| Health & Support | Bloated? | May 20 2008 10:11 (UTC) |
|
Salt and heavy carbs make me bloaty. I stopped eating pasta, rice, oats and bread and the bloating has stopped. I don't eat large heavy meals and that certainly has made a difference with digesting food. I also take a super enzyme with lunch and dinner, they seem to be helping digest my food better. I also drink 2+ liters of water daily and it really helps. |

Hey Zulu!! Good to see you! I'm doing really well down here in sunny Bristol (well sunny today at least!) Finally moving home to San Francisco in 4 weeks, can't wait! Busy packing, selling stuff and not sleeping well cause my dang brain won't stop! Haven't gained any weight but have not exercised at my usual level. I'm not eating much and burning calories constantly moving around, so thats good! Hi Mandy & Laura!!

Google "Master Cleanse" and you will find loads of info, forums and many people who do it and continue to do it year after year. This isn't the place to get any positive answers about it. Good luck! |

I use db's at home. You just have to mix up your routine and increase the weights over time. I prefer working out in my own home. :) |

Bay 2 Breakers is one of the best days in San Francisco! You must go, even if you stop along the way! I have done it for the last 5 years with my huge group of friends, but we party the entire way! No running for us! This is my first year missing it as I won't be home until June. Hope you have a blast! Go early in the morning too and keep your eyes open for the salmon running up stream...they have been going out there for years in their salmon costumes and now they have their kids with them! Great fun for everyone...I'm sad thinking about missing it! |

I put vanilla soy pp in my steel cut oats and in smoothies. I love the flavor! But it's the brand I use that I like. I tried another brand, just plain and it was awful!!! |

I have 9 weeks until I move home and attend my best friends wedding. 500 calorie deficit p/day, 2-3 liters of water p/day, yoga, cardio and weights are my plan! Only allowing myself to have 2 cheat meals per week. And no more drinking nights...they totally mess me up for several days after!

I use it only in my coffee. It takes some getting used to but it helped me break my sugar addiction (I used to put a tablespoon of sugar in my daily coffee!) Splenda and I don't get along, it gave me awful stomach cramps. |

I was exactly the same as you, added 2 tablespoons sugar to 16 ounces of coffee! I accounted for it in my daily calories but just felt it was holding me back. And giving me other sugar cravings during the day. So I quit cold turkey and started using a small amount of stevia. I don't do splenda (it gave me horrible stomach cramps) The stevia is working great! I get a little sweetness without all that awful sugar. You can do it! Just give it a try and like gi-jane said you will eventually get used to the taste. Also, I realized how good my coffee is without all that sugar in it! |

I'm continually shocked over the response to certain threads around here! I recently gave up sugar in my coffee for stevia, no other artificial sweeteners or sugar in my diet. I keep my sodium around 1000mg or less per day and drink 2 liters of water. This has made a huge difference in the bloaty thing I had going on. Oh and the biggest thing I gave up, alcohol. My drinking nights were my worst enemy. I'm now on a break from drinking for a while. It really messes me up for several days after. Good luck and hope you feel better soon! |

This is the psyllium that I buy but you can find them at most health food stores or whole foods market. http://www.nowfoods.com/index.php?action=item detail&item_id=3456 Google "probiotic" and you can read about them. I bought these when I was home last http://www.nowfoods.com/index.php?action=item detail&item_id=3561 Bobs Red Mill makes a good flax seed meal, whole foods market or trader joes will have them. I add them to my oatmeal, scrambles and smoothies. Another good source of fiber with a nutty like flavor.

Smooth Move tea in the evening before bed. Let the bag sit in the water for 10 minutes and drink slowly. Do not make a habit of it but it does work when you are feeling a bit stuffed up. Other things that really keep me regular are steel cut oats with 2 tbs ground flax seed for breakfast. I also take 1 tbs psyllium husk powder mixed with 8 oz of water/juice first thing in the morning followed by more water. Also try first thing in the morning hot water with a slice of lemon. And last but not least I take a strong probiotic supplement every night before bed. All of these things keep me regular everyday. I hope you feel better soon! I know it's such an awful feeling to be bloated, but something will work you just gotta try them all out! |

| Vegetarian | Soy/Almond/Rice milk? | Apr 16 2008 12:03 (UTC) |

The banning of stevia in the UK is just ridiculous. Luckily I brought some back from my last trip home. I love the unsweetened almond breeze, it's tasty. The almond milk I have found here is sweetened with agave nectar. I've also made my own and used 2 soaked dates and vanilla seeds....so yummy but much higher in calories. Stupid calories! |

| Weight Loss | Belly Bloat From Good Food? | Apr 15 2008 10:23 (UTC) |

Chew your food very slowly until it's almost all mush before you swallow, this helps the stomach and also produces stomach acid needed to start the digestion. Do not drink any fluids while eating as it dilutes those stomach acids. Veggies, beans and legumes are very hard to digest. I've been vegetarian for two years and still have a hard time digesting them. I now eat beans and lentils in smaller quantities and lightly steam most veggies.

| Foods | vegetables that are healthier cooked than raw? | Apr 15 2008 10:06 (UTC) |

Unfortunately cooking most vegetables makes them lose valuable enzymes needed to digest them. But for me, raw veggies are harder to digest! I love them both but tend to lightly steam most so they are still crunchy but not raw. |
