Post was a little late, but weigh in was done on Thursday. I'm still getting back in the swing of things so I'm not focussing entirely on weight lost, but mostly on making small changes to my eating habits. Hopefully the next weigh in will be better.

Hope you don't mind my starting late... I've just come back to CC after a 4mth absence (fell off the wagon AGAIN, but luckily didn't gain any weight during this time. Didn't lose weight either though). I really need accountibility and I'm hoping this will help me out a little. I put yesterday morning's weight as my 1/1/2009 weight but will continue to weigh in with everyone else.

I missed one weigh-in date- was very busy and couldn't log in all of last week. But my total weight loss for the month is
5.8 lbs, out of 7 (my goal). Not bad, considering I had 2 very very bad days! And technically, the month still has 3 days, so I could still get pretty close to 214. I'm very happy with this result!

Good Morning everyone!!!

Hope everyone has a great day!

Weighed myself this morning to find 216.2!!! Very happy about that, even though my goal this month was 214. But any weight loss is a good weight loss. I'm not really AS concerned about how long it takes, as long (ok, so maybe that's a little bit of a lie...) as all the weight comes off and I see a more or less steady decline in the numbers.

Since my workout was thwarted last night (see journal for that story), I'm going today. And then again either tomorrow or sat, I'll go for a swim.

How's everyone doing this morning?

Totally agree. Its all in the mind, I think, but it works. Go shopping after you have a large meal, you're much less tempted to buy in large quantities...

Sonini- do NOT get bummed. One bad food choice doesn't mess you up for life. Its a minor setback. Go for an extra long walk, or (if you can) do some sort of exercise that burns about 400 cals... that's about 30-40 mins on the elliptical, not a complete waste. And if you can't, just realize that its only one day, and you're changing your health for a better LIFETIME.

Watchme- Read comments from you're jounal entry and don't get bummed. We all go through it. some worse than others, but the important thing is to get THROUGH it and not give up.

Anyone here in school? I start on tuesday and I'm a little bummed about that myself. Where did the summer go?!?

I'm a student as well. I'm in my last yr of uni. getting my Bachlor's degree in Accounting. I'm taking a yr or two off from my studies after this yr and then I'm going back to get either a CGA or CFA... haven't decided yet.

I'm 5'4, 217 lbs. (heaviest at 225). Right now my goal is to lose to about 150, and then I'll re-evaluate my weight loss. But 150 is going to be enough of a challenge for me right now that I'm not even thinking about anything afterwards.

Snacking during exams is the worst. When I study, jelly beans are my worst enemy. they're just so easy to pop into your mouth, and they taste sooo good.

When do you guys start back at school? I'm back on Tuesday, and dreading it. This summer was just way too short for my liking...

Pixie- I used to *love* Lean Cuisines, back when they just came out. They were delicious, and there was enough chicken to fill me up. I’ll admit that I used to have about 4-5 every week. Then I think when it caught on with the public and got poplar, they slowly started to cut corners. I’ve recently had one after not touching them in about a yr (chicken with vegetables, I believe) and I couldn’t BELIEVE how disgusting it was. And there was about half the amount of chicken… so I totally agree with you.

Souffers has these big bags of frozen veggies though, and I usually toss one on the skillet for awhile and add my own chicken, maybe some mushrooms, and it’ll end up being 2-3 full meals…

Reddy- congrats! That’s fantastic news!

Liza- you can totally see the weight loss in your face- and I love the wedding photo- you look really happy J

Hi Candy & Misty- Welcome! The tools on this site are amazing, and so are all the people, so don’t be shy!

Liza- looked at your profile- where did you get the current weight/goal weight photo? I’d like to get one done myself… and a big congrats on the weight loss to date!!

Yup on the PB weakness… I used to have some on toast every morning until I saw how many cals it has… so now it’s a bowl of oatmeal and a banana…. sigh*, I miss my PB…

Watchme- I posted on your journal entry that I wanted to join the challenge, but I’ll post here as well in case you didn’t see. SW- 218.4 GW by Dec 31/Jan 1- 190lbs… so 28.4 lbs in just over 4 months… doable, do you think? Or should I revise to 195lbs…

I’m also thinking about eventually training to do a triathlon. I’m by no means anywhere near that level of fitness, but I figure it could be something to work towards… totally inspired by watching the Olympics! I started looking up triathlon training programs and there’s some that I could start doing, even from my current fitness level, although it may take more than a yr to finally achieve. But I just think it could be an awesome achievement once I get there! And its totally motivating me to get my behind to the gym…
Fitness knee injury, please help! Aug 19 2008

I've had a problem with my knee since my early teens as well. It seems to be something called 'patelar dislocation'. It used to happen to me about once/ twice a yr from the age of 13 until my early 20s. The last time, I damaged some cartilage (and now get a nifty crackling in my knee everytime I walk) and a torn miniscus. I was on crutches for awhile and I now have to wear a brace anytime I exercise.

Take care of your injury first. Seriously. Take it easy for awhile. According to my specialist. ellipical and stationary bike is best (once you're completely healed). Bikes especially because it tends to strengthen the muscles surrounding the knee, so you prevent the injury from reoccuring.

I was told I may need knee replacement surgery but they want to wait until I'm older so that I'd only have to have one or two in my lifetime, since knee replacements only last about 15 yrs...

Can't stress this enough: TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF!!

Alright… only been doing this for a few weeks and I’ve slipped already. Last week, after TTOM I weighed myself and was thrilled to find 217.2!!! Then came a few days of maintenance eating, (due to not getting on CC and logging or journaling). I was overestimating my portion sizes and not keeping myself accountable. But at least that was (approx) just maintenance eating, so it wasn’t so bad.

Then this weekend happened. My friend’s bday. And I already told myself that I’d indulge a little. However… I totally overdid it. 2 slices of pizza, not so bad. A few handful of chips, worse, but still not the end of the world. But I DRANK. SO. MUCH. Without intending to. It was all vodka and OJ, with one rum & coke (Bad girl that I was, I mixed my alcohol). But I can’t really estimate how much I drank, since entire portions of the evening are complete blurs to me. I NEVER drink to excess. Its only happened once before, and that (it’s a long story) was never really my fault (Honestly.).

Apparently everyone had about the same level of booze as I, because there was a ton of alcohol at the party, only 12 of us, and everything disappeared. Then came yesterday’s monster hangover. We all went out for breakfast to Cora’s (had to force myself to eat and drink water- couldn’t stomach any more orange juice). And then I slept for most of the day, only snacking a little here and there when I wasn’t feeling nauseated. I basically snacked on bread sticks, and had chicken soup with a hot dog (no bun) for supper. Drank lots of water, but its still so bad that I’m sick TODAY…. Ive got a bad headache, stomach ache, and I feel dizzy and light headed.

I stepped on the scale this morning and, no surprise- 220.4. Lots of water retention, plus, I’m sure, actual weight gained… I’m so ashamed of myself. And I was doing so well too!

Gah. Today I’ve had a nice, healthy breakfast with a cup of tea (no coffee) and I’m having something from the salad bar for lunch. Still drinking lots of water to get rid of all the crap ingested into my system. I can only hope that I learned my lesson…

I’ll be back on later to see how everyone else’s weekend went… I’m at work right now and copy/pasting this from a word doc to make it look as if I’m doing something important…  I promise I’ll be back at lunch!

My playlist changes all the time. I usually like Great Big Sea songs (Celtic pop music, but the lyrics are motivational and the drumbeats get me moving).

Also, the song "motivation' by sum41 is pretty good...

I'll listen to anything that has a good beat to it though...

Sorry for being so late- I didn't have access to a computer at all this weekend! Not much progress- only 0.6lbs. However, Ive started incorporating weight training into my routine- I assume that I'm probably gaining some muscle weight as I do this, so I'm not too upset.

Still have two weeks to reach my goal... 2.2lbs per week... I hope it can be done!

Hey all!

Hope everyone had a great weekend! I'm super stoked right now and just wanted to share the news with everyone. I'm at 219.2!! Down from 222 last monday! So that's almost 3 lbs in a week, and about 6lbs in 2.5 weeks!

I know the weight loss will probably slow down somewhat- most of the loss is water weight, and I know that at first, people tend to lose much and then it plateaus a little. And, honestly, my body doesn't feel different at all from when I started at 225. But it still feels great to see the number decrease.

Watchme- I know you're upset about the lack of movement in the numbers. Just know that you're doing all the right things and you're a lot healthier now than you were awhile ago, even if the numbers don't show it. Just keep doing what you're doing and don't give up!

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone!

I've started doing daily mini-goals. Reason being, monthly is just too far into the future for me to think (other than saying, for example, that I'd like to lose x amt of lbs within a month). With daily goals, I can start with really small, day at a time changes, which will then (hopefully) underline the bigger, monthly weight loss that I wish to achieve. And I can tailor them every morning, depending on what my schedule will be like that day. And I'm also more conscious of what I want to achieve that day, rather than just seeing a monthly 'big picture' result, which translates into better results daily.

So far my goals have included drinking x amt of water in one day, staying under a certain calorie level, doing a certain type or amount of exercise... I really think this is a better way keeping myself motivated- by taking a day by day approach.

Reddy- You did the right thing! I myself would not have been able to say anything, but she had no right treating you like that!

Dalma- How are your knees doing?

mladdy- congrats on being an auntie! Sending healthy vibes towards the little guy...

aliceinwonderland- One cheat day like that won't kill ya. Just remember that this new healthy lifestyle is a marathon, not a sprint. As long as you have more good days than bad, then its ok to oveindulge once in awhile . That's just the way life is. Also, as you mentioned, the damage can't possibly be that bad since you had some cals saved up. I say you jump up on the scale today anyways. At worst, you're a few lbs up from water retention. You'll get to see how your body got affected, and maybe that'll motivate you to not do it again. And who knows? Maybe the scale won't move at all! Then you'll KNOW that one night of mindless drinking won't totally set you back.

Whew! What a long post! BTW- I'm in for the Labor Day Challenge. Bring it on! Picture will be in my profile later today!

Hope everyone's having a nice weekend!

Hi Everyone!

Wanted to know if there's room for one more person in this wonderful support group? I'm 5'4, 22 yrs old and (as of this morning) 221.4 lbs (down from two weeks ago at 225.8lbs). I've been overweight and yoyoing my entire life, AND I've been on CC before, lost a little bit, then fell off the wagon and gained it all back.

I'm very easily discouraged, and pretty shy, which is why my one major goal last week was to start participating on the boards (I think my problem my first time on CC last yr was that I didn't participate, got discouraged, and quit). I need a group of ppl that can kick my butt into gear. You guys seem like an awesome group!

Sweepie- 45.5 hrs of exercise? In one MONTH? I'm in awe!! I'll be lucky if I get 15hrs!!! Good for you!

Dalma- I read your post earlier, seriously, rest up. I speak from experience. I've had problems with one knee since I was 13, and (although the doctor told me to stop skiing or doing stairmaster) I ignored his advice and made it worse. So now I STILL can't ski or do stairmaster, and I have to wear an ugly (and heavy!) brace with metal stabalizers on either side, every time I exercise. And I've got early onset arthritis in that knee. So PLEASE take care of yourself!

Can I join? I've a long way to go, basically just restarted on CC last week or so after an (almost exactly to the day) 1 yr break... in which I gained back all the weight I'd lost. I need a kick in the behind.

Starting weight- 221.4 lbs

Goal Weight- 214 lbs (7.4lbs)

I'm thinking about giving it a try tonight. I don't have time to go to the gym... or a lot of time to work out at home today, and my body is craving a good, sweaty workout. So I'm going to give it a shot on my elliptical at home.

From what I've read, and from what everyone's posted, I gather that beginners should not go beyond 10 mins. I'll see how it goes tonight and let you all know.

Crispy Minis are great. 8 chips = 60 cals, so basically for 16 chips (more than enough for a snack) you 'spend' 120 cals.

I weigh every day, usually in the mornings before breakfast. Sometimes I'll weigh twice a day (mornings and before bed) because I'm obsessive compulsive. But I don't obsess overly about the number. The only time I'm worried about what's on the scale is monday mornings, because that's the weight I log once a week.

I just like keeping track because as previous posts mentioned, when the scale goes up, it motivates me that much more to either be careful of what's going in my mouth, or exercise that much harder.

My Ipod has over 3000 songs but my favs are Great Big Sea, Hawksley, Dropkick Murphies, Bosstones, Young Dubliners...

My big "motivation" songs at the moment (songs that make me push myself to finish the last few mins of my workout) are-

Straight to Hell- Great Big Sea,

Riot on Broad Street- Bosstones

Motivation- Sum41

I'll tell me ma- Young Dubliners

Thx guys! I do drink milk though- just not as much as I should... I'm not a huge fan of yogurt either, but I find DanActive tastes good (obviously, that was due to the qty of sugar).

I think I'm probably better off buying yogurt and dressing it up with fresh fruit, like pickleberry said...

Thanks for the info!

Love this thread!

Highs:

- Resisted ice cream all weekend, although 2 gallons of it are sitting in the freezer

- 80 mins of mowing the lawn (by hand, with a hand mower) = almost 800 cals burned on Sunday

- Drank a whole lot of water

Lows:

- My mum made bbq ribs with sticky sauce sunday nite- need I say more?

- Ate a single cream puff on sat.

- bummed around all day on sat. watched tv/played on the computer and read, despite the gorgeous weather
