| I have just one question. When I am calculating my BMR should I rate myself as sedentary or light activity? For the past 3 weeks I have been working out 3-5 times per week. Which has worked I have lost 6 pounds exactly today, but I do work in an office at a desk all day.
What I have been doing is going out for a short walk at lunch time just to get my circulation going and keep my motivation up. |

| The information that you all have provided is the best I have heard so far and it makes absolute sense. I have on some days been starving my body to the point where I get headaches.
So if I understand. I should definetely be consuming enough calories to at least make my BMR. As long as I make healthy food choices and keep up with my excercise routine then I am gauranteed to lose weight. Not only will I lose weight, but I will no put on weight the minute that I eat a slice of cake at an office party. Oh yeah and I will prevent my body from burning muscle which if vital to boost my metabolism. This information is a revelation and I thank you for sharing it. |

| The Lounge | Does anyone watch thos fitness shows on television. Such as Body Challnge, Health Cops, Biggest Loser. | Aug 03 2007 16:25 (UTC) |

| I am not sure of the day and time for Shaqs big challenge. That one is not a regular for me I alway catch it by accident. I watched it this week and it seemed to be at the end because they showed what the kids looked like after their 9 month weigh in. It did not hold my attention that well, I think that is probably because I could not relate to the childrens issues.
Gosh if you want a motivator definetely check out the Discovery Health Obesity shows. Big Medicine and Brook Haven Obesity. They show people at their largest which just makes me realize I do not want that to happen. They also show the difficulties people have after losing hundreds of pounds when it comes to the excess skin. If you like Biggest Loser you will really like Body Challenge that comes on the fitness network. It airs on Fridays I am not sure a what time though just because I always catch it on the dvr after the fact. I will check though. It is in the evening I think at 9 or 10. What they do on the body challenge that is really good is each week they show what one of the contestants looks like after the show is over. The results are so amazing. It just keeps my drive up. |

| Weight Loss | Is 1800 calories too much??? | Aug 02 2007 01:48 (UTC) |

| 1800 does sound like a lot, but it might be right for you. Whatever you do just don't deprive yourself because the moment you do anything different any weight that has been lost will come right back in abundance.
1800 is hard to reach when you are eating healthy. Fruits and vegetables only add up so much. Along with the number of calories be sure to watch your fat intake. |

| I think the general standard is that a woman should not consume less than 1200 calories per day. I know it is hard for me to just stay at 1200 even if I really concentrate and plan my meals. My CW is 185 and my GW is 128. I have been loosing right on average 1-2 lbs. a week for three weeks straight, so I am right on target. I have been able to consume anywhere from 14-1500 calories per day. On days that I work out I even allow myself a special treat such as a hersheys kiss or small peice of cake if it is someones birthday at work. I am just sure to limit my portion size. Today I even splurged on a bagel with cream cheese for breakfast. It cost me almost 400 calories, but I made sure to do a full hour of step aerobics when I got home this evening. It's really a balancing act. Wait, I correct myself you do not want to balance. You want to burn more calories than you intake. That is where the food and activity log come in handy. The calculators are great because you can visually see how many more calories you burned than you consumed. I'm rambling, but I'm pretty sure you get the point. |

| I would definetely like to be a part of this challenge. I began my weight loss efforts approximately 2 years ago once I started nearing 180 lbs. Fair to say I have not been very successfull in my attempts.
Just a month ago I had lost 10 lbs. and was weighing in at 169. I got on the scale Monday night after watching Big Medicine on TLC and realized that my current weight is 190.5 lbs. I knew that I had gained weight, but did not imagine I had gained over 20 lbs. I think a challenge like this would be very helpful to me. |
