Weight Loss losing weight and having some drinks Jun 21 2007

I have the same problem. I honestly don't remember the last time I went out to get drunk but I definitely enjoy going for drinks with my friends...and on top of that, my boyfriend and I make our own wine! So it is always around. I gave it up, then when I got to my goal weight, I eased small amounts back into my diet. For a while I was sort of pretending that it didn't have calories.....oops....only in the sense that I didn't actually count it in my daily allowance. Well, guess what? I gained about 7 pounds back over the course of 5 weeks. Yikes. It was disgusting. So now I am trying to put it into my daily allowance. Usually I will opt for a glass of wine and that has been fine. I have been doing that so far (no more than one) and I have started to lose the weight again. Someone else posted a website on here. But here is another good one:

http://www.radicalbehavior.com/beer-vs.liquor -vs.wine-which-is-better-for-weight-loss/

It just tells you what the best drink is for weight loss. I like it because it is realistic and basically says that not everyone is willing to give up drinking when they are trying to lose weight. Anyway, check it out and good luck!

Sierra, your advice is really good. The fiber thing has made a huge difference to me. And although I medically suffer from IBS, I have found that committing to a healthy life style has made a huge difference. Of course its always there but I will go for months at a time now with no flare-ups at all...to the point where I forget all about it. That is a relief because as I am sure you know if you are reading this, having IBS can consume you - you worry about going out for lunch or supper with friends, you worry about car trips or anything like that. It is awful and the anxiety definitely does make it worse.

So yeah, cliche and repetitve but low-fat, healthy and FRESH foods do make a huge difference, especially with the pain you are referring to. Easy to digest and small amounts will decrease, if not eliminate that crampy feeling.
Fitness working out in the morning... Apr 23 2007

Definitely morning. I have heard a lot of different reasons about why it is 'better'...I am not even sure if any of them are scientifically true but it definitely seems to feel better.

Also, I have found two other personal benefits to working out in the morning:

One, you are in a healthier mindset for the rest of the day. You want to eat healthy, you want to get fresh air, you want to feel good.

Two, you are not burdened by the weight of the day. I mean that physically and mentally/emotionally. If you had a really big lunch, or something, you might be dragging a bit trying to workout in the afternoon. Or if the events of the day are just racing through your mind, you might not give it your all when you're exercising.

Of course, those are personal findings and I don't expect everyone to agree. Just thought I would put them out there.
Weight Loss is the diet part the most important part of weight loss, or working out? Mar 20 2007

Yes jenmcc - you are right. Skinny does not equal fit, nor does it equal healthy!!

So I think that food is a little more important than exercise but they definitely work hand in hand. Actually, personally I find that when I exercise, that alone is motivation to eat healthier. AND - I am sure you have all noticed this, but exercising on healthy food is SO much better and so much easier than exercising on unhealthy food. Back a while ago I broke and had some french fries while I was out for supper with friends. That night I took off for my usual run and started to cramp up before the end of the driveway.....ewww...that was enough motivation for me to stay clear of the fries.

Motivation I did it! Plateau busted! Mar 14 2007

Congratulations! That is good news. I am on a bit of a plateau myself and hearing that is inspirational.

So maybe this is not accurate at all - so someone can clarify if I am getting this wrong. But I have a friend who lost 150 pounds and explained to me that part of the reason you plateau (other than your body getting used to things) is that you can't change size and shape at the same time. In other words, after you lose a certain number of pounds (depending on your size and shape) your body sort of re-distributes itself and during that time you don't actually lose pounds.

Anyway, it may be true because I have not lost any pounds in 2 and half weeks but in the past week I have gotten a lot of compliments on my weight-loss! So who knows!

For me I was walking along a street in town looking in windows as I walked by. The way the sun was, I caught my reflection really clearly in one particular window. I was shocked. I had become big. I knew I wasn't small but I didn't realize until that moment that I was big. It's all over!

Hey All!

I've been on this website for a couple months now and I am definitely interested in getting involved in this 140/130 club! I am around 145 now....sometimes more, sometimes less ;) and like many of you I am hoping to reach 130! I see that a lot of you are doing well - Congrats :)

Shamefully, I actually don't have any 'friends' on here yet so check out my profile and add me if you want to discuss. Talk to you all soon.
Vegetarian lust connected to veg or non-veg? Mar 13 2007

You know, this is funny. I never really considered it either way and I didn't have any idea that veg or non-veg could change your sex drive....BUT, I have been a vegetarian for about 6 months now (yay! best choice ever) and my sex drive...(and sex for that matter) has improved beyond words. I didn't even consider the connection until now but its there for sure.

Hey...

Really good and really filling smoothie.

1/2 cup soy milk (vanilla if you want), 1/4 cup water, banana, 1/4-1/2 cup frozen fruit or fresh fruit and add an ice cube, one tablespoon flaxseed - blend away!

You'll be full for a while and you get some of those harder to find sources of vitimins and nutrients all at the same time!

Yes, tea is amazing.

Lots of mentions of green tea on here - but has anyone tried White tea?? Because it is incredible!! A little harder to find - you probably have to go to a specialty store (I get mine at an organic food store)...but well worth the effort. You can get it softly flavoured, pear or peach is really nice. And go online and check out all the health benefits.....never ending.

If you absolutely need to mix something with your tuna, mix mustard instead of mayo - it's actually fantastic. Tuna without anything mixed in is really good as well.

Never underestimate the portobello mushroom. You can use it as the outside or the inside! (the bread - top it with something, or the inside, instead of a beef burger)

Tuna! Tuna is great for that. 60 cals for 1/2 a can (packed in water)...tons of protein. You can put it on bread or even better - mix it in with your salad
Foods what's your favorite snack? Feb 05 2007

Celery with light garden vegetable cream cheese...mini breton crackers with cream cheese...raisins are good (but watch how many you eat - easy to over portion them)...low fat yogurts....dry cereal - multi-grain cheerios or corn bran squares both work really well dry.

Good luck
