Weight Loss Never feeling full? Oct 29 2008

Original Post by novileigh:

I try to plan that my cals are spread throughout the day, so even if I don't FEEL full, I know that I do have food in me at all times.

A tablespoon of extra virgin coconut oil in the morning keeps me feeling pretty full throughout the rest of the day though.

A TB of EV coconut oil? That acts as an appetite suppressant? Do you have breakfast with it as well?

I have a pair of skinny jeans by Levi. I love them, I wear them almost every day. I got them in the juniors department though... But that's fine because I'm super short and don't want any extra length, haha.

I am sorry for the loss of your last husband. What are you stats? Height? Current weight? Goal weight? Based on your height and weight you can figure out how many calories you should consume during a day. It also depends on how much exercise you do.

I almost said Jen Aniston! I think she has a great body too. And I agree, Eva still has hips and a booty but manages to look very slender!

I don't think it's just a fashion week thing for Anne Slowey. She is a maniac. Seriously.

I was surprised by how much the female model ate, actually. That seems to be how much food a model eats normally, and on fashion week you wouldn't want to be bloated and whatnot. But if Anne has time to down 4384938 vitamins, I think she can eat a protein bar for breakfast. And while there's pressure for her to be thin as she's in the industry, she won't lose her job if she's 10 lbs heavier like a model would.

How do you know she eats this way all the time? Are you a close friend or relative? Maybe she's like me - I'm not hungry at all for the first 2-3 hours when I get up.

...yeah she's just also "not hungry" for the remaining 16 hours of the day...

She also doesn't list how much of certain foods she ate. For the Camembert and crackers, guacamole and chips, and fennell salad, it doesn't say how much. She could have had a whole box of crackers and a cup of guacamole. Not a high likelihood but still, we don't know. And really, I think it was just because of fashion week.

Okay, see, I think some CC members are hypocritical and just downright rude.

I see all the time people starting topics like "I ate 4000 calories today!" or "I had 10 doughnuts for lunch!" or "I binged 3 days in a row!" and are almost always consoled and told "Oh it's okay sweetie, just keep going, you can do it!"

Um, why is it fine to condone an unhealthy eating habit like severely overeating or making a meal of something completely void of nutritional value?... Then when someone posts "I only had 400 calories today." they are bashed and called unhealthy? Truth is BOTH are unhealthy and obviously sometimes people slip - either by over or under eating - but I have a problem when people seemingly condone overeating and look down upon people who sometimes don't eat enough.

Like someone else said, I'm sure it's not a way of life for Anne Slowey - it was fashion week and she was insanely busy. Sometimes people have days where they are incredibly stressed and busy and don't have time to/forget to eat. It doesn't make it any worse than pigging out like a cow for a day or week.

Take into consideration also, a lot - I mean a LOT of the people on here who post up that they only ate 400 calories, say they do it FREQUENTLY, and usually have some sort of eating disorder going on as well. And there are a lot of people on this site who are very supportive to encourage others to increase their calories kindly. Do not simply just chose to see that people who under eat get 'attacked' while others are not. You are selectively reading, and since comming to this site I have read rude comments for both spectrums (over and under eating) as well as sympathetic, kind comments for both as well. uusually posters who get 'attacked' for under eating, have been posting up their undereating for long periods of time and are looking for some sort of sick satisfaction in posting their starvation and are not really looking for support.

But, I must agree as well, there is a lot of stress surrounding the Fashion wekk, however, on that SAME site (I clicked around) they brought up the Eating Disorder issue in the ashion industry, and it pinpoints just how hard it is to keep a healthy view of food and eating when the moment your weight gets up past a certain level, the risk of you getting tossed aside is even more increased. I feel sorry for models, and I don't think they deserve to have so much flak for just trying to keep in such a cut-throat environment.

I don't selectively read posts... I as well have seen supportive and attacking comments for both sides, but it's mostly the undereaters who are attacked. People need to keep in mind that this site isn't just about losing weight, it's about changing eating habits in either direction to become healthy. Yes I agree I get annoyed when I see posts like "im 13 5'7 and 92 lbs, what do i do?" from the same poster over and over, yeah, that's wanting attention. But for some people, it's just as hard to make yourself eat as it is for another person to cut back and not eat as much.

And I'm just saying that in our society, if someone habitually overeats, they're just a typical American or they have a big appetite or whatever. Unless they are morbidly obese, rarely would a person say to them "You have a psychological disorder, you need to seek help." But when a person habitually undereats, it's all "You need to get help. You have a problem."

This about it, if you went out to dinner 3 times with a person who had an appetizer, fatty entree, and dessert to themselves, you probably wouldn't confront them about it. If anything you'd just think to yourself "Hm, they sure are eating a lot.." BUT if you went out 3 times with a person and all 3 times they only had a small salad or less, most people would say "Hey why aren't you eating? What's wrong with you? You need to eat more." I just don't think that's right.

I personally love it when I get them- it's a sign my metabolism is alive & well after years of abuse. I spent so long living in starvation mode I now know what its like to feel hungry, eat, and enjoy food. And yes- I do eat something to alleviate them, I just smile when they happen!Wink

Me too!  I think I can actually FEEL the fat being sucked from my body to be digested, esp at night when I'm trying to go to bed.  Makes me happy!  I guess its really weird, but its a power trip for me...lol.

See that's exactly how I feel! If I feel really hungry I don't think to rush to the fridge because I'm "missing something and my body is telling me to eat." I take it as a sign that, like you two said, my metabolism is working and I'm losing weight. I remember seeing an Oprah episode on weight (one of many!) where she talked about being hungry at night and ignoring it because, as she said, "I can either run to the kitchen for some cookies, or my body can eat it from my butt!" Or, something to that effect... lol.

Yeah appetite suppression can often be a side-effect of precription pills ...I started taking oxytetracyclene for my acne and didn't eat anything for nearly two days without realising.

But this is bad, obviously.

Yep. I went an entire day without eating and then the next day I only had a Starbucks drink! YIKES! Like I said though, I force myself to eat now!

Well I was recently dianosed with adult ADD and was put on Adderall. WOW. Talk about an appetite supressant! It COMPLETELY takes away your appetite. Food sounds totally unappetizing when I take it. I have to FORCE myself to eat even a few bites of chicken.

Now, obviously you shouldn't take it without doctor's orders. But, just saying, it definitely makes you eat less.

I've been taking Alli for about 2 weeks. I can't say I've seen a huge loss in weight, and luckily I haven't had any "accidents". Not to be all nasty but, yeah, when you number 2, there's orange colored oil droplets in there. Yeah. Like I said, it hasn't caused any embarassing side effects. I have noticed my jeans fitting a bit better, but like waveride02 said, I have also been counting cals and stuff, so who knows if the Alli is helping at all.

Ahhh meganclifford... you hit the nail on the head. When I met my sweetie, I had been exercising and eating healthy for about a year and had gone from a size 12/14 to a size 2/4. Well, flash forward 3 months into dating and I gained about 20 lbs. and went to a 6/8. Now I'm back on the bandwagon. My honey is blessed with an incredible metabolism (and great genetics - his parents are in great shape) and can basically eat anything he wants. For a few weeks it seemed like I was getting away with eating what he ate, but then it seemed like overnight the weight crept back on me. So for the last few weeks I've been mopey and depressed over how I gained it back.. so, back to healthy eating and running!

I'm right there with you! I lost about 50 lbs. 6 months ago, then 30(!!!!!) crept back on. Now I need to knock that off. I really really need motivaton because at night, I have no access to TVs or computers and I'm too tired from work and class to work out, so I tend to just sit and eat. Ugh! I HAVE to do this!

Hey there, welcome! I started about 8 months ago and since then I lost around 40-45 lbs. I'm on the last 10-15 lbs, and it doesnt become more difficult the closer you get. At first, the weight just fell off, now it's slowly peeling off. Just keep at it and don't give up!

I know, I realize it's obsessive. But I've trained myself to count every calorie and like I said, I'm a creature of habit and if something changes for the "worse" like this is, I don't like it. I guess I could slightly shave some calories off the other days to balance it.

No, I've been eating as well.

Hmm, Sorbital? Another non-nutritive sweetener! And to think I've been avoiding pop and diet pop because of Aspartame!

Which do you think is worse for you - Diet pop w/ Aspartame (and no calories... hm) or Sugarless gum with Sorbital (and some calories)? I can't give up both!!!

I agree with her too... In the last 8 months I went down from a size 34 pants (I think that's a 14 maybe?) to a 27/26 which is a 4/2. The first 5 months or so was 1000 calorie a day or so healthy meals like fruit, veggies, salmon, whole wheat and exercise.. then i got desperate, skipped the gym, and ate around 200 calories a day for around 2 months (I know, that's horrible!!). I've added more calories and I didn't gain back. In fact, I'm still "coasting" to more weight loss. So, I don't think starvation mode means you'll gain it all back.

OMG, I did lunges and squats 3 days ago for like 10 minutes and for the next 3 DAYS I've been sore!!! I used to work out, but never focused solely on thighs/butt, it was more just cardio like the treadmill. Well, atleast the afterburn means it's working! I'm going to keep doing them until I'm toner.. that is if I can stand it!

Ahhh, body type. I forgot about that. Well, I definitely have a pear shape. I'm very thin from the waist up, but I have always thought I had huge thighs. Maybe those girls are "apple" shaped, where they are bigger in the stomach area. Hm.

Thanks for the input!

It's true that like irisica said, I make healthy food choices now anyways, but I still feel compelled to count every little calorie.

I haven't been using a scale at all all along, I've just been going by measurements and pant size. I think that like pennyhollett said, I'll just make sure my pants don't get too tight ever, and if they do, I'll modify my diet a little bit. I know for a fact I'll never buy a larger size than a 4 again until I'm pregnant!

Hmmm... well she's 15, not 5. You can't MAKE her lose weight. Often times when parents try to pressure their kids to lose weight, it backfires and the kids eat more to rebel.

Anyways, I don't understand - do you have a question? I get she's riffed you want her clothes, but... otherwise, what's the issue?
Weight Loss best life diet Apr 17 2007

I have the book. Basically Phase 1 is slowly phasing things out and adding exercise to your life. Phase 2 is the "intense phase" where things like white bread/rice, alcohol, refined sugars, etc. are removed from your diet and the pounds really come off. Phase 3 is more about maintaining.
Weight Loss Question about my calorie diet Mar 31 2007

I'm a person of routine - Every Friday me and my family go out to dinner at J. Alexander's and I end up having some of the chips and salsa, half of a salad, and a little bit of cheesecake. That exact same meal every Friday. I account for the calories and actually I fit it into my allowance, which makes the "cheating" all the more enjoyable!

I'd say 4 days a week or so I am very strict with my food choices and calories, 2 days a week I am less strict about exactly what I eat, but still am well within calorie allowance, and the other day I have the "cheat" day which is usually J. Alexander's. I typically always stay at or under my allowance, I just choose foods that aren't nutritionally healthy - like the chips/salsa and cheesecake.

To me, cheating is staying within the calorie allowance, just having "naughty" foods. For some people, cheating is going over the calorie allowance, but I rarely ever do that unless it's a very special occasion!
