hmmm... Thats a good question.  I suppose since I have no real motivation internal or external thats most likely why I find it so hard to loose weight.

Hi there.  Im new to this thread.

My Stats:Wieght: 155lbs  Hight: 5'6.5"  Build: Medium Age: 24

GOAL: 130lbs by next year or sooner.  AND FOREVER!!!

What I do: I eat around 1200 calories a day when I am having a good day.

I go to the gym and get in about 30-60 min of cardio plus a 30-45 min strength training session five times a week.   I am fairly active.  I don't own a TV so that means I have to find my entertainment elswhere and I don't drive very often (unless there is an emergency or a long trip planned) so I walk everywhere I need to go.

My problem, consistancy.  Sometimes I am really good.  Sometimes I eat all day.  I know I can't loose weight because I am afraid.  I had borderline anorexia a few years ago and ever since my "recovery" I haven't gained a decent relationship to food.  I am afraid to start counting calories again because thats what started the anorexic obsessive behaivours.  But I know calorie counting works... any ideas for a fearmonger such as myself???
Weight Loss Trying to lose 10 lbs. forever club Aug 04 2007

Hi there.... I am not entirely new to this site... but I wasnt really sure what my goals should be untill today. I love this group because it dosn't really focus on what you weigh  only that you are trying to loose 10 forever.   A little history on me...

My Mom is a Yo- Yo dieter.  I was always kinda chunky but it didn't bother me much becuase I new both of my parents were larger and it ran in the family.  When I started working out My wieght sky rocketed... I know I was putting on muscle but I also kept the fat... or so I thought... I started to get a little concerned so I went on a ridiculously low cal diet.   Of course thats when the trouble started... I lost 40lbs real quick... then gained them back.... then lost and now I have gained them back again.  I still work out and am in good shape but I am just so large.

I guess Im here because I really want to loose 10lbs while staying in shape.  Instead of not eating and loosing 10lbs due to muscle loss.    So I guess I need some diet advice.  I need to take in approximatly 1300 calories a day.  How does everyone else stay within that goal in a healthy way???

Also if anyone needs exercise advice that is something I know a bit about.

Be Carefull not to get overzelous on the water front though.  I started drinking 8 glasses a day because I wanted to feel better but on the second day I guzzeled around six glasses over an hour and I got the worst stomach cramps.   Other then that the advice everyone else is giving seems sound.

Thank you so much for this post... I am in recovery and I have put weight back on... now I am working on the psychological aspects of this tourture.  I don't feel so alone now.  The only people I seem to meet are either still severely underweight or undereating, or trying to loose weight.  All I want is to be normal again.    I think that everything you are going through is somwhat normal for this type of recovery.  I so get the wishing you never started the anorexic path... keep posting we can work together!

Weight Loss What triggered your weight gain? Jun 27 2007
16:09 (UTC)

I was always larger... but never really unhealthy.... but the real weight gain was triggered by my first starvation diet.  Boy was that ever a mistake.... sure I lost 50lbs and my lowest wieght was 108lbs (I'm 5' 6.5") but I put it all back on and then some when I tried to start eating normally again reasulting in a weigh in of about 160lbs.  The normal eating made me gain then the depression from gaining inspired me to gain more...the cycle continued.... starve and gorge, starve and gorge, now my metabolism is so messed up its really hard to eat well and loose anything.... I am lucky if I can maintain the 155lbs I am now let alone loose.... Its going to take a long time.  But I really want it dont you?

Thanks for the ideas.... Im glad Im not the only one faced with this trouble...  people don't seem to understand that when you are struggling to loose weight alcohol really messes with your healthy habits and good results after all it is poisen! I am glad I don't need alcohol to have a good time but is unfortunate that most people think that you do.

I like the piggy idea!  Thanks for the suggestions keep them coming!

Weight Loss can't get back on track! Jun 25 2007

I sooo fell off the wagon at the end of the school year.  I was doing so well too.... I know how this feels. It is a struggle to get back on track, and it seems as though the weight that you lost should just vanish when you have decided to get back on track but it doesnt.   I forget about how long it took to loose it the first time.  But I agree... stop thinking about how much your loosing and stop thinking about food.  Stick to healthy food and an exercise scheduale and maybe weigh in once a week to make sure you are on track but thats how I have been dealing with it.  I am trying to do this slowly and surely so it will last the rest of my life instead of untill next year.

Keep posting that way we can keep motivating each other and staying on track.

    - good luck.

I don't disagree at all... I think all of the calculations are differnt depending on all sorts of factors.   I work out heavy five times a week and light on the weekends, I eat around 1200 a day and I am still gaining (because I am putting on healhty muscle and loosing that not so healthy fat).

Hey David Good Job on the weight loss.   I have to agree with Jainasolo.... This is a critical time where you are going to develop the habits that will help you maintain your healthy weight.  But Fear is not a good thing, and if you can't overcome it, you should talk to a professional, a nutritionist, a councellor, or even go to a family doctor to see what they recommend.   Beleive me if you can't get over these feelings of anxiety you will have a really hard go.  I have had some expereince with this.

Its not the Commertials that do it to me... its the smell.. you ever notice when you pass a pizza place and you have been avoiding that kind of food it smells like they are pumping the sent right onto the street.  Or Even when M&M's does their BBQ I can smell it for a good block... it attracts me....
Motivation why are we overweight?????????????? Jun 21 2007

I agree with tully.   I was healthy and happy before I went on my first diet.  That diet turned into anorexia... which turned into a binge eating disorder, which now is a cycle of binge and restrict.  Leading to a low metabolic rate and an extra pound every time I gain that will never go away.

Thank you for this question... I was feeling the same way.. I am rather muscular... 5'6.5" and am around 155lbs... and loosing is taking forever.  I feel like I am a failure.  I eat right most of the time.  And I exercise vigorously 5 times a week. Lightly on the weekends.  I just can loose the weight.  I originally wanted to get down to 125.  But I can see now that I would have to loose some of my wonderfull muscle to do that.   I just hate that the BMI index says I am overweight.  It bugs me, so I have ajusted my first goal to be 145lbs.  Then I will see how I feel once I am there.  I will see if it is maintainable.

Definatley, go to the gym... It will help you concentrait, no lies.  Start right now get into a habit.

Also you can now plan your own meals and have your own food around.  If you really can handle the chocolate habit... I used to keep on really good quality bar in the house and anytime I was tempted to buy when I was out I would remember that I had some at home, by the time I got home I would look at it and think... Ill save it untill I really need it ... like during exams.

Remember, If you don't buy junk food you can save alot of money.

First of all I live in Ontario too... second... I still have all of these feelings and thoughts but I don't know who to talk to because (I don't want to scare anyone)  I have gained back my weight because I gain weight really easily... and because of this I just want to lose... I don't want to maintain because I not only feel like I am the fattest in the room I am .  I have been doing this for so long...

Sorry.   Gaining the wieght back is just the first step. You are right Kylie, it is mental and that is that voice in your head is the hardest thing to change.

Thank you... I am doing good... I was planning to go to the gym tonight so I am not going out right now... but I like the ideas.... It also feel good to know that some of you understand how I feel... I have been feeling irrational... I have been making some real attempts to change my responses to situations lately just being in the house with all the food, and not bingeing, and writing it out in my "novel" (one day I hope) has been a major victory for me... I think I can keep this up.

In his defence... he met her out west and was her boss so they never really got together because he had a strict policy about that...She is just stopping by as she goes through our city toward back home... far away, thats why they are getting together just to catch up.  She has always provided him with advice which he finds helpfull... who am I to deny him that.

Thanks again... The battle cry reverberates... We will win the weight wars together!!!
