I've had kind of an opposite experience than most people. I lost all of my weight in grad school and by the time I moved to a new state to start a new job, I was at a healthy, average weight (I'm maintaining for the most part now).

Now, I get comments ALL the time when I don't eat massive portions at office potlucks or parties. We had an ice cream cake at work one day, and when I cut a very small slice,  a (male) co-worker said to me, "Aw come-on. I hate when skinny bitches like you don't eat!" I politely responded, "I haven't always been a skinny bitch." and left it at that.

Then last week at our Thanksgiving Potluck, some of the women I work with in their 40s and 50s kept making comments about the amount and types of food I was eating and how, "that must be how you keep your girlish figure and I don't."

I know they mean well and it's insecurity on their part - but it's hard to not flip and be like, "Do you KNOW how hard I worked to look like this and how hard I work every day to stay this way?!?!?!"

I didn't have the opportunity to update yesterday, so here we go:

START     Nov 12-14:  152 lbs.
Week 1.   Nov 19-21: 148.5!
Week 2.   Nov 22-28:
Week 3.   Nov 29-Dec 5:
Week 4.   Dec 6-12:
Week 5.   Dec 13-19:
Week 6.   Dec 20-26:
Week 7.   Dec 27-Jan 2:
Week 8.   Jan 3-9:
Week 9.   Jan 10-16:
FINISH.   Jan 17-23:

I couldn't believe it when I saw 148.5! I had to weigh myself twice to make sure. I ate lunch out on Sunday and had a high sodium meal, so the scale was up a bit today..I'm hoping with water and low sodium intake over the next couple of days, I can get it back down before Turkey Day on Thursday.

Be patient. I'm 26 and lost 90 pounds between the ages of 23-24. Chances are that the skin will firm up over time.Mine did for the most part.

In the meantime, push ups and exercises that tone/strengthen your chest and back can help make things look up (literally :))

Lastly, invest in a good bra that fits! Go to a real bra store and get fitted (not Victoria's Secret - a department store or an undergarment store where they sell old lady bras :)). It will help your skin do its job.

Good Morning everyone! I forgot to update yesterday (Wed) so here I am.

I'm holding steady at 151.5. Earlier this week I saw 150.5, so I'm interested to see what a full night's sleep will do this weekend.

Today is my office Thanksgiving potluck - keep your fingers crossed for me that I can practice some willpower!

I'd also add some kind of dark green food - broccoli or a leafy green salad. The veggies you've listed are really starchy and are on the higher-cal end of things.

Has anyone on the Ring experienced hair loss? I was on it for about a year, but quit because I was losing massive amounts of hair! It was terrifying! Besides that, I LOVED the convenience of the Ring. If the hair thing wasn't an issue, I'd be back on in a second.

I'm back on Ortho Lo and have experienced about a 5 lb. gain. I've gained a cup size and my appetite (sweet tooth especially) has gotten bigger...I don't know if that's just my willpower waning (I was in maintainance before the gain) or a result of the pill.

I'm also SUPER moody. Kinda sucks when you're in a long distance relationship and your mood is all over the place for the 48 hours a week you see your man :(

I don't think that's what the OP meant - she was saying that she wouldn't say no because she didn't love him or because she doesn't see herself marrying him - because she can. She would say no because she doesn't want to be a "fat bride"

First, congrats on losing the weight!

Second, you may want to visit the Fitness forum for resources on how to start firming up the wobbly bits.

For me, I purchased "New Rules of Lifting For Women" which has an entire 6 mo. to 1year workout plan designed to build muscle in women. There is a nutrition plan in the book, but you don't necessarily need to follow it.

It worked for me! I have biceps and triceps and even abs :) I love it.

I always have the best intentions when I go to work in the morning. I pack a small lunch every day with 2 or three healthy snacks.

My issue is that I work for a University where we're always having events that operate around food. At least once every couple of weeks there is an event with cookies, muffins, bagels, quick breads...SOME kind of calorie bomb. On top of that, we have weekly "teatime" where someone brings baked goods. My willpower is good, but not that good!

Weight Loss Lower the sodium or lower the calories? Aug 03 2009

Get the cals under control first, then worry about the sodium.

Sodium is important, but doesn't matter in the long run with weight loss. Yes, it makes you bloat, and yes, it makes you retain water, but ultimately, it's going to be the calorie reduction that contributes to significant loss.

Once you're learned proper portions and your body has adjusted to the amount of food it SHOULD have, you can work on transitioning in low-sodium options.

Some of my favorites...baked potatoes or baked sweet potatoes (just poke a few holes with a fork and microwave them till soft), steamed veggies, scrambled eggs and toast, low-sodium soups, fruit dipped in nonfat yogurt...yum!

I have struggled with the same situation. When I first lost weight, my partner was totally supportive and asked me for help in his attempts at eating better and losing weight. We would cook together and he lost a good 20-25 lbs.

About a year ago, we both took jobs about 3 hours away from each other, and since then, he's gained the weight back and then some. I used to try and regulate his eating when we were together, but my constant questioning of his food choices started to strain our relationship.

Something I realized during that time was that I can't MAKE him do anything. No one will lose weight until THEY are committed to it and want it for themselves. I think I forgot that a bit. Since then he's continued to struggle, but I try to help by going grocery shopping with him when I'm visiting and cooking lots of healthy food (and leaving healthy leftovers!) when I'm there :)

Weight Loss Has anybody lost 60+ pounds without exercise and without extra skin? May 06 2009

Hi!

My starting weight was 238, and my current weight is 148. It took me about 1 year to lose 80 lbs., and another year to lose the last 10.

When I first lost, I had a little wobbly skin, but nothing hanging or out of control. The biggest place I noticed sag was in my boobs (I went from a DDD/E to a large C/small D).

My diet at first was shakey. I still ate crap, but ate only enough crap to fit within my calorie alottment. When I started I ate between 1600 and 1800 calories a day. Since then, I've become a really healthy eater (after I realized that you can eat a lot MORE when it's good for you!).

YES! I exercise and I LOVE it. I hated it at first - hated sweating, hated moving, hated everything - now I can't imagine NOT doing it. At first, I only exercised to supplement my diet (i.e. If I knew I was going out that night, I'd work out to burn off the excess cals I'd consume). Now, I try to work out every other day or everything 3rd day (3-4 times a week). It definitely helps in the weight loss.

I lift weights now (I recommend the book New Rules of Lifting for Women), and it has made the BIGGEST impact on my body. Any place where I was still jiggly is firm now, or getting there, and I FEEL strong. I highly recommend a combination of interval cardio and strength training.

Feel free to message me if you have questions!

Hi Putz...welcome!

First, if you've set your activity level at sedentary, I would recommend just logging exercise or any vigorous activity that's out of the ordinary (like if you spend Saturday mowing the lawn or cleaning the house from head to toe). Things lke cooking and sleeping aren't really worth logging, in my opinion.

Secondly, what are your starting stats? 1000 calories is a big deficit when you're starting out. I'd be worried that you'll end up hungry and dissatisfied because your body is used to so much more food. Try working with a 500-700 calorie deficit to start, and see if you lose with that.  My gut says you probably will!

Good luck!

Weight Loss Stuff About Weight Loss That Bugs Me Mar 15 2009

I used to get a lot of these comments when I first lost the weight. I would get a lot of "I almost didn't recognize you!"

In July, I moved from Michigan to Maryland, and it's definitely interesting being the "skinny girl." It's so wierd to me to think that these people assume that I've been this weight and looked this way my entire adult life. It feels like I'm walking around with this big secret.

The obnoxious thing about this is that people assume that I've always been the healthy girl - that I have no clue what it's like to be discriminated against because of my weight. People assume they "know" me because of how I look now.

If you want a bodybugg....why not just buy one?

Heart Rate monitors are designed for use during workouts only. As far as I know, they're not very accurate in tracking your calorie burn throughout the day. The most accurate have chest straps - what's your opposition to them?

I have a polar HRM and LOVE it. It tracks my heart rate (and I can get a reading without pressing any buttons - it's just there). It also tracks calories burned, stores your workouts and target heart rate. It has a chest strap that is fairly comfortable.

Weight Loss How fast have people lose weight? Mar 10 2009
17:14 (UTC)

The rate of weight loss will depend almost entirely on how heavy you are at your starting weight and how close you are to a healthy weight.

If you are 50 lbs. or more overweight, it's likely that you will lose pretty quickly to start. For me, I was a female at 238 and dropped between 2 and 3 lbs a week for the first 30-40 lbs I lost. After that, it slowed to around 1-2 lbs a week.

I've lost a total of 90 pounds and kept it off for over a year, and the last 10 have been SO slow to come off. Once you are in the healthy BMI range, my opinion is that it should be more about fitness and getting in shape than about pounds lost. The weight will come off, but it will be a slow process.

Hope that helps. I know you're not worried about being healthy as you lose, but I hope you'll consider doing things the right way - it's really the most effective and best way to lose weight and KEEP it lost.

At 243, you should be eating around 1600-1700 on a no exercise day. Depending on how long you've been eating like that, you could be not losing because you're not eating.

Are you watching your portions? Just because you're eating healthy food doesn't mean you can eat unlimited amounts of it.
