish I'd left 2 years ago. These last two years have been a complete waste. Don't go to school simply because you have nothing else to do. Backpacking Europe on your own isn't a problem, you can do it. Just get yourself a couple of books, and off you go!

Wow, I think I'll try that coffe-banana-shake. sounds great. I live in Norway, so anything containing Crystal Light or cool whip is out of the question. So is chocolate protein powder. Even regular protein powder is way too expensive for me.

Anyone have any recipes that isn't based on certain products?

hey've done studies on artificial sweeteners. Mice that were fed artificial sweeteners ended up consuming three times the amount of calories that their counterparts fed sugar did. A good reason to stay away from that crap.
Fitness Abs after a C-section...is it possibble? Jun 05 2007

Did you get cut horizontally or vertically?

My mom got cut horizontally, and that ment cutting the muscle so they were no longer connected (left side and right side). She could never regain her muscle strenght or look as good. Ironically, it was the fact that her abs were so strong that made her have to have her c-section in the first place. they refused to give my brother room to come out (her doctor checked her hips afterwards, and said she could run a train trough there. Loads of space. Just her stomach was too tight).

Actually, Bunny1986, it is recommended to not have more than FOUR eggs per week for people with high cholesterol, and 7 a week for people without cholesterol-problems.

I'd imagine it's the same for people with heart disease.. Max four per week.

I just founf out about a month ago that I'm completely allergic to dairy (not just lactose intolerant), and I can't even have milk in food products. If it's on the ingredients-list, I can't eat it. I've basically been forced to start cooking all my food from scratch, because it's EVERYWHERE. Very frustrating.

Health & Support lack of energy May 29 2007

I've had low energy levels for most of my life. I just found out a month ago that I'm allergic to dairy. After cutting that out I finally have energy again. I can't tell you how much better I feel. What I'm trying to say is that maybe you have a food-allergy. Maybe you could take some tests?  If not, I recommend looking over your diet, making sure you're getting all the nutrients you need. A multi-vitamin is never a bad idea either.

I've been having big problems with varying my food since I found out I'm allergic to dairy (haven't been able to find any soy products here in Norway), plus I was sick today, so..

Breakfast: (instead of my usual oatmeal I had) pita bread. One half with potato salad and smoked salmon, and one half with Curry lentil spread (I tried to put in a link, but don't know how to do it, and it won't work. Won't let me paste either...) and red bell pepper.

Lunch: Also pita, with curried lentils, smoked salmon, and a bit of potato salad

Dinner: Chicken breast cut in pieces with taco seasoning, with pita bread and a salad.

Evening: Pita bread with curried lentils, almonds, and potato salad.

Snack: apple

As you can see, I went totally pita bread and potato salad crazy today. Not good for me, and certainly not healthy. But being sick, not bthering to cook anything proper, and being low on variety in the house, it was easy and simple...  I'll have to behave better tomorrow. Only thing I can say in my defence is that I stuck to my calories.
Weight Loss BBQ Time, How does the body work with 40%+ cals from fat? May 26 2007

Well, apparently, eskimos get 80% of their calories from fat, so it shouldn't kill you. However, if it's alot of saturated fats I'd recommend you get enough physical activity. Being sedetary and eating that much fat isn't healthy.

You've given me some great ideas. I don't think I'll be supplement-free for a while, but if I can get atleast half my daily requirement from food then that's great.

Thanks for the tips. I'll look into the asian veggies.

Allthough I probably should have mentioned: I live in Norway, and don't have access to any soy products. Also, I'm not lactose-intolerant, I'm allergic, which means that I can't have lactose free milk either. Basically any milk or fake milk-products are out of the question.

But other than that there are som great tips. Thanks :)

If I'm over 1200 I don't eat more than I need, seeing as I'm trying to stick to 1300, and sometimes I go over. But if I'm under 1200 and I'm not hungry, I usually go for some raw almonds and a square of really dark chocolate. It's a really good snack, and high-calorie, so it's easy to reach my daily requirement.
Foods Question about Diet Coke consumption May 22 2007

I drink diet coke with splenda every now and then. I notice that I usually drink it in the evenings when I crave something but have reached my daily calorie-limit. I don't think it's a problem as long as you don't drink too much. I've never thought about the cellulite-factor though.. that might actually be true. body-builders dehydrate themselves before shows so the skin will cling to the muscles and show them off.. I guess the same goes for cellulite and fat (not a pretty thought). I guess you just need to make sure you drink enough water.

I lost more weight when I ate a hot dog almost every day, than I do now when I'm eating healthy (but the same amount of calories). However, I feel healthier now than I did when I ate like that, so I'd still recommend eating healthy.
