Weight Loss How many tries did it take you till you were fully committed to a healthier lifestyle? Jul 16 2008

I think I finally "got it" in 2004. I started to exercise as I was tired of always being tired ( I was at 199 lbs with a 4 month old baby). About 20 of that was baby weight.

I started spinning as we have noon classes where I work. I didn't even make it through my first class, but I kept going back. I was so sore and tired when I started but eventually I started to drop some pounds. I also started keeping track of my food, and would lose weight when I journaled. It took me about a year and a half to get to 146 as it was slow and steady - I'd lose, plateau, then get motivated to lose again.

I think I became much more aware of my "health" over just getting thin, and realized the benefits of being active (I have a lot more energy).

Unfortunately I still fall off the wagon at times and become too lazy to journal (the last 2 years or so). I seemed to be able to maintain around 152, but just recently got on the scale and realized I was up to 158. This was a good kick in the butt to get started again, and I am now motivated to get to my original goal of 140.

Wow I think it is great. I wish they would do that around here! I think this will make more of these chains use healthier ingredients, and make their portion sizes smaller.

I would rather know I am eating a 2000K meal then to so accidentally. At least I can modify my other food intake accordingly, and decide whether that meal is really worth it or not.

"Raising my sons, I've sort of lost the ability to make new friends - I'd like to change that as much as my weight."

I can relate to this. We had our son when we were young (21) and then our daughter six years later. We've had a lot of difficulty making friends as most of our previous friends, did not, or do not have kids yet. So they just don't get that we can't just go out to dinner, or do other things on a whim. And with both of us working, we like to have family time in the evenings and week-ends, which doesn't allow for much friend time.

16. Anything Else You'd Like To Share?I lost 45 pounds a few years ago. I've kept most of it off, except for the 10 pounds I gained back over the last two years. I exercise pretty regularly, so my biggest issue is overeating. So I'm hoping that tracking my calories again, will help take off the pounds.

My thighs have not gotten bigger in the time I have been spinning (almost 3 years), but have instead gotten smaller.

But a few really skinny women in my class have said their thighs get bigger when they spin ALOT (4-5 times a week) as they get more muscular.
